RIP Dusty "The Bearded Bassist" - Posted here as it may be his mother being a waitress at a restaurant in Memphis that Elvis would frequent that inspired him to become a musician. With Elvis and this song being one of his favorites... his music will live forever.

As a one time San Leon, TX. resident, I am saddened to hear the news that Dusty has passed on. Used to drive past Waynos Bar often. Dusty had a big mansion compound on the water, right down the street. Every now and then he'd pop in the local watering hole. It was cool driving past his place with the big "DH" on the gate out by the road. Was sad when he left for Houston, even sadder to learn he has left us forever. I've moved to Florida and just purchased tickets to see ZZ Top here in November. I was worried that his hip was too bad for him to get back on tour before then, but I didn't want to believe the news that he died. I guess when it is your time, it's your time. Happy that it happened in Texas. Dusty was a true Texan. Rest in Peace Mr. Hill, and thank you for sharing your music with all of us. Hopefully you and Elvis are comparing your versions of this song. Again, Thank you very much.

The only thing I hate about ZZ Top and their music, is that it always has to end!!!! These guys are frikkin legends. I saw them live in 1987 on the Gold Coast in Australia, with support bands Rose Tattoo and The Angels. Man what a lineup!!! More hooter in the audience than all the Cheech and Chong movies put together.

They really mastered the rhythm in their production. My friend who is a die-hard rock-N-roll fan dismisses ZZ Top as "disco rock," but this later sound is what set them apart. Also, like Aerosmith's huge 80's resurgance, to me it proved that Rock & Roll was not dead in the 80's.
It hit me hard hearing if Dustys passing he will be missed big time let's honor him by jamming out to our favorite zz top hits his legacy will live on

I Love ZZ top they got on forever we even had them on our wedding day music, then I gave my husband a great roaring send off for his funeral everyone loved it.

Don't get me wrong. ZZ did amazing work with this classic. Elvis did it in 1964. ZZ did it in 1992. In 28 years production values increased exponentially. How much of this was done in mixing and editing?

I just recently heard this absolutely scorching version of Viva Las Vegas by ZZ Top. How did I miss it? Elvis would be proud. I also loved the original song by Elvis. The disco rhythm in parts of the song really work well with the rockin' bass and guitar. I also like the Elvis character in the video.

It was a great rendition. I think Elvis would've enjoyed it. He probably told Dusty Hill after meeting him in Heaven that he and the others did a fantastic job singing the song and that he liked the actor who played his ghost in the video. What a great way to honor an icon. May both Elvis and Dusty rest in peace.
