- The Prime Minister formally apologized in the House of Commons for the Komagata Maru incident in 1914, in which hundreds of Sikh, Muslim and Hindu passengers were denied entry to Canada and forced to return to an uncertain and ultimately violent fate in India.

I had never heard of this tragedy until I took a Sikhism class at university. I'm really glad the Prime Minister apologized for this.

...and the worst.
It's nothing to do with race, it just shows how strong and noble a country like Canada is that even though it was not them who caused the consequence, they still apologized for what had happened. That's not being a "weak" that is being respectful and he isn't taking anything away from his people to do that. Remember laws, people who come to Canada work, and have to pay taxes, and contribute to the country.

This is Soooo amazing! I was volunteering on set for the Indo-Canadian
film Breakaway and the Komagata Maru topic came up and one of the actors, funny
guy Ali Hassan mentioned his friend had written a book on the Komagata Maru (Lions
of the Sea by Jesse Thind). Another actor brought the novel in for us to read during
our down time. We all loved it and are glad Trudeau did the right thing with
this official apology. Now I just read the same production company (First Take
Entertainment) bought the rights to Lions of the Sea and are making the film!
Awesome! I think Ajay Virmani also deserves kudos for taking this powerful, eye
opening novel and bringing it to the big screen!
