This is a very impressive unit. High KW output, small size, battery start and the best part 120/240V! Add dual fuel for propane and its near perfect! I see its 4800 RPM, wow! that's how they are getting high output from the small size. 4800 RPM for a small air cooled, splash lubricated engine, is high. Hopefully they put a lot of design and run hours on these during testing before releasing these for sale. I'm sure they did. Still impressive.

I like your testing set-up with the Volt, Amp, Watt, Freq, Power Factor meters, Decibel meter and the O-scope...and then you utilize the generator apps on the Bluetooth models. This is all critical info needed along with understanding the internal wiring of the receptacles to present a good video. 👍

This would do for a home emergency backup generator because it has 240v and also good for camping since it is relatively light for it's power. Good concept. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Gavin, I was running some of my generators today and the Westinghouse iGen 2200 when running at maximum load 1825 watts, it's running at 5400 RPM. I never noticed this until looking at the specs. on the side panel. I don't see how these machines will have much longevity running at such high RPM and holding only 11.8 oz of oil. What are your thoughts?

@@t.d.harris1311 I agree but most people probably won't use them enough for it to matter. All the proven Honda gX engine designs... The most common engines used all around the world.. are for 3600 RPM Max.
If you're going to use a generator everyday and depend on it there's only one kind you buy.
I think Gavin should do a run till failure test with one of these.... Loaded up to 75%... See how long it lasts. In all likelihood only a couple hundred hrs.

@@duskyman1 Agree with you 100 percent on the Honda's, live in northwest Florida it's not if a hurricane hits but when. If you still have a house standing, our average time without power is 8 to 10 days. Plan on adding a Honda to our 3 other generators. Best regards!

I'm familiar with hurricanes and being without power for 3-10 days. People out in the country can be up to a month. Also had a house in Panama City Florida... Damaged by Michael was without power for about 2 weeks. Of course it was about a week before they even let us back into the area. ...worst i ever seen. PC was basically obliterated.... 3 months before there was even a McDonald's open to get a biscuit. Even today it's still weird with all the trees gone, snapped off halfway up. My sister had a house on the water... Eye wall went over her. No damage shielded by the rise in the land behind her blocking wind. Parents house lost part of its roof.

I would say this generator performed wonderfully for the money. $1300 plus tax and you get 240 volts. It's the physical size of a unit like this that attracts people. That clean power sinewave will attract the informed. Big bang for the money. Very nice work. I would suggest to all RV folks make sure a "soft start" is installed on each of your roof top A/C systems. If you don't your foolish.

So I've been on the fence about this generator because I would really like a dual fuel...technically this could be a whole house backup generator for lights, fridge, a tv and ceiling fans but probably not much more...how to you feel about this generator overall...because right now Amazon has it for $1000 bucks.

I like it but it's not dual fuel. :(
Sportsman has an 8,750 Surge/7,000 Running Watt Dual Fuel Inverter Generator with a 240v 50 amp outlet. It's currently $1,399 at Wally World. They also have the 3,500-Watt Dual Fuel Inverter Generator with a 120v 30 amp RV outlet for $549.00.
I've been considering purchasing both of the above but I already have six generators.
I have 2 Sportsman generators, the little 1,000 watt gas and the 2,200 watt dual fuel. I like them both.

Gavin, do you have a video and parts list of the portable tracker you built. I need to make one since they are too expensive to buy one. I could greatly use the help. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work very informative.

What was the voltage and frequency at idle speed with no load? I was going to buy the Briggs and Stratton one until I saw your test that revealed the problems at idle speed. Thanks for the info. Subscribed.

  • @laoxshousebuildingtidbits7760

I finally got one and started it up for the first time today, but it shuts itself off in just about 10 seconds. No load, run position, oil full, gas full, open area. Any idea why it shuts itself off?

Try running with the choke halfway and see if that helps then run normally

@@GeneratorReviews Thanks for the reply. I tried that too but no luck. I was thinking (1) is there a screw with which I can adjust the idle speed, or (2) does it need some load to keep the speed up and not stall?

    • @laoxshousebuildingtidbits7760
      @laoxshousebuildingtidbits7760 Рік тому +2

Just a quick update on the resolution. The vendor sent us some parts - a carburetor repair kit and a inverter board with instruction videos. Based on the symptoms - auto shut off, eco switch having no effect on idle speed etc., my guess was that the inverter unit was most likely the culprit so I replaced that first, and that solved the problem. The generator is running fine and we have used it to power concrete vibrators, circular saw, compressor, etc. at a construction site without any problem. The aftersales service has been great.

Unless the temps are atleast 90° inside & outside with a load test you really don't know if a gen is going to work for your situation. This is a very realistic situation for campers getting to a campsite & using their rv.
The temps that I sense here are not that definitive for real world applications.
