Definitely one the greatest game characters, from his first entrance in the jungle, you knew he was gone be unique, his voice, his sense of humor, his love for guns, his dedication to his goal and mission, to the pain he goes through and betrayal and how it changes him. His character arc is one the best.

Big Boss truly was a hero, and still is. The World may have turned it's back on him, but he is still there for the people, soldiers or not.
He's only a reeeeal hero if you do the peacewalker run with 0 kills.

@@ThatOneElfEnjoyeroriginally mgs PW was supposed to be called MGS5:PW however due to it being on the PSP Konami decided to remove the 5 from the game however you still pretty much need to know the story of PW in order to understand GZ and TTP stories so technically speaking mgs5 is actually 3 games (PW,GZ and TTP)

The sequence of Snake saving miller while that rig is going down was gorgeous cinematography. That would look amazing in a live action movie all one tracking shot. One thing I love about MGS5 is their cut scene's are all like that
would look just as good, if not better, as a CGI film imo. Not everything needs a live action adaptation. CGI even allows voice actors to retain their roles, which is a bigger plus than "oh hey hollywood hotshot is playing this guy"
Number 1 always get me. Even as a grown man. When Big Boss asks "This is good.... Isnt it?" Sucks so much, a man whos been thru so many wars to fight the system cant even grasp .... if "THIS" is good. Such a good fkn scene.
I love how Big Boss put aside Chico in Ground Zeroes ending, he acts like a good father would.
Big Boss is the greatest character of gaming of all time, no doubt about that. His thought and his speak are so deep no one could be compared to him, could be enough thinking about his final speak in peace walker. watching the gaming industry of this era, no one will ever do better. cheers
Solid Snake is the best
I'd say solid snake is the better snake.
Big boss had a pretty irredeemable Villain arc, and Solid Snake spent his entire life undoing that Villain arc and its consequences, never faltering to the same extent.
Solid did have his lonely alcholoholic moments but he didn't upend the world to make a forever war.
Playing mgs3 and seeing what he went through, especially at the end when they play “way to fall” , how could you not feel for the guy? He’s so resilient and gifted, even his enemies respect him.
Big Boss Could’ve Killed Ocelot Twice in MGS3 and we would never know how much of a Legend he would become proving Naked Snake Big Boss is the Goat
I originally didn't expect much from Peace Walker since it was a PSP game, but that scene of rescuing Chico always gets me
Seriously for a psp game they did a fantastic job with it! It's definitely one of the best looking psp games, and probably my favorite psp game. Originally they were going to call peacewalker metal gear solid 5, but Konami didn't want a main game being on a portable device. So I consider peacewalker, ground zeroes, and the phantom pain to all be Metal Gear Solid 5 as the story does continue through all three games.

Even if I love Big Boss, Solid Snake is the greatest to me and I think he deserves the throne.
Because even knowing his limits, even knowing he's not Big Boss (like he says in MGS4 when he has to track down Naomi in chapter 2 "I'm not Big Boss" to explain that he isn't great in finding trails), he reacted differently basically to the same traumas, always sacrificing himself for a greater good, and NEVER betraying his comrades and friends for his own interest. And even though he knew he was born "inferior", he finally accomplished his mission and put an end to all the wars he was put to fight in, becoming the Biggest Boss.
Solid Snake is Big Boss' good side, his "recessive genes" after all. Not a case if the clone with Big Boss' dominant genes, Liquid Snake, was a perfect psycho killer since his childhood.
Probably Solid Snake and The Boss are the only true complete heroes in the Saga. Anyway I love all the characters.
Even Venom Snake is an amazing character.

I love how Ocelot takes every single piece of advise from snake. He got the revolver So it would fit more his hand movement he usually does, he took the gravings off and then got another pair to have more bullets and specifically highlights he has *12* bullets.
As a former soldier….I would have fought for Big Boss.
I love how snake told Eva not to shoot because ocelot is still young.
And not just gaming. Big Boss is the father of all lone wolves heroes such as James Bond, John Wick, Ethan Hunt ect...
He's not Big Boss for nothing.
It always made me wonder who was the main character of the series as a whole. Was it David or Jack/John?
Kojima started the series with David but it looks like he put more effort into building John’s Story as a whole.
That's what is great about it tbh, the series was not afraid to change spotlights once in a while

Everyone got their part and makes the thing even more rich to enjoy, tho obviously big boss' story could be crafted more carefully due to later entries being the ones trying to fix all the mess that was done
That’s because two game’s involved Solid Snake were super under the radar
Overall, I view Jack as the legend and David as the hero of the story. It was smart of Kojima to never focus too much on a singular character.
All that being said, personally I think Solid had a better line up overall. Because all Jack’s games after Snake eater were basically filler. Kojima struggled whether to make big boss go bad, or rewrite him as the true hero

I love Big Boss, but does anyone think that Kojima threw Solid Snake under the bus when he made Peace Walker and MGSV? I still think Portable Ops is canon because it was at first then Kojima reconned it.
I grew up with Solid snake. Also, venom snake grew on me big time with Phantom pain. Right now venom snake my fav
#9 if that character was Miller then his line about leaving San Hieronymo behind makes sense at the start of Peace Walker.

I can't explain how I never noticed until now, but I only just realized the symbolism in Snake finishing The Boss with a Patriot and then making peace with his final remaining son with a Patriot. That just cut deep into me.

Big Boss is cool and all, but I'd personally choose Solid Snake, Grey Fox, and Revolver Ocelot over him.

Im still impressed how good mgs3 looks for being a ps2 game. Honestly its one of the best looking ps2 games ever. Makes me excited for Metal Gear Solid 3: Delta! I wonder if theyll incorporate things that Kojima wanted to add the mgs3, but couldnt. Like full day & night cycles, actual changing weather, and I hope they make the animals cooler too! Like a hunting system to craft things with i think was also something Kojima wanted to add, but couldnt. Like for the boss fight with the end kojima wanted it to take place over the course of 2 weeks like how an actual sniper battle would be. Id also love for the remake to skull face from mgsv to be in it. Like maybe we could see a part where skull face has to clean up snakes mess in order for the mission to be a success. And maybe the whole thing is just Venom snakes memory of how hes remember it happening. As they did place all of BBs memories and missions in v through hypnogosia. Which how exactly did they do that while Venom was in the coma? And how did they get all of big bosses memories? God I just love this series for the crazy lore it has. That they incorporated real history into a fictional story just adds to the believabilty of it, and its fucking cool. Cant wait for Metal Gear Solid 3: Delta!
🚬🔥 The greatest character in the MG series is definitely Solid Snake hands-down. Solid Snake was consistently a hero fighting terrorism.
Solid Snake never recruited child soldiers,Solid Snake never had a secret base in the middle of the ocean hiding his nuclear war heads.
Solid Snake never tricked his soldiers into thinking they where his doppelganger so they could take the blame for his terrorism. Solid Snake was loyal to the end.
He completely overtook Solid Snake as my favourite and as the main Snake in the series.
In my opinion Big boss is the best character in metal gear even better than solid snake

Its amazing how the fan love of MGS3 made Big Boss in to a bigger character than Solid Snake. Snake is like The Boss both are actualy great characters and great heroes. Big Boss i a mess of a character but The Patriots made him in to a superstar. I guess that their plan work in our fandome😂

I think Big Boss is a Solid Snake reboot. After MGS2, a new character was a bad idea, so Kojima created a new Solid Snake, more 'human". A Raiden with the bad ass form of Solid. Naked Is the ultimate Snake for Kojima in this sense... before Venom, but he is the way to fuse the player with naked Snake
Jack's arc might be the one of the greatest ones, yes. David's art is kinda bland, but unlike Jack, he's the real hero of the series.

I dont think Kratos is one of the best character in gaming history,I mean in the first trilogy he was really a one dimensional character.He is an iconic character but the original Kratos was just pure rage and very difficult to sympathize,I like the Kratos we have now but I still dont think he is among the greatest gaming character of all time

Not too many characters are up for "greatest character in gaming history". You can say that about a lot of characters including big boss but he's a bit more complicated

But if we’re being honest, Kratos has only had two games of substantial development where almost every game Big Boss has been his we’ve either gotten substantial insight into him or have seen his character evolve.

I mean, Big Boss is among the greatest characters in gaming history but I don't think he is the best. Then again, I really do like Ocelot, so may be biased.
Revolver Ocelot is easily my favourite antagonist. Though I wasn't a fan of the whole Liquid possession thing, because I wanted to see Ocelot, not Liquid.

No he is not. Look at his stats in PEACE WALKER, and look at Venom's in Phantom Pain.
This is about character. Big Boss is a far more nuanced and deep character.
Lore-wise Big Boss is stronger than Venom, and also had it more difficult, Venom had a base already at the start of the Phantom Pain, when Big Boss arrived at Tselinoyarsk with only a tranq gun and a knife, and defeated the cobras, the boss, Volgin and Shagohod
Big boss is the real hero of this story and you can’t tell me any different
