Great video and tips. One tip that is missing though; Goji berries produce far more fruit when you have more than on variety planted to allow cross pollination! Back in my early years of gardening, I had a single goji berry bush for around 6 years and it never seemed to produced more than around 4-20 berries each year (some years I got more lucky than others). Then I read that they do better when they are able to cross pollinate. So I bought a second variety. The first year the newer plant didn't actually produce any fruit. They year after that, I was absolutely stunned and shocked to see both the new and orrigional plant produce easily in excess of 300 berries per plant. Well worth knowing if you are ready to get rid of your plant because of poor production like I was!
That is an awesome pointer. I thought mine were self fertile. I bought a second variety but planted it too far away yo cross pollinate. I will try some splits this year and plant them closer and check out the result.
Will it cross pollinate with its own runner plant?
What type of fertilizer do you use?
I came for wisdom on goji berry growing but my best take away is to plant mine by the chicken coop! Awesome, thank you.
Chinese workers building the railway lines in the U.S. planted goji as they went. I've got some started from cutting that I took from a particular tasty goji found near old railway.
Morris Jette My cousin living in Mississippi said she had found these near her property, also. So neat that the plants have survived on their own without needing cultivation. That’s the plant for me! Lol
can you send some cutting to me, I would like to plant them.
probably to stop them starving given the animals thdy worked for!
The young leaves or the shoots can be eaten as vegetable.

It's generous of you to present this, Dan. Thank you. This will help me in my garden.
I have goji berries in Philippines 🇵🇭 and they are giving lots of fruits, super food👏🏻 thanks for more tips.
My Taiwanese in-laws taught me to dry my own Gogi berries and camomile flowers. They make a delicious tea in colder months and remind me of summer. In Taiwan they call it “Go-ghee”, more of a ghee sound than Jee sound, and it’s a big part of Chinese medicine. My Gogi grow wonderfully in the Pacific Northwest.
Great vid, thanks for all the tips. One thing to watch out for is the tomato and tobacco hornworms. They are the larvae of a hawkmoth, and my plant was almost destroyed by only two caterpillars. I didn't realize at the time that goji is a cousin of tomatoes, potatoes and peppers.
FINALLY! Someone who uses common sense, and speaks a dadblamed language that I can understand! Great video man! Really good. Keep it simple, and stay safe
Thanks for another great video. I found out that my local nursery will have goji berry trees in September. I’m saving all of your videos so I can look at them again for good advice. Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏾
I have 6 or 7 plants in production. What I don’t eat fresh, I feed to my daughter’s chickens. My mother used to strip the leaves and make a bone soup with it. It’s bitter, but it’s sort of medicinal for us Asian folks. Don’t need to fertilize it either. It is a very tough plant with deep roots. Once established, it can go a long time without watering.
I just planted a goji bush. I'm excited! Thanks for the info about where to put them since they spread.
Thank you so much for all these helpful tips. I just bought a plant even without planning where to plant it or how to care for it.
Thanks a lot ...This is a helpfull explication . Greetings from Belgium !
Great tips, built some trellis out of leftover lattice. I had some old tie wire in the shop and used that to tie branches up. Much better now!
hi Dan I've had a goji berry plant in a pot for 2 years and nothing, this spring I put in the garden and it is enormous! and got flowers and small green fruit buds coming and I can't wait to try them fresh because I don't like the dried ones. thanks for the info video I'm in the midlands England
Really helpful, thanks! I've had some in buckets. I was told I could leave them in 5 gallon buckets!
Love the new channel, Dan! Plus the flow of your videos is excellent. Lots of information and to the point. Keep it up (:

Thank you for your knowledge, it truly has helped me grow a more full goji berry bush!
Thank you for this video, very helpful!
Thanks a lot! I’ve had it for years in a pot and was wondering where the best place was. I started backyard chickens a few months ago and I will utilize my goji for the same barrier enhancement! I just started a chicken run expansion using hog wire + poultry wire just like yours so I will add it to the exterior when I’m finished
Glad I could help!
Great video!
Thanks for the visit. Much appreciated :)
Lemon grass is great for mulching too. 😉
Thanks Dan I ordered my goji bush and this information is very helpful 🌸
Thank you for right off the bat specifying what zone they grow in. A lot of wonderful tips. Now that I know that they'll grow in my zone I will run out and buy some. Great video keep up the good work.
I thought I posted this until I saw your avatar. Same name as mine, but I go by rvnmedic6869
Much thanks for helpful goji berry tips; I'm starting to grow them this spring.
thanks a lot for so many useful tips! cheers!
Thank you. I just bought one and I’m hoping I can grow it for maybe a year or two in a pot
Great video! Thank you, I read somewhere that Goji's don't like fertilizer. And I believe that the more you pick, the more you get.
Searched Goji berry growing tips and came across your video. Very helpful. Also saw your other videos. Great job! You have my respect and I'll for sure subscribe. Keep it up!
You presented info well
Thank you for sharing
Thank you. I was hesitating to plant this one I purchased. I just need another trellis and some acreage lol. I'll sub to the other channel also.
My bushes used to lean all the way to the ground so i build a PVC cage system that gives them something to lean on. I used PVC because it was easier on the stalks than wire. Its just a simple box frame and it works awesome.
Outstanding. Succinct and relevant information.
Thanks for the video. I have 6 plants and may add more around the chicken coop I want to build. I wouldn't say Goji's are delicious but they aren't bad tasting either. Thanks for the advice.
Simple straight forward advice thanks.
great info
most excellent thanks; planting my 1st two plants today

THANK YOU. I HAD FRIEND GIVE ME SOME GOJI BERRIES. NOW I KNOW WHERE TO PLANTS.

Wow! I think im gonna plant this soon....love it this gojiberry😍😍😍
Thanks for the growing tips
Had mine for 3 years in a 2 gallin pit. Flowered but no fruit. Didnt realize how large their root system is, will need ti repot. Thanks for the useful tips for the future. Subbed and liked :)
Very interesting and useful video. I would like to grow goji in my new, small garden, zone 8/9. Any tips for where to get organic seed and or seedlings in the UK and best way to grow for this climate? Thankyou for any advice, R.
Awesome tips man. Thanks!!!
Haha I just couldn't remember what I'd bourght from the shop. But yes it is goji. It's a real spindley looking shrub. I've got it In a container doesn't seem to be doing great, but heard tomato feed is good. And might mix in some sand for drainage.
Appreciated the pruning thoughts. Thank you.
I was thinking that the new plants that start in my yard were from berries that dropped from the plant or from birds dropping them because there does not seem to be roots attached to the main plant. The roots just go straight down and once I dig them out they do not come back again. I have been growing them for 5 years and always have lots in the freezer to have with breakfast on granola.
Very cool. Thank you very much!
Will Epsom Salt help the Goji berry plant?
Awesome video, again. Thanks a lot.
I have three different kinds of Gozi : two red-orange in color and one yellow but they don't have thorns at all. And all of them are very sweet and juicy...a bit taste of sweet tomatoes.
Ty! I wanna try to plant these!

I live in zone 6 on a ridge that gets a lot of wind. Can they take that? In the winter it's mighty cold. Should I put up something to block the wind in the winter?
Also, for free tie ups, use bread twisties. They are plastic coated with wire in them. I have used them hold up small fence on a gate to keep baby goats in and after 3 years they're still holding up great. Twist several together to get the length needed.
Gouqi berry hometown in Qinghai Province China ! My home city
Louisville Kentucky area USA, my goji berries looked dead 2 weeks ago. Now they're getting a little leaves all over them. I've been feeding them kelp fertilize . Should I put lime around them ? When's the best time for nitrogen ?
The gogi berry plant is 3 months old in full son, which I water when dry.
The stems are about 2 1/2 feet tall but, no flowers yet. I live in Houston TX. Is this normal and what can I do to speed up the process?
Can you please help.
Thanks so much for your knowledge and help.
I liked it.
Does your varieties grow thorns as well?
Really informative videos, love the other channel too, Thx.
Would putting them in 5 gal nursery pot with the bottom cut off planted in the ground prevent the runners?
Thank's Mr Dan for sharing your ideas ❣️I have 1 goji plant in ground 1 in pot and I just bought 1 more pot from Lowe's yesterday they all 5 gallons side also a small 4'' pot black goji online. Big help for me. Thank's again ❣️

Yeah, I’m in northeast Indiana, have never pruned my gojis, and realized they were hiding all my lillies, butterfly bushes and other bloomers. Ugh.... I’m such a bad plant mom. This video and a few others I just watched have enlightened me today. Had a pretty good harvest last night. Debating about using the leaves. Sounds like a plan, but not really sure how to use them. Any tips?
What state are you located in? I am going to try gojis again. I read they like full sun, but when I left them in full sun...they burned up.
I think I am going to keep them indoors this time until I have a thriving root system & then transplant them. Hopefully that gives em a better chance
I plan on using a half barrel. Will that work. If they spread they go into the pasture. Cows. Black Goji berries.
Just watched a youtube on them from Canada. The plants were twice a big as mine ever were here in Georgia.
I have a goji plant a couple of years ago ago & the fruit that grew were small , any reason for that?
Hi, my plants are showing no sign of flowering (3rd of July in UK) and the leaves look quite pale/white/dry. What does it mean? They're in pots and well watered in the saucers, Thanks.
They grow quite well in Michigan, which is zone 2 which I believe it is
Love the video ❤️
Thank you!:)
(: wow thanks for the nice tips Dan ! Always learning something new for you ! All your videos are awesome and full of GOOD advice! Thanks again man!! 🤙you should add a Mango tree ;)
Nice
great video
Dan, Which Goji variety are you growing? From what I've read, some Goji varieties taste good, while others don't.
I bought a goji berry plant last year and I have almost kill it out two times. I've kept it in a pot because I've been afraid it couldn't grow it in the ground in central Texas.
I planted it in a pit where rain water could trap during rainy season. Will the excess water damage the plant? Please reply.
Hi new sub like you style and chickens...very relaxing
Awesome. Great patch of Gojis. Did you do anything special with fertilizing to get it to produce so well or do you add fertilizer from the Chickens? I have a video that I've don'e for Growing Black Goji Berries from seed if you want to take a look. "Black Goji Berry Update"
just hit 1k likes, awesome content sir, and greetings from South America
I only had 3 leaves on my goji berry bush when I got it and within a couple months that monster was over 7 feet tall. I can't believe what I read because they're self pollinating and I literally had thousands of berries every year including the first. I don't water it no where near as much as anything else and it's in very well drained soil hooked up to the trellis I made (I have to prune it way back right before winter and have never fertilized it).
Hi... My goya bush has been growing for about 4 years. I live in Phoenix AZ. I can't seem to get any berries on them. Can I use lemon peels to add citrus to them. This year's a first for me with runners. I thought our last year killed my plant do to over 110 dregrees had killed the poor thing . I've added coffee grounds, tea bags, egg shells around the base. And have used the swamp cooler pads ( used) for mulch. Can you give me any clues? I've never eaten a berry. Would like to see what it tastes like. Thanks.
Thanks
Hi, how long do you prune the stalks from the base? TY.
My 2nd year has many berries, but it started to turn black at the end. What is my problem n what do I need to do. Please advise.
Thanks a lots for the tips. Ihave my Goji plant for more than 5 yrs. But in the Last 3 yrs. I had problems with the goji berries. the bottom of all the berries turned black, almost like a disease. could you tell me Why? Thanks.
Wow! Thank you, this is very helpful! Will the runners cross under the retaining wall to my neighbor's yard???
Thanks!
Wow, once a doc, always a doc. 👩🏻💻😁
How well do they grow in Arizona and in containers
