Bistorta officinalis - Synonyms - Persicaria bistorta, Polygonum bistorta | Common Bistort
A semi evergreen perennial, it can grow up to 1 Metre in height. It has vigorous rhizomes that help it spread up to 1 Metre. It has ovate, veined mid green leaves that can be up to 30cm in length. The flowers are carried on dense cylindrical spikes on long stalks, they are only small and pale pink in colour. It can make quite a show if planted in the right place, especially against a dark background & is a good choice for ground cover.
