I remember always watching the skate video New Blood and absolutely loved John Rattrays part back when i was just a young kid. Love this song because of Johns part. Living care free, skating with my best buds, if I could only be that boy again.
I'm amazed with the amount of mexican fans that comment on the Corals videos, they must love that folk, country cowboy, rockabilly, hill billy pirate music mix.
The Coral are brilliant and the video is so funny at the end there. They trained the tour bouncer to play in the band to help out after Bill left. He's a proper comedian just like the rest of the boys.
@@John-hn4xs I hope not, such an amazing band but for the majority of their career they remained low key. They were never marketed properly most likely because they were seen as a retro band. Still the best band since the Beatles for me, their albums are amazing, all 200 of them lol.
Funny (to me at least) story about this song. I took the album to Africa and listened to it non stop for the 3 months I was there. When I got home I found out I had malaria and ended up delirious with a fever and I couldn't get this song out of my head. It rattled around my head for 2 weeks straight as the quinine killed the malaria and I couldn't listen to it for years. 10 years to be exact. This song made come out in cold sweats. On a lighter note, I can now listen to it quite happily with fond memories of canoeing down African rivers stoned on local grass (wasn't great so had to smoke shit loads) with this album floating over the water to tribes that hadn't seen white people before. Good first impression as they go.
Bodie & Doyle The Professionals mad I was dealing keys of cocaine smoking 7 grams a day lost my dad lost the plot almost died then got arrested with 20 members of the gang all went to prison for a while, all while bingeing to this album, different life’s. Kinda wish I had your experience rather than mine, but without the malaria.
I too was laid up in an African village years ago after getting lost looking for McKenna's gold with a bunch of charity worker missionaries from Giggleswick in Yorkshire ...I too caught malaria and was getting treated by some tribesmen who up until then had never seen a white man either.....i remember hearing Pass It On drifting up the valley one day and thought the fever had really kicked in....now it all makes sense....never found out what happened to the Giggleswick missionaries though????

I was chatting to nick outside mine the other day he's cool as man! I've never met lee or Paul I like the skelky bros nice fellas would love to work with the coral
Who is the 7th person in this vid? Pretty sure The Coral were a 6 piece for the first few albums, and pretty sure I was asking myself the same question about 14 years ago when I first seen the video!
What does the rrrocckkandrrrrooool guy say at th end? I could only make out: "when yer rich and famous come and see me". The phrase before that one, what is he saying?
Depends what're sharing really. The more energetic songs seem to start in a most ethereal place then they've got you. They manipulate the atmosphere. Good to see them on their own tour. You want this 👊 ua-cam.com/video/gtp2FvbW6Ko/v-deo.html&app=desktop

Lyrics:
His family taught him right from wrong
With local tales and children's songs
Sunday school was his shelter
With his friends Joe and Walter
Now those days seem far away
An empty swing where he once played
Now Bill's grown so fat and bald
He never thought that he'd grow old
And every day when he gets the train
Looks out the window and thinks in vain
If only I could be that boy again
His sales job gets him down
Same old faces same old sounds
Heart attacks, orthopedic backs
Documents in labeled racks
His wife can't stand the sight of him
With his routine glass of gin
She makes his lunch of processed ham
And waits in for the meter man
And every day when he gets the train
Looks out the window and thinks in vain
If only I could be that boy again
If only he could be that boy again
Another day another gin
His kids don't even notice him
Something different about his face
His happy smile seems out of place
His family gathered around for tea
Eyes fixed on their new telly
Newsflash came, then it saidâ?¦
Bill McCai was just found dead
No more windows, no more trains
Hung himself out in the rain
Now he'll never be that boy again
And we say by-bye Bill McCai
