When I went to my fire stick then to developer options on my Firestick, it says apps from unknown sources on or off. It doesn’t show the apps.

I think it's done to discourage you. Just close the new page quickly and keep at it.
I had my fire stick jailbroken by a friend of a friend. It's been working great until about a month ago. Suddenly it's no longer adding the newest movies in theaters and there are some black/blank spaces where thumbnails of movies should be. I was told by the friend who jailbroke it, never to touch any of the settings or apps on my device. So is there a way for me to reset my device and start downloading apps myself? If I do, will I need to install a vpn first and how do I know which apps to install in order to get the latest movies in theaters now? P.s. I'm from Canada. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! You can change the settings and it will not mess up the 'jailbreak' done. If anything goes wrong, just set this up again.
