    Thanks Michael. Other than top and bottom, I'm usually too scared to use side because of the readjustment to the potting angle required. But now that I know that a trace won't really affect that, I'm gonna start giving left or right hand side a go. Hopefully it will get me a bit closer to my target of a 50 break (46 is my current best).

      No. On a drag shot the back spin has gone by the time the white makes contact with the object ball.
      On this shot there’s still a tiny bit of backspin on contact which will just widen the angle slightly.
      Judging this makes this shot quite difficult.

    It’s pretty much a drag shot but used over a shorter distance than you’d usually play a drag. I agree it’s easier to hit it with a bit more authority especially if you’re not as good under pressure (moi)

      You’re not the first to think this.

    Fantastic aiming and touch. 90% aiming, 9% touch, 1% cue action. How many of us would blame cue action when we miss this pot? Is it any wonder we dont improve as we keep looking to cue action to blame.

    The squeeze is interesting, I use it, feels natural to me. Been playing some table tennis, it works with that too. Maybe beginners are too tense in the first place, so need to relax their grip, before learning it?

    Thank you Michael, this is something new to me! Did not know it was possible with one cushion, now I have to try it. My solution was: bottom right and use two cushions. It is better positional play for some reds to the same middle pocket and I was always unhappy playing the type of shot you show.

    Thanks Michael - Nicely explained, but surely it is just a little drag shot !!!! Drag is exactly as you explained it - allows you to hit harder and then when the backspin wears off it is as if you hit it from there - Title should have been "Drag shots and when to use them in positional play" - It is always explained when potting a ball over the pocket the length of the table - but drag is normally used in many many shots - your example is a great one

    One thing I'd like to know is this.
    To be able to feel the exact motion and kind of feeling that is going occur in your grip in 1 seconds time, pre contact with the white, when you want a certain outcome to happen (like the feeling before you strike in the shot here with bottom + trace of right), does that take anything other than muscle memory?
    What I mean is, along with doing it a lot, is there anything else that makes it come together in the intended way?
    Is it something like looking at the point on the object ball? Or making sure of a solid contact with the white? Is it pre-shot routine?
    I feel like I'm missing something, because I feel like I'm putting the hours in, but not getting the desired outcomes. Maybe it's just not practicing enough and playing too many matches, not repeating my technique on my own enough.

    • @MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching
      @MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching  Рік тому +1

      It’s a feel thing, impossible to give a proper explanation. Snooker is more feel than people think, that’s why when people constantly change their cue action they can’t develop the feel and touch you need. You have to be able to repeat what you do.
      It’s impossible for me to give advice to you without seeing you. If Nottingham is too far I do online coaching?

    Great vid as always 👍. Would like to see reverse camera shots if poss aswell towards points of contact on c-ball. I personally struggle with hitting a lil too hard OR making those slight adjustments on the cueball when playing in and around a crowded black ball area where timing, pace and cueball control is vital.
