Peter V everything cardboard is wood. Even the tokens are screen printed. Also METAL MONEY. and nice little jade tokens. I’ll do a. Video on it soon I am sure.
The components really are nice, especially the board. Giving gifts is really odd to me but I can appreciate it being a different theme than everyone else
I think it's the card mechanism that reminds me a little of Zhanguo from What's Your Game? That's a great game. I think that might be the What's Your Game? game that Tom would like, though it's REALLY heavy.
Much better than shut up and sit down's review. Now I know what the game really is. Thanks Tom. Yes, this has Trajan written all over it, but it seems like it's a Trajan that won't suck. Cause, ya know, Trajan does....
Even the retail version has nice quality, but the KS just blows up the market for the price point it was available (similar to most games' retail price)
Kinda village like on the top track. But like the idea of gift give machanic. Seams be a situation of at least once a game you may have that awkward moment of to take lower or not
Tom you're wrong! Haha! This game is needs a seal of excellence! Not so exciting with two players but awesome with 3,4,5 and it has much interaction for a Eurogame. Gameplay is not solitaire.
Yeah, we just had a game the other day that was decided by one player changing the dice just before the last round. It adds a nice strategic element to the game.
yes, i's a race for those chase gifts, it's awesome, too bad I almost always end up with 3 matching cards I have to discard for the others to tkae LOL. It's a fantastic game.
Shlomi Ben-Naim they need to control the distribution of the videos over the course of the week while they are on the cruise. This way there is a constant stream of videos being put out rather than one large dump. It’s kind of like an annuity of content.
While the production is great and the gift giving is a cool mechanism, I HATED the destiny dice, to the point where I may not keep the game. They give big rewards of points and servants and a track bump, but in my experience it's luck that determines who can match the dice - if one player happens to have a lot of cards which are the same as the dice, they will have to play them and the next player will have the opportunity to take them and win the rewards. Adds big randomness to an otherwise tight euro, which I hate.
The dice add a level of strategy to the game - do you take an action that might earn you another servant and earn three points? You need to select the cards from the board so it isn't that random, not unlike paying to take a higher card to take a better action next round.
Also, don't forget that if you have a card in your hand that's one of the numbers in the destiny dice, you can always do an "equal or lower value" trade and discard that card straight to your pile. It's a tactic I've used a couple of times!
The game is all about weighing benefits. Most cases you will be taking a sub par option (for your strategy) in order to get a card that's valued highly that round. In my games, typically a different person will grab the cards each round, either they're focusing on it, or something different. There's an element of randomness and luck to it, sure, but the reward is a servant or two, maybe 3 points and bump on the track, good sure, but maybe by skipping it that turn you ran the river and unlocked the double servant that's going to improve every future turn instead. It doesn't seem that swingy to me. Also, it's possible to mitigate it at least once if you have enough Intrigue saved up, you can change a die face.
I agree. I have played it twice (5P and 4P) and come to the same conclusion. By far it is my least favorite aspect of the game. You can mitigate the dice to some extent but that takes a very devoted strategy to do so, which feels like more work than it's worth.
the deluxe version of this is amazing quality
Jason Wayne Speicher dude, you ain’t kidding.
I'm really happy I backed de DeLuxe Edition. One of the best looking games of all time IMHO.
What's the difference with the normal retail version?

Glad to hear! I've pre-ordered it and was hoping it was as good as it looked!
Kept seeing this in my recommended section so I finally clicked lol

Had he reviewed the DeLuxe version, it would have had the SoE, no doubt.
The ongoing kickstarter expansion brought me here, for the second time, and I'm still not sure if I should back it.
What are your reservations? Maybe I can help.
Woo! Now I just have to actually play the game.... Glad to hear it's a good worker placement w/ some interesting twists.
This should had SoE! This is really good game
I almost backed this game on Kickstarter. I played the game last weekend and was glad I didn't.
Why? What happened? D=.
Why? It is amazing.
I find dice mechanism absolutely fantastic!
Agreed, loooove it.

I do not believe you can turn in sets of Jade. You get +2 VP per jade above 5.
why is this posted today? this video was uploaded last week.

It should have been called "Guanxi: The Game of Ancient Chinese Corruption." ;-p
Is it the retail or KS version in this video?
This is the retail version, still looks like great quality.
That's the retail one. The DeLuxe versions has all of it's components upgrades, and is a thing of beauty! I'm really glad I backed it.
I don't know, this seems confusing to me. lol
I'm having a deja vu.
tom i saw you without a hat, did you lose a bet :D
I’m gaga for Gugong.
The Dice Toner. That what your graffiti looks like.

@@andrewv3515 I know that's the theory, but in my experience, it's just random who gets the most opportunities to win the prize each round.
