Baofeng uv5r5 using nagoya base antenna

- A video of my setup today with the tarpaulin on cwmaman mountain, using a baofeng uv5r5/external speaker mic/5 meters of rg8x coax/and a nagoya nl770h base antenna! hit plenty of repeaters, and i also worked matt (g7uuc) in fishponds bristol.
Had the same setup built onto a rucksack frame , man-portable. Radio was good , antenna seemed to pull in some decent signals with lots of stations being heard out to 20 miles+ from top of local hills. One negative on the antenna - IT ISNT THE STURDIEST , and detached from the bottom coil section and finally snapping. ) was my own fault , forgot to fold antenna down backwards whilst tabbing through pine forests...if looked after it should be fine.
Eddie Cowie thats a big 10-4 goody buddy! Many thanks for the comment, 👍.
Great little film!
Fergus McClelland thanks my friend! 👍
Good video.👍🏻 .......would you say that is the best antenna for the Uv-5r or do you use different ones ?
Scott Soats thanks for the comment! The 770h and the 770r is the best youre likely to get using the baofeng models! They match these antennas perfectly, as there both chinese antennas same as the baofeng are chinese, 73.
Just getting back into all this again after 25 years so it all seems new to me LOL .....keep the vids coming 😀
What type of antenna is that, and where did you get it from ? Did you need an adapter to fit to the radio and if so where did you get that from as well ? Thanks for any info you can give me. I want to put an antenna on my truck using this same radio.
Your in luck, its a mobile antenna for 2m/70cm, its called a NAGOYA NL-770H, its 3 feet in length has a good gain, and can be screwed directly onto a magmount, (which its originally designed for!) But you can also plug it through an external ground plane kit, and even plug the antenna directly to your coax cable using an S0239 female to female adaptor! You would also need to get an SMA female to SO239 female adaptor to plug into you radio end, the adaptors and antenna can be found on amazon/ebay/aliexpress, hope this helps, and enjoy your new setup! 73 from m6stl 👍.
I have recently got into this hobby, fascinated by all this,I've got into this because I'm housebound, can you recommend an external antenna, thanks for your time.
Yeah no problem mate, I definitely recommend the antenna I'm using in this video for mobile and homebase! But for the external Homebase antenna for permanent fixture for say 2m/70cm then I would recommend a Watson w50 co-linear 👍
@@m6stl2010 Many thanks for getting back, will look into it.great channel, subscribed.
Great video loved it thanks from mw6tab thanks
Cheers mate, this was last year but a lot of fun! 73s 👍
How on earth are you using that mobile vertical without a ground plane or some type of counterpoise?
Chill dude, let me worry about that 👍
@@m6stl2010 when the radio fails you may worry?
I've bought Nagoya UT-72 antenna to pair with Baofeng UV5R, but the radio stays silent. What could be the issue? Any solution will be appreciated.
Yeah the ut-72 isnt the best by any means, upgrade to the 770-r or the 770-h and you should do well 👍
cool.
Im trying the new 8W baofeng. It's not bad.
Nice one buddy, I've got the baofeng uvb9 which is 8 watts, thanks for the comment! 73. 👍
How far did you reach with your setup? I'm KM4SPM (United States), John
Thanks for the comment buddy, i reached about 80+ miles from this location on uhf 4 watts 👍
@@m6stl2010 that is kicking for 4 watts! If I remember English slang Compliments correctly, 'Good Show' or 'Jolly Good Show'!
I hope I have this right and appropriate!
Take Care and be safe Buddy, John
Were u using a adapter for that antenna ? If so what kind ? I'm looking for a larger antenna and I know baofeng radios have diff mount type
I was using a so239 female to sma female adaptor 👍
nice mate. Looking to do the same cheers.
Fair play, it's a lot of fun! Thanks for the comment and enjoy 👍
I like your antenna
Radio Survivor guy cheers ben! 🖒
m6stl thanks for the reply .I really like your antenna and the little base well done
Radio Survivor guy ☺🖒
how the antena sir
Base antenna ? That looks like a mobile antenna to me
Yeah at the time I liked to refer to it as a base/mobile antenna, but to be politically correct you are right, it is a mobile antenna, thanks for the comment.👍
Nice Video, I have the Baofeng F8 HP, so I might have to try something like you did. I live in Wyoming. KI7BSL, 73s Now for a question, would a longer mobile antenna help? I have a 5/8th wave antenna on my bike 40.5 inches long, I am thinking about upgrading to a 7/8th wave antenna that is 62.2 inches long, and has a higher DB. Is it worth it when using a Baofeng radio?
I have a question for you it might be dumb but I just don't know. What does the '73s' after your call sign mean?
73s basically means best wishes and goodbye.
Nice one mate, hope to hear you on the bands sometime! 73.
Yes its not a stupid question 73s is best wishes 88s is love and kisses do not confuse the two lol thanks from mw6tab
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you my friend 👍
👍😆
Enjoyed watching this! Hope to make contact with you soon, I have my foundation on Friday (15/12) and will try to make contact with you at some point as soon as I learn the ropes! Greetings from a fellow Welshman (Newport)
John Burns thanks for the comment bud, im now back in bristol but i regularly monitor the 2m/70cm simplex and repeater frequencies, look forward to hearing from you! 73.
try a 19 in counter poise
19.8"
Wouldn't a ground plane be more beneficial?
You guys crazy! I got 70 miles uhf repeater in this video, and i also got near 40 miles vhf simplex! No ground plane or counter poise needed as i was close to 1400 feet asl.
m6stl; it wasn't a negative what we were saying. Your video was great. Great elevation and great contact distances. That antenna is supposed to have a ground plane to get all you can out of it. If you used a ground plane with it you would get even greater distances with even better quality. I have a slim Jim antenna. Made by N9TAX (look it up I bought it on ebay) that is a great antenna for what you're doing in this video. And it's very portable. I'm subscribing now. I like your vids.
The Truth Telling Mo-Fo ! Thanks buddy much appreciated.
Nice
Thanks 👍
Nice nonoy..
👍
Great, you are smoking Dutch Tabocco. Roken is dodelijk
Nick Reuvers thanks bud 👍
m6stl if you really like Tabacco, try to get some ‘Van Nelle Zware shag’ its the best you ever smoked, even non smoking people will love the smell of it, i smoked it for years, try it with thin paper
Drum and the white OCB Paper!
