Hi Xav. I smiled, knowingly, when you said Escallonia! Yeah rite I thought, can’t see too well on iPhone screen, but blow me it WAS !! I can’t wait to see you insinuate even an iota of movement in one of those things!!! May God richly bless you!!! 🙏✝️ ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️
YES!!!! That Escallonia absolutely needed that chop. You've taken it from a shrub to a potential bonsai. Love that Juniper. No way i'd be jinning that back branch. I think it adds great structure and it would be a shame to remove it.
I agree - you just need to be getting wire on them early sometimes. But if you don't you know there will be lots of back budding. Keep that blood pressure down...like your drink :)
Yay, the full Tony. I thought you were going to be half-hearted after the first chop, then BOOM. I have given my Escallonia a good chop this year but i need to lose one of 3 trunks and it is proving difficult to decide which one. Nice work Xavier looking forward to next year's styling.
Well - watch my video next Wednesday and you can let me know how I do. It took me three sperate attempts over 2 weeks to do that juniper video. It is just a mystery species for me for some irrational reason...very frustrating. :(
Thanks candice it is down to you that I am trying so hard to get the motivation. I work this tree on Wednesdays video so your views and advice will be most appreciated. especially as you may already have some ideas???

Thanks Gaye - for a moment i thought I was dealing with a Potentilla Maximus...but alas no :)
Well done on the olive 🫒
Not a bad olive in your climate 😀😀
Cheers Sam but as Mick Dundee would probably say (and you). "Now this is an Olive..."

The Tony chop is the way! You will have to wait for the juniper...though it is now in recovery...
Some brave pruning there. I like the juniper and looking forward to see what you make out of it.😀👍
Cheers Magnus.
Good works. Thanks.
Cheers - a bit of a savage hacking if you ask me :)
Escallonia is a great species. I'm surprised it's not used more. The trunks show age nicely and they make for some great deadwood features.

Thanks Andrew...everyone needs a Tony Chop in their bonsai toolkit😁
You are so funny 😁 Xav
There must be a problem with your volume control or you are getting distorted sound :) Thanks Deb.

Thanks Phil - I will do my best to not disappoint :)
Juniper looks like it has GREAT potential! 😍

Escallonia bud back profusely so you'll have plenty of new growth in the Spring. Potential for cutting back even more ? Nice video. 😊😊
You hit the nail on the head Guy. I see this tree being a lot shorter by the time I hit it hard again in a couple of years.
I really like the Escallonia, and how you chopped it! Had to look it up.. not native here.. and probably not zone appropriate for me. Cheers!
I had no idea what my plan was until I turned on the camera and thought of the Tony Chop method :)
Uh that juniper i would keep the back center branch and jin the rest
Thanks Anders - you will have to wait till Wednesday to see if that is what I did. :)
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat i have a feeling i dont want to see it but now i need to
@@andersnrregren9087 You may regret that decision...but at least you will get some sleep during it!
Wait what i started the video and turned my back for a few sec to get caffee and most of the tree left the video
I felt the same Anders - I had no idea i was going to do that but I trust in the Tony Chop now :)
Get in that Juniper game! I am not laughing! I can not wait to see you work then.

@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat oh I definitely have some starting ideas with that Juniper!!!!
@@Candice.BonsaiScience It's no good keeping them to yourself :)
