I don’t think that’s the right way to look at it, what he’s saying is some truth, and Oda wanted to show what someone with the same ideals as luffy could achieve if not for luffy’s moral compass. Their mentality is the same however- they both value freedom and dreams. Strangely, and purposefully, Blackbeard and Luffy are too of the most similar characters in the series at a fundamental level, of course taking away morality like I said before.

@@ex1une Uunam is not a canon character, I think. If he was canon, he would simply be on par with the likes of Roger, to have piled up so much gold. Considering the timeline, he would be from the era of Roger and would have been mentioned through out canon story alongside Shiki, Whitebeard. Shiki appeared in the non canon movie Strong world but was later confirmed in the canon story. All in all, the first movie was well done. It had great vibes of adventurous romance and a legend leaving behind a message that speaks to the heart.

One Piece...my first anime. It was an afternoon near the sea. Before that, I didnt watch any other japanese animation. It was one episode. One fuc**** episode. And now here I am. I watch a ton of anime and read a lot of manga. some are much more interesting than a simple journey in the sea, but somehow...When I heard this music...I just can't forget that One Piece exist and has a place in my heart.
Indeed nowdays i read far more Novels (Kr&Cn) rather than JP content and foremost Anime (rarely watch other than Movies these last 2 years!) Once at a time i actually forgot how WILD of a ride that was One Piece to me back in the day... I rewatched some clips such as Black Beard's speech, the AMAZING clues put in the Manga about Black Beard's origines (that legend told in the bar if you recognize it about people that can't sleep...) and heard the OSTs like this one, "The fight continues" "i'm becoming king of pirates: "Overtaken" and "Together" which actually made me tear from the sheer nostalgia but also how actually good and meaningful in the show's scenes context they are! really overlooked the fact that they are not any lesser than Bleach OSTs abundance of quality-wise and epicness to the point that they can be called Top tiers!
Btw just sharing it with you but actually my very 1st JP VA+sub Anime was actually HxH1999(then continued with 2011 which i found just randomly as i didn't know it even existed in the first place xD) Tho i don't have that kind of bound i got with One Piece and Steins;Gate by far far! (Spoilers bellow if you haven't read it yet) I enjoyed greed island much more than so-called-best-arc by bing-watchers: Chimera Ant Arc especially that the pacing is so painful and the mood hmm was not my cup of tea? welp i felt some stuff like Killua dejection and the way Gon met his dad kinda forced? as well as harmful to the 'drive' of the show that i'm not really interested into that Dark Continent arc ... This was like 9 years ago actually!
