Hi Alice - If I had a nickel for everytime one of my friends said "Sunscreens don't work for me ... blah, blah, blah". Well - I would be sitting pretty, lol (money wise). I don't know anymore - but what I do know is that Beauty of Joseon, Isntree - Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel, Skin1004 Madagascar Centella, and the Vichy Capital Soleil SPF 60 (I use this one on my body (mainly my neck and arms). These work for me and especially the Beauty of Joseon and Skin1004 (these are so good for reapplying throughout the day - I don't wear any makeup (lashes and lips, that's it!) - so reapplying sunscreen is something I actually love doing - like re-moisturizing my face all day.
Why can't I leave a normal comment? UA-cam 🙄 I actually prefer chemical sunscreens although daily (when I am petsitting) I use thicker, mineral sunscreens that were rejects when it comes to wearing under makeup and such. I have the new Purito, but it's still in its packaging because I already have too many open sunscreen bottles. 😂
Alice! Hi! Yes I actually had a girl block me because I informed her that good molecules isn’t 100% mineral and she swore that wasn’t true Even made a video referring to me as “some girl who lied about the sunscreen filter, but don’t worry I checked it’s 100% mineral” 😂🙄 Ps. All chemical filters in America burn my eyes so bad!!!
Checked with the marketing team who has no idea because they can’t even access the cosmetic formulators…so they guess. Meanwhile the cosmetic formulators are in great pain at seeing the misinformation on the very products they worked on (It’s a true story ugh)
I've been loving the goodal heartleaf sun cream lately. Some korean beauty channels recommended it as a good makeup base and yup, can confirm! I think it's the newer filters so it blends it super easy and doesn't slide around.
When my dad started chemo for cancer, I started to dive into the world of UV filters for his skin. And I found the purito orange sunscreen to be the ultimate sunscreen. It was not white on his face and was not sticking to his beard and he was happy putting it on. His super sensitive skin from chemo really appreciated it. I'm glad I'm not the only one who absolutely love this sunscreen!
This is great information, thank you! I've watched LabMuffin for a long time, but your US based perspective is important. I'm sensitive to the same filters you are, so once I found asian sunscreens I never looked back. Once in a great while I'll splurge on one of the nicer mineral sunscreens offered in-store in the US, but they're usually so expensive! Also special thanks for the Purito soft touch rec as that's been a favorite ever since you suggested it. It's not matte, but much less shiny and my skin loves it.
Ah I’m so glad to hear you enjoy it as well! Yup, that one feels like it’s pampering my skin every time I use it haha. And right there with you: there really are gorgeous mineral sunscreens, but those price tags are just so inaccessible for most people 😔
As a European I still love the Asian sunscreens beyond anything else. For summertime The Japanese ones with water/sweat proof are really really good! Nivea Japan - UV Super Water Gel is my forever champion and their newer UV Deep Protect & Care Essence + Gel are amazing as well. Rohto Mentholatum - Skin Aqua Super Moisture Barrier UV Essence and Gel are really really good, but out of Rohto's sunscreens Sunplay Sunblock is my absolute fav and the Clear Water with bluish tint and great waterproof:ness makes it so easy to use. For sensitive skin the Kiss me Mommy is unbeatable and up here in the north in the I use the 30 rated pump bottle indoors during wintertime. It is even bear shaped! How cute is that? For make up priming the Canmake - Mermaid Skin Gel UV Sunscreen SPF (Clear is my fav, but the colored versions are pretty nice too). Nothing else can be as good primer-wise. On the Korean's I looove the newer formulations! Numbuzin - No.1 Clear Filter Sun Essence, Dr. Ceuracle's - Hyal Reyouth Moist Sun and Anua -Heartleaf Silky Moisture Sun Cream are so so good, so light, so comfortable work great with or without make up. During spring and autumn I love the Haruharu WONDER - Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Sunscreen, it's texture is so unique and makes my skin feel so incredibly comfortable. Other seasonal sunscreen pick for me is the SKIN 1004 - Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum. It works almost when ever and feels comfortable and moisturizing even on my very sensitive skin. Beauty of Joseon Rice one is too heavy for me unfortunately, but the P.CALM - Water Barrier Sun Cream work great in the colder weather and since my atopic skin usually gets irritated during winter it has worked so so well. Might need to test the Purito for wintertime as well, it sounded really nice!
Thank you so much for sharing! I think i may have to pick up the bear shaped one. I thought it was cute but kind of overlooked it given its SPF. But you’re right, that’s not a bad level for winter depending haha!
Thank you so much for this video! I personally adore Korean sunscreens. Your video gave me a bunch of new ones to try out soon! I have struggled with sunscreens for decades until I discovered K-beauty. Now I exclusively use Korean skincare and sunscreens because my skin just loves it! I don't get allergic reactions anymore and very rarely struggle with skin sensitivity. My personal favorite sunscreen so far has been the Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum - it has the most beautiful texture and it has never irritated my eyes despite the lightweight formula. Whereas another cult favorite Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel has a similar texture, but it irritated my eyes so badly that I ended up only using it on my body. With sunscreens it really is trial & error to find out which ones work best for your skin & eyes.
BOJ is my usual "go to" sunscreen. However, Skin 1004 and HaruHaru are also favorites. Both the chemical and mineral sunscreens work well for me. I have dry, mature, sensitive skin with rosacea and melasma. None of these irritate my eyes. Many blessings!!!💖💖💖
Avoid the eye area and wear large sunglasses? :) This is my mom's argument for not using sunscreen too. I gave her 5 of the most gentle K beauty sunscreens and none of them work for her. Did you find any?
My eyes are the problem as well. They are sensitive to almost anything that migrates Into them . Very frustrating. I am for sure, going to try Purito, even though I have 2 new bottles of Drmtlgy. 😢
I have sensitive eyes too and get irritated by most sunscreen. I also have dry and mature skin. For me, 2 Korean ones work very well - Numbuzin Clear Filter Sun Essence, this leaves my skin so smooth and dewy but not too much. The other one is the P. Calm Water Barrier, it’s good to the eyes too. With other brands, I tried putting some setting powder on my eyelids after Iapplied the sunscreen about 10 minutes later. It helps, that is if powder does irritate your eyes.
I use a mineral sunscreen around the eyes and whatever I want on the rest of the face. Works like a charm! My eyes are very sensitive and even combo sunscreens cause burning.
I still need a sunscreen for people who are over-sensitive to textures. I'm super enjoyed by feeling something on my skin (no, I don't wear makeup) and it makes perfect sense that sunscreen stays on the skin, that's what it's supposed to do. But I just cannot stand the feeling. I will try Purito, hopefully it's better than what I tried.
Try the Milani spf bff primer. It's a primer, so it goes on very nicely. (As long as youre applying the correct amount, you will get the spf on the label.)
Mm. The Purito isn’t light feeling; it’s more nourishing (not heavy per say but not light) I’d say to try out either the j-beauty sunscreens, especially the light ones (will contain alcohol to facilitate evaporation and lead to that lighter feeling) or the newest of the new formulas, ie that house of hur sunscreen!
I like a sunstick for the eye area, I don't accidentally get in my eyes while applying. Reminds me of the moat around a castle, keeping what I used on the rest of my face from migrating to my eyes.
The P Calm is the best sunscreen I’ve ever used around my eyes, and I actually wore it to my 100 F+ hot yoga class where I sweat literal puddles. And I’ve tried over a hundred sunscreens at this point. I haven’t had a new holy grail for years and it blew me away. It also doesn’t have Tinosorb M, which means you don’t get the same particle buildup when you reapply as the day goes on. The House of Hur for me is what I call a “topper sunscreen”, which is a sunscreen that you switch to once the one you’ve used all day has reached the number of reapplications it can withstand without looking like a mess (you learn this number about individual SPFs as you use them). I don’t use it as a base layer because it makes my face tight - it’s really unmoisturizing - but I appreciate it for preventing me from having to wash my face to get on my next layer. If I wash my face more than once a day, it’s a recipe for irritation and breakouts. Numbuzin I ultimately didn’t like very much for the way it layered. It was ….um…wet-pill-y?
Agree that the Purito Daily Soft Touch makes your skin better at the end of the day. Not sure why but for that reason, it’s definitely one of my top 3 favorite sunscreens.
I never knew why sunscreens made my forearms itch for days after wearing them. I figured I was going to have to stick to foundations and moisturizers with SPF for my face and wear long sleeves and other covering clothing for the rest of me. Then I tried Korean sunscreens. Life has changed. So far I’ve used Haru Haru Wonder, Skin 1004, Hyaah, Tocobo, and A couple of others. Everything is great. Everything is great.
For an American sunscreen: brand is Apostrophe called “Screen” I didn’t mean to add it to my order so I was rather upset when I paid $27 for a sunscreen I know I’d never enjoy. But guess what?!!!! It’s so good. It doesn’t burn. It’s for acne prone skin and it’s 3 oz so the quantity is double than others.
I wore the naked Sundays sunscreen for a few days and after the 3rd day, my skin absolutely freaked out. Pretty sure it damaged my skin barrier. I had to baby my skin for quite a while after that. Applying & wearing it, it felt so thick and sticky, shiny but after taking it off my skin would be terribly dehydrated and dry. Just thought I would share my experience with it incase others are considering it- definitely patch test and perhaps just apply to half face at first ( I did patch test and do appropriate testing before but it didn’t show up of course)
Oooh shout out to Australia's Naked Sundays. We have some of the highest levels of testing of sunscreen in the world so they are incredibly reliable. Would love to see you try more: Ultra Violette, Bondi Sands, ect...
My skin and eyes are both sensitive. My skin hates anything either too dry or too greasy. Both will lead to itchy, stinging, general irritation. Sunscreen that feels like it's sliding around is a big trigger for me. In the summer I can work with Nivea Water gel, biore watery essence, and LRP anthelios mineral. They're not perfect and do aggravate as the day goes on, but they don't hurt like so many others. Niacinamide is a bad ingredient for me, so Elta MD is out. In the winter, I can add Beauty of Joseon and Jack Black sun shield. They are too greasy in summer and make me itchy. Around my eyes, I can only use Beauty of Joseon and Etude house mild airy finish. Those are the only two that don't irritate. I could write such a long list of sunscreens I've tried that didn't work out! I'm sure you all could too.
Thanks Alice. I am on my 4th tube of Naturiums Dew Glow sunscreen. For some reason it doesn’t irritate my skin even though it’s a US Organic Sunscreen. I usually cannot tolerate US sunscreen but this is working and convenient because I can get it from target.
Part 2 - lol. I have never had any luck with chemical sunscreens - I do have sensitive skin (especially around my eyes) - I never used to, something happened. Anyways - I can use chemical sunscreens on my body - but I really just don't like them and I am not a sunbather - I am always covered up, I also wear sun protective clothing quite often - I have at least 6 hoodies, a variety of pants and tops (all leisure wear) - all from Coolibar - my hat is also from Coolibar. I am covered head to toe - and there isn't a stitch of color on my body (lol) - Casper the friendly ghost. I also have from Coolibar - driving gloves and shawls. I avoid the topic of sunscreen with my friends, they do think I go overboard - but that's OK. I think (just my opinion) - I think it is worth the time and effort to find one that works for you if you are spending money on skin care - you are wasting your money if you don't. Again, my opinion. Have a lovely night Alice - as always I enjoy your content so much - makes my day! Have a lovely evening - 🌸💮🌸
Haha yes it’s so funny you mention this. I was at the pool recently in my rash guard (why would I choose a bikini when I go through all this effort with sunscreen lol). Met some nice folks and got to chatting about hobbies…go figure skincare came up and they said “ohhh that’s why you are dressed like this!!” 🤦♀️🤣 I’ll continue to try normalizing rash guards (and long sleeves/pants in the sun!?!) to the best of my ability. Hope you have a great evening too! 😊
The Isntree Onion fluid sun cream SPF is very amazing on my combo skin, dries perfectly, no eye sting since it settles himself, very fast to apply, ultra lightweight, nice filters etc... love it
Thank you for the video, perfectly documented like always. I would like to recommend the Avene Ultra Light european versión for a summer waterproof sunscreen (Uvinul A Plus, Uvinul T150,the patentented Triasorb B and Tinosorb S). I have sensitive skin and I really love this sunscreen for demanding situations like sports, stay all day out, going to the beach... Is a moist non sticky sunscreen with a little yellowish tint. For the everyday sunscreen I normally use the Korean sunscreens with Tinasorb M for the Uva1 protection that they offer. Love your channel!!❤
Yeah, I think is the best alternative for long Uva1 to mexoryl400, the La Roche Possay patented filter. I really don't like LRPS sunscreens. Is a non soluble filter, kind of a Tinasorb M. So, you would try if you have the chance. Thanks for your recommendations, I really love the new Purito daily touch sunscreen 😊
As for sunscreens that have worked for me, a person with very sensitive and reactive skin: The viral beauty of Joseon probiotic sunscreen, the Abib sunscreen drops (but they burn when they get in your eyes), the skin 1004 sunscreen, the Elta Md that you mentioned, and the DRMTLGY mineral sunscreen. The last two are tinted and therefore may not work for everybody. The Elta MD is pretty dark Initially, but it does blend out pretty well. I have medium skin tone with olive and gray undertones.
I have rosacea so my nose, cheeks and chin are *very* sensitive. I've been using the Scinic Enjoy Super Mild Sun Essence for 2 years now and I don't even bother trying new suncreams - it's cheap, it applies like a moisturiser, it doesn't sting my eyes (I just close my eyes and slather it over my eyelids) and it doesn't trigger my rosacea or my cystic acne. It's perfect for me!
I don't have a very sensitive skin but do have pretty sensitive eyes. Most of the Korean/Japanese sunscreens I've tried either make my eyes burn to the point of feeling dizzy (Isntree watery sun gel, Roundlab birch juice, Rohto Mrntholatum...) or make my skin itch (that's probably due to all the plant extracts they usually contain). The only one that has worked for me so far is the Beauty of Joseon one. Mineral sunscreens never burn my eyes. I've ended up only using the La Roche Posay UVmune line. They are amazing, never burn my eyes or cause any other discomfort. 🥰 + the protection is spectacular and they're water resistant. Wish they were available in the US.
I have sensitive skin and this is a video I didn’t know I needed. I appreciate the time you took to do the demos and show texture/white cast. I already own a few of these but I’m Oily/combo so I thought the Purito Daily Soft Touch was average, but now I feel like I need to try it again especially when my barrier is compromised. Love your content ❤
I've always had issues with sunscreen migrating into my eyes, like many others have mentioned. In my case, I suspect its a combination of which filters, as well as the staying power of the formula on my oily skin, which I am certain does contribute to the sunscreen moving into my eyes. On days I wear eyelid primer and/or blot and reapply my sunscreen, I find it is less of an issue, to no issue at all. But if I apply sunscreen only once early in the day and just leave it, I tend to have more issues. Just my anecdotal take on this for my skin type. 😅
Omg!I use Haru Haru Mineral sunscreen and I love it but now I’m not sure any more if is a100% mineral!?Never knew about boosters…so annoying and deceiving 😔
🙋🏼♀️ sensitive, dry, acne prone all the things lol it’s taken me forever to find good sunscreens. my favorite for the longest time was the isn’t tree hyaluronic acid but just recently I tried the APLB glutathione niacinamide sunscreen and it’s absolutely fabulous! I really want to try some of these though I think I’m gonna buy one tonight because the only downside to the ALBP is the fact that it’s only 40 ML Thank you so much for talking about this and your recommendations!
Just a heads up for those with facial hair like me: the sunscreens that leave a white cast will leave residue in your hair regardless of your skin tone. 😢
They have to realize human skin isn’t the color of zinc oxide. We don’t need opaque, we just need something. It’s like a car can only be stopped or 60 MPH. How about 10 MPH?! I’m fair skin too. Great video, Alice. Wearing the new Kopari today. The Caudalie 2024 release is good too-similar to Summer Fridays mineral milk.
I really don’t understand why more brands don’t have true tints in a full shade range. It’s always either no tint and a “universal” (lol) or MAYBE 3 shade options. It’s just not enough!!
Every sunscreen I've tried has made my eyes sting. The one exception is a Badger sunscreen (total ingredients: 18.75% Zinc Oxide, Sunflower Oil, Beeswax, Sunflower Vitamin E, Seabuckthorn Extract). It's also the only zinc-based sunscreen that never left my skin dried out. However, it is extremely oily, so made my skin too shiny and greasy-looking. I may try using Badger sunscreen around eyes, and different sunscreen on rest of face.
You know it was only in researching for this video that I learned what COTZ stands for 🤣 “Contains only titanium dioxide and zinc oxide” I’ve lived my whole life thinking it was someone’s Swedish last name (or something!)
My skin doesn't like zinc oxide. Many European chemical sunscreens burn my eyes. Beauty of Josean Rice SPF, Haruharu Wonder Airy SPF and Purito Soft Touch irritate the skin around my eyes. I keep testing and keep being disappointed. The only good sunscreen for me so far is Anthelios UVmune 400 from LA Roche Posay. It's so frustrating ...
For the majority of sunscreens work for me except the white pasty american ones, as they look bad on my olive skin tone and don't disappear/sink in like Korean mineral sunscreens. But I never had a Korean or Japanese sunscreen that did not work for me other than this Kose mineral sunscreen.I haven't tried that P Calm sunscreen, but I saw Tina Tanaka talk about that brand quite a bit. I find that I am ok with Asian mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide, like the Haru Haru and Torriden mineral sunscreens and also hybrid like Anessa and Allie, but living in the UK all the sunscreens here are chemical anyway, I never see mineral and the ones that are are foreign brands, and most american ones aren't approved for sale here
Yeah. The differences by country are so intense! Tbh I feel like we should have a world panel for sunscreens and simply have the best options, reviewed by the best sunscreen focused scientists, available worldwide …probably more idealism again there, but a gal can dream!
Same sensitivities to sunscreen ingredients in US. I can tolerate the offenders on my body for a use here or there but never my neck of face. The burning redness and itch :( Getting to use K beauty the last 5 years has been so awesome. It is actual fun using my sunscreen and getting to try new brands when I am about to run out
Eye sensitivity is real. I rely on eye creams and eye gels to hydrate and protect and let these products set before I apply sunscreen. Asian sunscreens are my favourite moisturizer and favourite makeup primers.
Hmm I wonder if that’s helping in my case. It’s not that I never get sunscreen in my eyes (I certainly do), but it’s overall pretty rare. I also use eye serum and/or cream most days tho!
Hello Alice I have a question to ask you About Korean luxury beauty brands was wondering why do people don’t talk about it as much as you do ? Maybe is a idea of a video to make , this is just my own 2 cent
I love P. Calm! It’s my favorite. I also like Numbuzin 1. Have been using Round Lab Birch Juice Sunscreen but I will not repurchase. Not as elegant as the other two and there are rumors about its SPF. ❤
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I think the rumor is truly a rumor. But because I am not as fond of Round Lab as I used to be, I use it as another reason! I’ll post if I find out more.
Thank you for the video! I wish I didn't have such a problem with sunscreens burning my eyeballs. I've had that happen with every single chemical sunscreen I've tried, including ones that only contain the newer filters... 🙁 And it hasn't happened with any mineral sunscreens. I wish I could use chemical sunscreens, but alas... I also wish it was easier to find a water resistant mineral sunscreen that's pleasant to wear. 😬 I've had my eye on that Naked Sundays one, perhaps I need to try it.
Hi Alice, I don't understand what's wrong with the filters. A year ago I could use any sunscreen with any filter and I think that since I'm approaching menopause my skin reacts to many filters, even if they are advanced, because here in Chile we have access to all filters because they are not classified as drugs like in the United States, however I can use retinol, vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) and sometimes fragrances. I think that next time I will order the mini formats, to see how I react, but I have spent a lot of money buying different sunscreens and I have had to give them away to my family 😢 I hope you are very well and happy 😘
Oh gosh that sounds so frustrating!! Yes minis might be the way to go. I wonder if it’s less the filters and more some specific booster or sunscreen add in that you’re reacting to? I was surprised in researching for this video - and I didn’t get a chance to get into this here - but a lot of antioxidants and other ingredients are specifically chosen for sunscreens (bisabolol, tocopherol acetate, etc!)
I've been wanting to try the naked Sundays SPF. I've been using the missha sunscreen with the pink top. It evens my skin tone and has a matte finish. It's amazing.
Octinoxate is listed as a known hormone disrupter in many studies. Why don’t product influencers ever discuss this topic? Research studies are available.
Good morning from South Korea Friends!! Poppycock is coming back!!! I’m sad that the Kopari broke me out! It has an algae I’m sensitive too. I couldn’t figure it out at first as perimenopause is usually the culprit in all the shenanigans on my face😂
Hi can you tell me what the kolmar sunscreen is called? It's not listed in a link in your description and I can't quite zoom in the video to see the label on the tube at all! I can't find it and don't know the name of it
I love the Kiss Me Mommy, the Ipca Acne UV gel, and the Japanese Biore Skin Aqua products. I am currently trying to use up the Mary and May cushion sunscreen and, tho it doesn't irritate my skin, it leaves a very noticeable white cast on me and feels heavy. I also really liked the SCINIC Enjoy All Round Airy Sun Cushion. I have the zitsticka megashade sunscreen serum but it's meh. Its too expensive and i like the other stuff i mentioned better.
I know I've seen mineral eye sunscreens like drmtlgy, colorscience, supergoop, etc, but they aren't inexpensive. I still remember seeing cosmetic chemist Esther Olu on the Style and Beauty Doctor explaining why formulating mineral sunscreens for darker skin is difficult. I'm still hesitant to try them, lol.
Total speculation, but have you looked at the amount of alcohol in sunscreens that cause eye irritation? You mentioned thicker concentrations don't trigger it, and most alcohol heavy SPFs are very liquidy in textured. Alcohol getting into the eye could cause short term irritation and may exacerbate any light scratches which I could see being caused by some eye brushes even though I know there's no breaking of the skin.
Each time I use exact same Purito sun cream-it breaks me out🥲 I’ve received sample of Skin1004 Madagascar centella tea-trica soothing sun milk. Love it. Feels super smooth and moisturising. Actually thinking to order full product. Have you tried it yet?😉
I haven’t, I fell behind and didn’t catch up But you know what delivers tomorrow? …the new beauty of Joseon sunscreen. I bought it so fast lol, can’t wait to see how it is!! 🤯
I ordered the STYLEKOREAN BFF Glam Box, and it comes with the Numbuzin one! I’ve been developing sensitivity lately, so, I accidentally chose the best sunscreen 🤭
I have rosacea and avobenzone burns/stings and causes daily redness on my face. Cerave hydrating sheer sunscreen spf 30 bothers my face so I am reactive to other firters I haven't been able to determine. Verdio UV moisture gel also causes tingling, redness, and burning for me. Neutrogena purescreen ingisible daily mineral spf 30 is great for comuting to work. Still looking for a higher spf for weekends that is not yellow/orange for light medium and cool skin tone. Elta MD UV restore is too yellow as well as DRMTLGY mineral spf. Trying next live tinted and Naked sundays mineral spf.
Live tinted is one that looks like it shouldn’t work initially but then…does? It’s so bizarre. At least for me I do always worry about “universal” tints, for obvious reason! 👀
Loving the Skin 1004 Hyalu-Cica sunscreen followed by Paulas Choice Anti Wrinkle Defense (this is the tinted one). PC is becoming too expensive though so looking for an alternative.
Oh, I have done an allergy test panel with the dermatologist, and I was not allergic to anything (except nickel), but, I do react to so many things, including avobenzone, so I guess I am just sensitive to some things? The allergy test was a bit useless, hehe. It would be nice to have a sensitivity test standardized, because I am still guessing what I react too. Essentials oils seems to be a sure thing though.
I don’t know what is going on with Korean sunscreens but they sting my skin so bad! Even the most gentle ones! I can only tolerate French sunscreens. And the craziest thing is that mineral sunscreens give me a scary rash!!! I NEED someone to talk about reactions to mineral sunscreens. Anyway love your videos always 🤍
Saaammmee!!! I always get burning with them and I've tried so many! I recently tried the new trica skin 1004 and it didn't cause burning and was so surprised. It's a little heavy but works but my go to is kiss me mommy water resistant sunscreen
I've found the BOJ Relief Sunscreen i great for my very dry sensitive skin. It's also easy to remove. I only have to double cleanse using my very gentle cream cleanser (not even sure it need to be double cleansed but for peace of mind I do it anyway. I tried the Purito Daily Soft Tough but it pills on me. Before I wash using the Canmake Mermaid skin but found it a little drying and hard to remove.
Removal is the hard part for me, too. Well dang, I've been using a full double cleanse (oil/balm and then cleanser) with the BoJ! It is harsh double cleansing every day
OK, I put two things in my cart from this video: the Purito and the P Calm. Your videos are so helpful. I wondered if there’s any chance of finding out what it is in sunscreen that burns your eyes when you get in the pool. I have yet to find one that doesn’t burn like crazy when it gets in my eyes when I swim.
Yeah I still haven’t gotten to the bottom of it. I have cried quite a few different sunscreens into my eyes (sigh. we all get it tho right lol) - and it doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s mineral/chemical, it all hurts. But the thicker formulas seem less likely to end up in them?
also when people talk about eye stinging, are they referring to inside the eye or the skin around the eye? i find that specifically my upper eyelids are prone to irritation even from sunscreens that don't bother the rest of my face
Why my eye stings every time I put the iunik centella calming daily sunscreen and the BOJ Ginseng moist sun serum? Does it sting Ur eye Alice? I know u like both of this sunscreen. I really want to love them but it really stings my eye do uhave any recommendation for use so it doesn't sting? Much thankx
I'm embarrassed to admit how old I was when I understood that white cast from sunscreen wasn't due to user error. I'm pretty much the color of copy paper so I didn't notice whiteness once my sunscreen was applied. I thought other people were just sort of smearing sunscreen on instead of rubbing it in.
Wait no I love embarrassing stories, the world needs more of that and less of everyone being an online expert all the time Here’s one of mine: we were watching third rock from the sun when I was in my late teens. In the middle of the show, it hit me. So I verbalized it: “oh hey it’s called third rock from the sun; like planet earth!” Everyone turned their heads slowly to me and went “…did you just figure that out”
I didn’t like the Round lab. It felt like a mineral sunscreen to me?? Which was weird. But I do have hay fever allergies. So maybe this is part of it??
There have been a fake version of round lab on Amazon that applies like chalk. Make sure you got it from reputable sources like yesstyle stylevana and Jolse.
I just got Purito because of all the rave reviews. I don't get it. I agree that it's very soothing on the skin. But it's so so shiny 😢 It's unusable for me, I don't want to leave the house looking like a disco ball.
Aw sorry to hear! I’d recommend the Kose Suncut gel for a matte finish, it’s the best I’ve tried in that aspect. I think every K-Beauty sunscreen is a bit shiny (some more than others!!)
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Yup, Haruharu is the only one I can use. It's still too shiny, but less than others and I love the way it feels on the skin. Kose is unfortunately not cruelty free, so it's not an option for me. One day maybe I'll find a sunscreen I like! Until then, it's a necessary evil :)
@@AliceintheRabbitHole agreed! I do like the one I got from Suncut. But only on hot days. Which we still have here in Illinois. It was so cheap. Two for 15$ with your link. Thanks!!!
I heard that if u get the SPF from naked Sundays actual site not Sephora the chemical filter spfs are better, they are the new filters that US can't sell yet( what they are selling at Sephora) . Honestly I love skincare but I just hate sunscreen yeah I'm sensitive and I'm still on the hunt to maybe find one I'll want to use daily
Oh interesting! Yeah the brand came to Ulta, and I did notice they are a lot more affordable at Ulta for some reason ($25 vs $34 - that’s a big difference! 🤯)
I love the skin1004 en haruharu wonder ones for my sensitive skin. The numbuzin one however has fooled me with marketing towards sensitive skin. After I applied it my skin started itching and by the time it was evening my skin even hurt. Only got worsr the next day when I foolishly tried it again. I think its the huge amount of plant extracts in that one which irritate my sensitive skin.
Thank you so much for the warning! Every sunscreen I've tried has made my eyes sting. The one exception was Badger sunscreen. It was also the only zinc-based sunscreen that never dried my skin at all. However, it was extremely oily, so made my skin far too shiny. Have you found any sunscreen that does not sting your eyes? All best wishes ^_^
@@Aurla-R2-D2 the neutrogena mineral uv tint is nice for a dewy finish and elta md uv physical is nice for a matte finish. also, most alcohol and fragrance free asian sunscreens don’t sting my eyes.
So true and honestly such a good point - it really is like re-moisturizing through the day!
.
"Birch is actually kind of a common allergen" 🤯 no wonder the round lab birch juice moisturiser was irritating my skin! Thank you!
Alice! Hi! Yes I actually had a girl block me because I informed her that good molecules isn’t 100% mineral and she swore that wasn’t true Even made a video referring to me as “some girl who lied about the sunscreen filter, but don’t worry I checked it’s 100% mineral” 😂🙄
Ps. All chemical filters in America burn my eyes so bad!!!
Checked with the marketing team who has no idea because they can’t even access the cosmetic formulators…so they guess.
Meanwhile the cosmetic formulators are in great pain at seeing the misinformation on the very products they worked on
(It’s a true story ugh)
@@AliceintheRabbitHolethis is bananas
She BLOCKED you!? About something as trivial as sunscreen ingredients!? Geez, people can be so darn ridiculous!!
I've been loving the goodal heartleaf sun cream lately. Some korean beauty channels recommended it as a good makeup base and yup, can confirm! I think it's the newer filters so it blends it super easy and doesn't slide around.
That’s a nice one too! I need to try it more as a primer, thanks for mentioning it ☺️
When my dad started chemo for cancer, I started to dive into the world of UV filters for his skin.
And right there with you: there really are gorgeous mineral sunscreens, but those price tags are just so inaccessible for most people 😔
Omg that kiss me mommy spf is one of my holy grails 😭😭😭 It’s really nice on my dry skin and it’s not ever too heavy !! Ahh love it sm
It’s such a good one!
Yep, sadly it might just be trial and error. I’m with you tho on not loving that Isntree one. I love that brand, but not that sunscreen LOL!
Thanks for sharing!!
I am so glad you like the Purito. I am waiting for it to arrive from Yesstyle. No niacinamide!
How do you like it? I just tried it and it's so so shiny :( Unusable unfortunately.
@@lukastembergerit’s good for me! I love it!
It’s my eyes that hate sunscreen.
Avoid the eye area and wear large sunglasses? :)
This is my mom's argument for not using sunscreen too. I gave her 5 of the most gentle K beauty sunscreens and none of them work for her. Did you find any?
My eyes are the problem as well. They are sensitive to almost anything that migrates
Into them .
Just keep experimenting with different sunscreens! You'll find one eventually.
That Naked Sundays sunscreen is truly NEXT LEVEL.👏🏼
I really am amazed. It’s not just “yet another mineral sunscreen” (!)
Love this!! I can't believe I missed this one😮 found it now!!!
I have the same problem
Mm. The Purito isn’t light feeling; it’s more nourishing (not heavy per say but not light)
I’d say to try out either the j-beauty sunscreens, especially the light ones (will contain alcohol to facilitate evaporation and lead to that lighter feeling) or the newest of the new formulas, ie that house of hur sunscreen!
I like a sunstick for the eye area, I don't accidentally get in my eyes while applying. Reminds me of the moat around a castle, keeping what I used on the rest of my face from migrating to my eyes.
Thank you for the video❤
I love the P Calm one! I have acne prone combination skin, and the P Calm works a treat on me.
It's such a winner!
Pretty game changing, right! Glad to hear you found what works for you 😃
For an American sunscreen: brand is Apostrophe called “Screen”
I didn’t mean to add it to my order so I was rather upset when I paid $27 for a sunscreen I know I’d never enjoy.
But guess what?!!!! It’s so good. It doesn’t burn. It’s for acne prone skin and it’s 3 oz so the quantity is double than others.
I was tempted to get it too with my prescription too. Maybe I will try it.
That’s actually a great price per oz, especially for western products!
I needed this video. Thank you.
I miss my Holy Grail Clinique CityBlock Sheer 25
R.I.P.
It’s so frustrating when an HG is discontinued! I’ll never understand it either 😞
I liked that too!
5:47 is this the same mineral sunscreen mentioned at the beginning of the video?? It looks amazing at the end love the shine and dewiness
"As somebody who leans more towards the middle ground..in everything but politics...." 😂 This was so funny to me for some reason lol!
Thank you for sharing!
I use the Green Wonder releaf sun lotion version of Purito. The finish on my skin it sits sightly better vs the orange ceramide sunscreen.
Met some nice folks and got to chatting about hobbies…go figure skincare came up and they said “ohhh that’s why you are dressed like this!!” 🤦♀️🤣
I’ll continue to try normalizing rash guards (and long sleeves/pants in the sun!?!) to the best of my ability.
Hope you have a great evening too! 😊
The Isntree Onion fluid sun cream SPF is very amazing on my combo skin, dries perfectly, no eye sting since it settles himself, very fast to apply, ultra lightweight, nice filters etc... love it
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for the rec!! I was reading about that filter but couldn’t figure out which sunscreen to find it in. Avene huh!
Thank you for sharing! I do wish the tinted options would expand their shades. Universal is…inaccurate lol
That one is a hidden gem! Only reason it didn’t make my list is that I’m out of it lol
Thank you for sharing! I wish they were in the US too. I suppose importing is an option, but whew, unlike with k and j beauty, it’s expensive!!
Yes!! Definitely try it when your skin needs a little more care. That’s when it shines imo 😊
Blooming Koco is also a good place to shop for Korean sunscreens for US buyers.
I really want to try some of these though I think I’m gonna buy one tonight because the only downside to the ALBP is the fact that it’s only 40 ML
Thank you so much for talking about this and your recommendations!
Yes!! That’s a lot of why I moved on from canmake. Nice sunscreen, so tiny. Gotta watch the price per oz!
Just a heads up for those with facial hair like me: the sunscreens that leave a white cast will leave residue in your hair regardless of your skin tone. 😢
Thank you for sharing!
This video was so needed, thank you so much Alice! 💜👌🥳
Glad it was helpful!
Loved the video!!! Might try the purito one i tried the green one but got stinging but the orange is suppose to be water resistant so thats a plus!
Thanks for sharing!!
I have been using Cotz baby sunscreen. Great information. Have a wonderful week ❌️ ⭕️
You know it was only in researching for this video that I learned what COTZ stands for 🤣
“Contains only titanium dioxide and zinc oxide”
I’ve lived my whole life thinking it was someone’s Swedish last name (or something!)
@AliceintheRabbitHole I did too!🤣
My skin doesn't like zinc oxide.
Purito daily soft touch better than the lrp anthelios invisible fluid?
The Numbuzin and P. calm are my faves
Unfortunately yhe numbuzin is no longer available on Amazon so ill have to stick with the p Calm
Tbh I feel like we should have a world panel for sunscreens and simply have the best options, reviewed by the best sunscreen focused scientists, available worldwide
…probably more idealism again there, but a gal can dream!
Same sensitivities to sunscreen ingredients in US. I can tolerate the offenders on my body for a use here or there but never my neck of face. The burning redness and itch :(
Getting to use K beauty the last 5 years has been so awesome. It is actual fun using my sunscreen and getting to try new brands when I am about to run out
Yuuup you feel me!! Finding K and J beauty sunscreens made a category that used to be best described as “frustrating” actually quite fun!!
I got that Naked Sundays sunscreen and I just made my skin look super dry after a few hours.
Oh no, so sorry to hear!
Cooking and watching. Happy Tuesday Alice ❌️⭕️
Happy Tuesday!
13:10 is this one for dry senstive skin and brown friendly??
I love P. Calm! It’s my favorite. I also like Numbuzin 1. Have been using Round Lab Birch Juice Sunscreen but I will not repurchase. Not as elegant as the other two and there are rumors about its SPF. ❤
They’re both so good!
Are there any updates on the rumors?? A source or anything?
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Thank you Alice ❤️
I've been wanting to try the naked Sundays SPF. I've been using the missha sunscreen with the pink top. It evens my skin tone and has a matte finish. It's amazing.
Thank you for sharing! Matte finishes are so hard to find
P. Calm Water Barrier Sunscreen & PC Wrinkle Defense spf are my favorites.
Thank you for sharing!
Octinoxate is listed as a known hormone disrupter in many studies. Why don’t product influencers ever discuss this topic? Research studies are available.
Good morning from South Korea
Friends!! Poppycock is coming back!!! I’m sad that the Kopari broke me out! It has an algae I’m sensitive too. I couldn’t figure it out at first as perimenopause is usually the culprit in all the shenanigans on my face😂
YESSSS, mighty tasty stuff right there
Hi can you tell me what the kolmar sunscreen is called?
It’s wild right, the western sunscreens cost more and yet are more “meh” 👀
I know I've seen mineral eye sunscreens like drmtlgy, colorscience, supergoop, etc, but they aren't inexpensive. I still remember seeing cosmetic chemist Esther Olu on the Style and Beauty Doctor explaining why formulating mineral sunscreens for darker skin is difficult. I'm still hesitant to try them, lol.
They’re so expensive!! And that’s without even getting into the category of “luxury sunscreen”, which gives me inner conflict lol
Oh see I love this theory!! Interesting, yeah that could at least be factoring in, if not the explanation. Thanks for the thoughts!
I love the Numbuzin. I have a backup because I don’t want to be without it. I want to try Purito and P Calm eventually.
It’s so fast and easy to apply, really a lovely option!
Each time I use exact same Purito sun cream-it breaks me out🥲 I’ve received sample of Skin1004 Madagascar centella tea-trica soothing sun milk. Love it. Feels super smooth and moisturising. Actually thinking to order full product. Have you tried it yet?😉
I haven’t, I fell behind and didn’t catch up
But you know what delivers tomorrow?
…the new beauty of Joseon sunscreen. I bought it so fast lol, can’t wait to see how it is!! 🤯
I ordered the STYLEKOREAN BFF Glam Box, and it comes with the Numbuzin one! I’ve been developing sensitivity lately, so, I accidentally chose the best sunscreen 🤭
Oh, great minds haha
Haven’t ordered from SK in ages but that box looks soooo good!!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole you should definitely try it… the lineup looks great!
Thank you for sharing! Hope you can find an alternative and save some $ 😁
I have (suspected) fungal acne and can only use like 2 sunscreens :(
Oh, I have done an allergy test panel with the dermatologist, and I was not allergic to anything (except nickel), but, I do react to so many things, including avobenzone, so I guess I am just sensitive to some things? The allergy test was a bit useless, hehe. It would be nice to have a sensitivity test standardized, because I am still guessing what I react too. Essentials oils seems to be a sure thing though.
YES OMIGOSH I agree so much!! Because allergy and sensitivity really do feel the same 😭
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Totally!!!!
Hmmmm does your skin do well with niacinamide?
@@AliceintheRabbitHole yes! And other actives as well
Saaammmee!!!
It is harsh double cleansing every day
Thank you for sharing!
OK, I had to laugh as soon as I posted that you went onto the next section which was eye sensitivity! 🤣🤣🤣
We need an update video of the brand Chogcongjin please🎀💗
We want every single product you have and how much you rate them🙈
Thanks for this:)
also when people talk about eye stinging, are they referring to inside the eye or the skin around the eye? i find that specifically my upper eyelids are prone to irritation even from sunscreens that don't bother the rest of my face
Oh now I’m questioning my whole life lol. I’ve always thought it meant when sunscreen ends up in the eyes!
Much thankx
So sorry to hear! No, I haven’t had issues with these, but I also haven’t cried in them? (That’s my biggest correlation ayyy lol)
Eye sting is definitely the reason I never use american chemical sunscreens on my face..
Oh, I reacted to the Numbuzin sunscreen :/ I think it is because of all the plant extracts, there is loads.
Yup, sadly the more extracts, the more risk for sensitive skin 😢
I'm embarrassed to admit how old I was when I understood that white cast from sunscreen wasn't due to user error. I'm pretty much the color of copy paper so I didn't notice whiteness once my sunscreen was applied. I thought other people were just sort of smearing sunscreen on instead of rubbing it in.
Wait no I love embarrassing stories, the world needs more of that and less of everyone being an online expert all the time
Here’s one of mine: we were watching third rock from the sun when I was in my late teens. In the middle of the show, it hit me. So I verbalized it: “oh hey it’s called third rock from the sun; like planet earth!”
Everyone turned their heads slowly to me and went “…did you just figure that out”
I would very similarly make an observation like that far too late.@@AliceintheRabbitHole
I didn’t like the Round lab. It felt like a mineral sunscreen to me??
Which was weird. But I do have hay fever allergies. So maybe this is part of it??
It absolutely could be. And yeah it feels heavy to me after using the newer formula (the pcalm/numbuzin 1 formula!)
There have been a fake version of round lab on Amazon that applies like chalk. Make sure you got it from reputable sources like yesstyle stylevana and Jolse.
@@johnsoncylee I did. Stylevanna
I miss titanium dioxide. Im trying some p20 and Japanese sunscreens. I don't even care about the white cast. Sunburns=Bad. No good horrible bad day
Sunburns are no fun at all! 😢
Always looking for an inorganic sunscreen I can use comfortably
It’s such a balancing act for formulators. Tbh I respect all the effort they have to put into them!!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole agreed! I do like the one I got from Suncut. But only on hot days. Which we still have here in Illinois. It was so cheap. Two for 15$ with your link. Thanks!!!
I’m more focused on Korean and Japanese sunscreen cause once you try it , you never want to go back to American sunscreen lol
Right!?
I am allergic to sunscreen ….. I can tolerate limited use of mineral but chemical give# me hives. Sigh
🐰
I think its the huge amount of plant extracts in that one which irritate my sensitive skin.
that’s interesting you mentioned naked sundays as non stinging bc i had to stop using it bc it stung my eyes so badly 🥲
So sorry to hear!
@@Aurla-R2-D2 the neutrogena mineral uv tint is nice for a dewy finish and elta md uv physical is nice for a matte finish. also, most alcohol and fragrance free asian sunscreens don’t sting my eyes.
@@karenwalker8682 ~ Massive thanks for the recommendations! :)
