The Toro wheel mower higher system is old, but if you put the front wheels higher than the back, you can mimic more heights. Plus, you get the great lawn stripes
I just bought an EGO 2114 at Lowe's for $400. Not self propelled. High lift Gater type blade to mulch. Came with a bag, 6 ah battery and charger. It's a beast. Mowed a humongous yard with 2' high grass. Cut on high it could do it with 2 passes. Threw the battery on my old EGO weed eater and cut in sections and then ran over it with the mower. Today I went out early to finish up. Grass still wet with dew. Large clippings on top of grass to mow. Mulched it all in one pass. I actually just wanted the battery but it was $350 so, for $50 I got the mower and the charger. Glad I did. I will have to try the bagger though and see how that goes. Mostly fescue around here in Indiana. Also, I was cutting down weeds with 3/4" stalks. No problem.
I had the toro and said the same things...I might have been a little harsher on some things but I got roasted on instagram for my take on it. SO glad I am not the only one. I have the ego now and I love it.
I haven't used the battery powered Toro, but from my experience with a Toro recycler gas FWD model, that thing was garbage, for what it cost, it wasn't great, it was worse than the Poulan Pro 21" 3 in 1 push mower I had previously...the Poulan did great mulching up grass and leaves, it was my go-to for fall cleanups....Toro, claims they have the best recycler mowers they do not, not even close, and I'd call it a fail overall. I just bought an Ego 21" self propelled model similar to the one in the video and it does pretty well, much better than the Toro, and I think it does better at mulching than my Troy Bilt TB-115 in less dense grass....what I find with the Ego is by the time it figures out you are cutting thicker/heavier grass, and ramps up the speed its either stalled the motor, or it ramps the speed up after I'm through that thick spot...so that torque sensing system is totally pointless....rather it should just have what my cordless weed-eater has, a speed selector switch....1 for low 2 for high....problem solved....although Ego seems to have one of the best battery platforms out there from what I've been hearing.
I had a Toro gas personal pace that was getting old. Sold it and went with greenworks mower after looking at ego and toro. The greenworks has been fantastic. It comes with 2 batteries and it automatically switches over when one runs out. I can complete my full quarter acre usually on one battery!
The 60v with 2 4amp batteries. I like the steel deck, the controls are nice with the battery Metter on the handle. I like that it runs on 1 of the batteries while the other can stay on the charger when needed. This way you have unlimited time with larger properties.
Also, don't see any difference in the cut quality between the greenworks and the honda or ego I had. Honestly I will never go back to a gas one as there is virtually no maintenance other than sharpening the blade.
@@Shortcuts2185 Thats the one I have! I did my first mow of the season with thick spring grass! Went through like a champ. Still had 2 bars left on the second battery when I was done. I have a little over a quarter acre. Takes an hour to mow.
I have the Toro, and if you use the hi-lift blade and not the mulching blade that comes with it, it’s a game changer. With the hi-lift blade the toro is awesome…
Performance blade is a must! They only included the eco blade so they could report a certain battery life 😅 but still, Toro Super Recycler > Ego for my money
@@MrRice67 The high lift blade acts almost like a vacuum and will suck the Grass blades vertical before cutting them it also will pick up leaves and debris better. On this model of Toro the high love blade is slightly heavier so it creates a small resistance to the motor sensor which will induce the motor to spend at the higher of the two Speed. The drawback to this is your battery will get depleted faster but if you have a smaller lawn this is not a factor. The other thing to remember is the height of your mow if you are 3 inches or higher at the high lift Blade has too much area around the skirt of the mower and will not lift up as much. It is best used at a height of 2 to 2 1/2 inches. This is from my experience your experience may differ.
Enjoyed your review. Last year I bought the Ego Select Cut XP which is a $100 more than the Ego you reviewed. It has more torque and 1,200 watt motor with higher RPM. Noticed you are using the economy blade which has a lower lift/suction and therefore less drain on the battery. If you use the mulching or the optional high lift blade, it does a great job cutting especially if you keep it on the shorter side. When I try and cut KBG at over 3" I sometimes notice the grass will start to lodge but I think that has something to do with how I've potentially over fertilized the lawn. Overall, glad I chose the Ego over the Honda since Honda has now exited the lawnmower market.
Only the Honda hrx with the 190cc and up engines are the good ones the commercial one maybe if they release it with a bigger engine, Honda nailed the blades now they need to nail the power
I have the hight end Ego. I don’t think the motor is larger but there is room for 2 battery packs with 2 5Amp batteries included and it has a variable torque motor that kicks in when the grass is thick. I also retrofitted a high lift blade that Ego sells for $49 and it made a huge difference in suction quality on those thick patches. I have a fescue/KBG mix lawn and couldn’t be happier with my setup.
With genuine EGO Select Cut Fan/Flange, shaft bold, washer and Select Cut High Lift Blade Sets with secure nuts and bolts, your Peak Power Dual Battery LM2142SP which has the same motor as the LM2156SP and the newest LM2167SP will becomes a monster mower when paired with a pair of 10.0Ah or 12.0Ah batteries...😉
I guess you mean base model being self-propelled. I just bought the EGO base model regular push mower for about $500 (just couldn't spend $800 for a push mower). I've been weening off all gas powered "stuff" for a couple years now and settled on EGO. Their equipment just works. I will say I'm not as happy with the cut as I thought I'd be and see similar results as you but it's good enough for me. So quiet too. I also LOVE the folding up and storage on battery operated items!!
Great feedback. Yes the self propelled model. I’ve gotten some feedback on the cut. Many had good luck switching to a high lift blade. You are spot on about the storage aspect. It’s awesome. Another point for battery power for sure
Thanks for this comparison. Our mower died at the end of the season last year beyond repair, so I will be in the market before spring time. Im beginning to lean Ego, my old mower clumped like that at the chute and it was a Toro gas powered. But man she ran for 12 years before the motor gave out.
I had issues with ego battery after the 3 year warranty on the 7.5 battery. I'll have to buy a new one that cost $400ish , I might as well go with honda hrn gas lawnmower. I'm only keeping the 2.5 battery ego for the trimmer and blower, but lawnmower I'll consider it if I'm you. Also, when mowing wet or tall grass, the batter sometimes pushed hard or blink yellow before it dies and restart it.
Ego actually has a lower level mower with just a single mulching blade (I believe). I found it left a lot of clippings behind. Replaced the mulching blade with a high lift blade and 1000x better. Loving the Ego mower, coming up on our second summer with it. We also have the chainsaw, trimmer, leaf blower and 2-stage snow blower.
@@Tinyteacher1111 I can’t remember the model number, but it’s the base model w/o self propel. It’s really easy to push around (weighs about 1/2 of our old gasser). Unless your yard has steep slopes..
What I do to pull the clippings bag on my Ego is to put the handle in the forward position (not all the way to the storage position). It’s super easy with the quick release lever and takes the crossbar out of play.
Welcome back buddy for my self I bought the Toro gas powered lawn mower my lawn is like 10,000 square feet and was told that a battery powered mower wouldn't work for my lawn
I have several EGO products...the mower is excellent. Does a great job, very light, easy to use, plenty of power, quiet, good quality. Everything EGO makes seems to be a first rate quality. I would HIGHLY recommend the EGO line to any home owner.
Great review I have both of them and dont have the issue with the grass here in south Florida. For the EGO I dont like take of the bag but found that if you use the lever on the handle and fold it upright its mush easier to remove the bag on the EGO. I dont get mush suction out of the EGO vs the Toro and the self propelled on the EGO its terrible vs the more natural feel of the Toro. Thanks
Actually, the EGO handle has 3 operating positions plus the “Grass Bag Attachment/Removal” position (which is folded forward for ease of attachment/removal) and finally the Locked Storage Position. A very well thought out design.
Hmmm, block the Toro "hood scoop" off with some duct tape to force it to draw air from below the edge of the deck and up. My super recycler only struggles with clippings in thick zoysia that every mower I've ever run across it does. In my fescue it's gold. But I would suspect that you are spot on in identifying the 45 degree ramp of the chute.
Beautiful lawn. Nice to see a review where the reviewer is actually cutting grass. Most reviews I've seen are people cutting weed grass. I wanted to see how electric handles actual plush grass. I have too many batteries for EGO to go to any other brand at this point. Still undecided though if I'm going to get a backup electric mower. Really only want it for cutting after it rains when the gas zero turn is a little rough on the grass.
I'll be reviewing more this summer. some upper line mowers and lower. Hoping there's been some massive upgrades. by some of the suggestions i'm hopeful. but you're spot on with battery, you have to pick a team. and it blows hahaha.
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
Interesting. I have noticed the same, but I really do prefer the cut of the Toro. I still use my Ego for the backyard and it's short person friendly LOL
I have an EGO select cut -- the 7.5ah model -- and my neighbor has a Toro electric, so we've already done this side by side. They cut about the same, but I do like the Toro's "personal pace" feature. For me, the EGO's self-propel speeds go straight from "I'm pushing it because it's too slow" to "It's taking me for a drag." Still, I think I win 'cause I got my mower for $162 on clearance. In all seriousness, that's quite a lush carpet you got there. Makes me want to redo my lawn from scratch this spring.
@@CantankerousDave I don't blame you, they are pricey! They went way up in price this year as well. I was in the market for either a reel mower or 0 turn... ended up choosing the reel mower because a 0 turn was overkill for my lawn & certain areas would be difficult to mow.
I have the ego and honestly I hate it it doesn't cut good and I've had the same problems your showing on here also!!! I'm so glad to see you post again my friend!!!
My experience with my ego is that its just ok. Doesnt seem to be enough weight in the front and ifs almost like i have to push up on the handle to keep the front wheels planted for an even cut. I think theyre probably great on perfectly flat lawns. My yard is sloped a bit and theres some bumps here and there. I generally end up mowing twice because Im just not happy with the uneven cut. Battery life is fantastic however.
I have two Toro's, one Recycler and one Super Recycler. Both have been problem free and good battery run time. Everyone i know who has the Ego mowers love them the first year, likes them the 2nd, start having problems the 3rd year. Hates them the 4th because of battery and wiring shorts and broken plastic parts.
I switched to the Ego this last year when I got a steal of a deal on a used one where the owner wanted to go back to gas. I have TTTF in Nebraska. I mow between 3-4” depending on the timeframe. One thing I’ve noticed is that if I want a cleaner cut (still not perfect), I have to bag and I have to mow slightly slower. Not a big deal as I like the convenience of being able to mow at all times of the day/night, and my yard is only 4k sqft. I do wish it it had the personal pace system as I loved it on my TimeMaster.
Last year I was able to buy that same toro electric mower for $150 on Facebook! It had no battery but I already had a 6ah battery. A seriously good find. I wonder if the shoot could be modified to not be so steep. I just run mine in mulch mode.
I'd love to see a similar comparison but for mulching capabilities. I am an owner of an Ego mower with the same 2 blade cross cut setup and most of the time I use it in mulch mode. I've found that it bogs down in thicker grass and I really have to watch out to not let my grass get too long if I want to mulch otherwise I have to cut it much higher than I really want to.
My Toro kicks into high speed reliably, not really bogging down. It seems to leave a lot of grass around the wheel tracks whenever it needs to increase the power. Either I also have to cut more frequently, or I make a second pass across the direction I originally mowed to clean up the deposits.
Your not the only reviewer who has not figured out that the the ego has the ability to easily move the handle totally out of the way to empty your clipping bag, thanks for the review.
@@pestandlawnginja inconvenient???? I find it far more inconvenient to try and reach under without moving the handles. I'm also 6ft4 so that might have something to do with it xD
I have a gas powered Toro which is only a few years old and it leaves tons of clippings also so i dont think its a issue of the battery power. Has to be in the design of the deck and blade and shoot.
Someone mentioned this in another post, but I too have the Ego push mower (not the self propelled) and it came with one blade and the stock blade it came with was terrible. The suction wasn't good at all, it left some taller areas matted down , and it left clippings on the ground as well but when I purchased a high lift blade everything improved. Another thing I noticed with it is if you cut high with the stock blade and even the high lift blade it doesn't cut as well either so basically the best setting to cut the grass is at a 3 or below and anything above that not so great, again this is the single blade push mower of theirs. The other thing that I noticed with my Ego is that even if the grass is just a bit wet, you're not only going to get clumping in the chute but you're also going to get a build up on the deck where you need to stop and scrape it all off because it can impede the blade. I'm not even saying soaking wet from a rain but more like a morning dew that is just drying up can cause it. Other things I noticed, and it could just be the design of the machine but the front end of mine feels a bit long where you can't reach tighter areas because the nose is to far out from the deck and while it's not a heavy machine, for some reason the wheels tend to matt down the grass that it goes over so that too can play a role in the uneven finish. I have tall fescue and at the #2 or #3 setting it cuts well, but usually late August/early September I like to mow low before I dethatch and then overseed and it tends to struggle on the #1 setting and burn some of the battery run time because of it. What I normally do is if say I've been cutting on the #2 setting, I would then cut it at that setting, then move it down to a #1 afterwards to make it easier. If there is a knock on their blades it's that they seem too thin and I don't know if they improved them or not with the newer models. That being said, I like the Ego that I have...it came with the 5AH battery and a quick charger and that is more than enough for the 5,000 sq. ft lawn that I do have. I also have the Ego backpack leaf blower that I got for $200 at the Home Depot when they were getting rid of their Ego products and that came with a 7.5 AH battery so i use both. I had a Lawn Boy that lasted almost 30 years (my dad got it from a Landscaper that he knew) and when it finally died I got the Ego, it's tough to compare an electric with a gas powered motor because the gas powered one was better but I do like the battery powered mower and will stick with one even when I have to replace the one I do have.
I have an older Ego, and the self propel without the blade spinning is one of my favorites too. I can plop my trimmer and blower on it and wheel them around the yard haha
Your grass is ridiculously perfect. I would put arborvitaes around the fence line of your yard. I'm leaning towards the EGO, many good reviews including customer support.
it's a good idea. arborvitaes make a great fence line. they just remind me soo much of the 70's I just cant hahaha. Ego has a decent mower. I would not go with there base line mower. Spend an extra $300-$400. it has much better suction and cut.
I’ve been cutting rye (backyard) and bermuda (front) with my ego for several years and I’m happy with the performance. Note, no long mower is perfect. My ego is maintenance free. My gas mower required more maintenance with fuel, oil and spark plug.
Appreciate the unfiltered review. I'll use your video as a reference for anyone that asks me about switching to electric as I do small engine work on the side. Thus, I'm obviously biased. The biggest piece of info missing from your review though is the cost of the freaking batteries. $250 - $350 for Toro's L324 60v 6ah to their L405 60v 7.5ah batteries!? Even if they last 4-5 years...none for me thanks.
I just used the EGO LM2156SP model for the first time today. It has three blades in the box. I chose the high lift bagging blade to use first since my grass was high in spots. It did a decent job, but I also felt like the suction was lacking as compared with the old Honda gas model. I looked over the lawn afterwards and the EGO did not pick up any small sticks. I'm talking tiny sticks, they just laid there in the grass. My old Honda gas sucked them up no problem. Overall however, I'll take the quietness and minimal service of battery over gas any day!
@@Shortcuts2185’m learning new things! I’m looking for a lawnmower that will pick up sticks, long grass, etc. I have a lawn service m, but now my grass is almost a foot tall because it’s been raining m. Ugh!
I had the Toro and replaced it with the Ego. I would not consider going back to gas. The Ego cuts extremely well. It’s quiet so hearing protection is not necessary. I now mow whenever I want without bothering my neighbors. Another plus is no gasoline to store and fool around with. The Ego is completely self propelled. I always called my Toro the Personal Push. What a stupid idea that was. Storage is very simple and I don’t have to worry about fluids leaking all over the place. Each Fall I would have my Toro serviced which cost about $120. So in a few years that pays for my Ego. I do want to say I have a small lawn so battery life has never been a problem for me. I’m able to mow my lawn about 5 times on one charge. My lawn is Kentucky Bluegrass and I mow at 3 inches. I do not bag my grass. Another plus is I have a Ego blower and the batteries are interchangeable which is really nice. As I mentioned earlier I would not go back to gas powered. Cheers!
I have an Ego and like it but we all know the downfall of battery-powered movers - needing to drop $200 to $300 on a new battery (or batteries) over 3 to 6 years, depending on how long your battery lasts. That's no small cost.
@@thomascrown5953 so far same battery after 5 years. Remember, having mine serviced annually is $120. My math tells me I’m ahead of the game. Factor in on gas, oil, or noise. It’s a no brainer for me. I actually bought one for my neighbor and he said he’d never go back to gas too. Cheers!
Well, as someone leaning towards replacing my Honda HRX 217 with a battery powered mower, you've helped me eliminate the Toro. Still not sold on the EGO however, especially at that price.
the adaptive self propelled is a game changer.. Like this is my 3rd electric mower.. I personally like how you don't have to worry about speed because it goes how fast you are walking. and Toro quality is nicer than my other electric mower.
My latest EGO mower was $429.00. Not sure where your prices are from. I went all in 3 years ago with the EGO edger, trimmer, hedge trimmer, chainsaw, snow blower, camp light, and blower. I will never go back to gas. Nice thing with EGO is once I had a few batteries I just bought "tool only" and saved a bunch of money. Never had a failure, never had to call warranty claims, and battery life is long enough to do 3 residential homes. No more filling a gas can, pull starts, changing plugs, flushing and winterizing fuel systems, air filters or carb rebuilds. The ONLY issue I have is the mower is so much lighter than a fuel - steel deck mower that doesn't have the weight to keep it planted firmly to the ground so any larger imperfections you have they wheel roll over and not through.
Thanks for sharing. the select cut is pricier when it comes with the battery. I do agree that the added weight is soo nice. It's interesting because the snow blowers from toro are still fairly heavy with the battery options.
I have an older gas powered Toro (2-3 yrs old), the design is the same with the same results. I wished I kept my John Deere self propelled push mower, it cut the grass finer and pushed more into the bag before I had to empty it, she was an old girl and needed a lot of love from the years of use and I thought it was time to replace her. The new John Deere push mowers were much more than I was looking to spend and went with the Toro.
my yard isnt that great alot off weed but ego does the job . i have 4 ego products just got the new 28inch snowblower power+ cant wait to use it own 5 batteries FYI my lawn mower is 7 years old also i change the blade on my ego for a lifting blade to fix that issue
I know Toro says that blade is good for bagging and mulch, but I believe there is a high lift blade to bag better. I’m a Toro fanboy though. Lol The place I work I seen too many Ego’s come back for me to be interested.
I agree. I put a higher lift Toro "Atomic" blade (designed for a gas engine Toro recycler) on my 60v recycler and while it did give it better lift and filled the bag better, it would still occasionally leave a trail of clippings on the right side of the mower. The raised sail on the higher lift blade also creates more air resistance so the mower would kick into high speed much more often which results in less runtime. Luckily I have extra batteries. But these Battery mowers are not the proper tool for a very thick, lush, fertilized & irrigated lawn like I have. They are also no match for my 30" Toro Timemaster which has been retrofitted with a Kohler CV224cc gas engine. That mower with the proper blades for each season creates a very manicured looking lawn. But no matter which mower you use, if you want it to look good you have to mow more often so you are not trying to cut a lot of grass off at a time.
What I love about electric mowers are how quiet they are! My neighbors don't disturb me at all while they take forever mowing their lawns. Then I fire up my Honda HRC2163HXA with one pull at first light, wake em all up and get it done in minutes, wet or dry, bag it and tag it, no BS. Hard to believe Honda is axing their mowers. If I had to cut green I'd go old-school and use a sharp and well-adjusted push reel mower. Great review of two base electric mowers BTW!
I just bought an Ego mower, probably the same or similar model as yours. I haven't tried to bag with it, because I don't bag, I either side discharge (EGO sucks at this, should have a regular side discharge setup on it rather than the out from behind crap), I also mulch....right now the grass is thick and tall due to the rains we've been getting, but in a few weeks when it warms up it'll be all mulching for me. The auto torque sensing doesn't really work very well, I wish they'd just give a 2 or 3 setting control, low, medium, high or whatever and you set it to the power level you need. The Ego is expensive, but from what I've been hearing is the battery platform is one of the best if not the best platforms on the market as far as quality. My Ego came with a 7.5AH battery, after 40 minutes of mowing I still had 1 bar out of the 5 left, so probably another 10-15 minutes of cutting. I was able to mow my front and back yard, but didn't tackle behind my shop, or the pasture area at all as the mower wouldn't handle the pasture at all LOL, that grass is really thick and tall.
I have the Ego Select Cut XP. I usually use it with the mulching blades with the mulch plug in without the bag. It’s pretty powerful but suction is not great and doesn’t do well on wet grass.
Great stuff! I am considering a battery mower because the simplicity. Pop in the battery, go, run it at the evening with lights, quiet, no need to store gasoline and change oil, and at the end I am not smelling like exhaust. I would love to see you review a greenworks 25’ mower. Larger coverage, done faster 🥳
2:25 was really expecting Rolls to mark his territory 😂 our boy is looking beefy and healthy. Glad to see the Ginja back. Good stuff my dude, looking forward to a good season this year
"Hood scoop like a 1985 Honda Civic". My first Honda 26+yrs ago was a 1985 Civic CRX Si. No hood scoop, but the hood and fenders on that very rare CRX Si were fiberglass. That was the first year Honda sold an Si model in the States. The regular Civics from that year had a steel hood and fenders. Another fun Honda fact, back in the late 1980's one of the car magazines had an Electric converted Honda CRX on the cover of the magazine doing a HUGE burnout with so much smoke from the tires the car could barely be seen through the smoke. That was with old school lead acid batteries. No shortage of torque with electric motors, but I still burn gas and kick ass
great video. Thanks for sharing. Regarding price for the EGO: 2023 price with out discount at ACE was $450 for my push model EGO w/ a 6 Ah battery. Self-propelled model adds about $125. Perhaps they have come down in price since this well made video.
Just curious as to why you would review a mower named "The Recycler", and NOT use it to recycle (mulch)? I mulch all season, then bag leaves in the fall. I get great results with Tall Turf Fescue.
The Toro has a mulching blade on it, instead of a draft blade. The combs in the blades are specifically designed, to drop clippings back onto the lawn, rather than blow upward into the volute, and into the chute. If you need more suction out of the EGO, you need to put the wide draft blade on it, rather than the run time extender blade. Doing that will greatly increase 'suction', but, at the expense of battery power. (reduced run time)
It’s an interesting topic. The toro blade is not quiet the same as a gator blade. It almost seems like some sort of a hybrid. I have a video up and coming with more details on this
I have the same toro but petrol and it mulches and catch’s very good maybe your problem with it not mulching and catching is because it is not as powerful as the petrol or maybe it is the grass types I live Australia and you live overseas and grass types is different to what I have. toro is a good brand in my opinion and it has not let me down yet
I'd have liked to see a comparison of the Ego in movement vrs the Toro Personal Pace. I love my old (gas) Toro Personal Pace as I don't have to fight with the mower if I need to backup, go up a slope, etc.
Thanks! I have tried the gas recycler and i like it. battery tech on the more expensive models seems to be better but this line was notoriously dropping clippings.
You can buy the ego for less than 750.00. I got mine in for 2021 for $550.00 after $ 50 off. I'm never going back to gas. I gave my Honda mower to a buddy. I have the EGO blower, edger, mower, chain saw, and shop light. I no long need to store gas in the garage,
awesome. there are many benefits to going battery powered. no denying it. my favorite is the space savings considering you can tilt it upwards in the shed.
The only reason I'm looking to go electric is not because I want to be eco friendly, it's because of the noise and I don't like to have to change oil and fill with gas, my gas mower. Plus I have a very small lawn. I'd rather just slap in a battery, mow and be done with it.
I do prefer the metal deck. They claim there no difference but I don’t believe it. However, the new ego is performing like a boss! It’s amazing for battery tech. I released a recent video on it
Only the Ginja would get a promotional mower and roast it the whole time 😂 agree with all points. Toro cuts better but makes a mess. Ego is better functionally.
HIgh-lift blades cause more noise and drag on the battery. It was probably designed and tested to function properly, then some bean-counters came in and made them use a quieter, gentler blade because it costs less and the mow time would be longer. Or something like that.
The front baffle under the deck on the Recycler has a "bumped-out" section that does not exist on the Super Recycler and other mowers. What is the purpose of that shape? I notice when I pull my recycler backwards that it always leaves a pile of clippings on the lawn. I also notice that the front baffle on Recycler does not extend down as far as the rest of the deck does. Is there grass shooting under the baffle in front or getting caught in the the baffle "notch" on my Recycler that is causing the dropped clippings when pulling backwards?
So we have the Toro 60v snowblower and are looking to get a battery mower since we already have the battery which is a lot of the investment cost. We have the Ryobi riding ower but need a walk behind for getting under our trees and tight areas. Have you gotten your hands on the Super Recycler to see if the design it better?
In case it helps anyone, I have had bad experience with the Stihl RMA 510 V. Plastic gears are the weak link in the chain, and once they break after a couple years, you have an expensive piece of junk on your hands instead of a mower. I am very happy with Stihl battery weed whackers, though.
Nice review. I have been looking at the Toro 60V Super Recycler. The design for the clippings to the bag is different, and it looks to be better. Worried about the Ego's plastic deck and thin blades, compared to the heavy duty design on the Toro. The SR also comes with what is called a performance blade (extra, in the box), which is supposed to have more lift than the installed blade.
@@pestandlawnginja I'm surprised you are having cut issues with the LM2130. I've cut grass that was higher than the mower(mowed to setting 3) all the way down to turfed couch (setting 1) and can not say I've seen any missed clumps like that. I did have bagging issues after a while because the mesh needed to be hosed clean to unblock it. The Toro's issue could be down to the blades. They look like gater (mulch) blades and not a true high lift. Same goes for the EGO, it's configured with the low lift blades now that I have checked against mine. Thanks for putting in the effort to make this video. keep it up
@@liamcooper6721 it’s interesting for sure. I’ve received many comments saying they personally don’t feel quality was good and just as many super happy with the cut quality
Egos next upgrade needs to be a throttle control for the blade. Like they have on the zero turn. I need max power when cutting my thick blue grass sod. Then the cut would be superior.
Thanks for the review. As a safety feature, to access the discharge bag for the EGO, tilt the handle forward (auto disengage the motor with internal switch build into the handle bar) by depressing the handle height adjustment lever and taking the bag out is super easy without any obstacles. Best cutting result on EGO Select Cut mowers regardless of bagging, mulching or discharging is using the high lift blade so it will increases the motor rpm due to the extra weight of the high lift blade and will have enough suctions to cut through higher grass with next to none clippings.
Bought a couple of egos a couple of years ago and returned both for the same quality of cut issues. Want to go electric, for storage, ease of use, but the technology just doesn’t seem to be there for their mowers. At least with ego, and I kind of wanted to go ego for their entire eco system but the mower would be the first product and can’t get there.
I think the issue with any of these battery mowers and bagging, is they don’t run the RPM as high like a gas mower would be running to get that battery life. I tried an Ego years ago on my Bermuda and it was horrible at it. Went back to my Honda till I got into reel mowing. Miss seeing your stuff man!
The new LM2167SP not only have the touch sensitive (no buttons or leavers) "Speed IQ" RWD wheels, It also provide ECO, Normal and Turbo blade speed to ramp up the minimum rpm with a 12.0Ah battery.
Thanks for the review. I'm looking at Ego but can't find any specs on their motors, W/kW, or torque, it's nowhere to be found. I emailed the company and they told me they don't know 😮😮. I'm still in shock. It's a major red flag to not even know the specs of their own machines, or the motors are so weak they are refusing to tell customers. Is it listed on the mower itself anywhere?
Ego has a new model out LM2167SP which has speed IQ, a turbo button, comes with a 12ah battery and generates 8.3 ft lbs. of torque. I think this will outperform most gas mowers.
Would much rather a handle extension for being tall as well as height, not just a height as it brings you closer to the mower. That is one thing Ozito of all brands with its telescopic handles have done extremely well for ergonomics as I'm 183cm, it works SO much better than any other mower I've tried for my back and it is CHEAPER than all of these (in Australia anyways)
No problem.
That's awesome. love hearing about it. 2' is no joke. many gas mowers choke out above 6"
I had the toro and said the same things...I might have been a little harsher on some things but I got roasted on instagram for my take on it. SO glad I am not the only one. I have the ego now and I love it.
Glad you found what works.
I can complete my full quarter acre usually on one battery!
love the feedback. thanks for the comment.
I have the same Greenworks mower and absolutely love it. Sold my Honda and EGO after using all 3.
What are some of the main differences with the hi-lift blade?
@@Dpixtion Awesome - I think I'm going to grab one. Is Amazon the best place to look?
@@MrRice67 I picked mine up from Ace hardware I found it for about $17-$20 I believe that was about two years ago..
Overall, glad I chose the Ego over the Honda since Honda has now exited the lawnmower market.
right on. thanks for the feedback and the detailed comment!
Awesome feedback. Thanks for sharing
I bought the same high lift blade and it solved my problem with small wisps of grass left uncut in the lawn

I have the Toro Super Recycler 60V. Not worried about the bag as I usually mulch anyway. Mowing TTTF, the cut quality is amazing.
But man she ran for 12 years before the motor gave out.
nice thing is tech is getting better every day.
@@thezfamily989 thanks for sharing.
What's a high lift blade, and how hard is it to change?
What mower did you get? I need recommendations from a good source. Thanks. I’m tiny and need a self propelled, I think.
@@peggylyons6898 easy to change…just a single bolt. It creates a stronger vortex to lift the grass up more.

Great tip!

I would HIGHLY recommend the EGO line to any home owner.
great feedback Mike, thanks for sharing.
Thanks
Thanks for sharing! Appreciate the feedback.
Good call. I’ll give that a go
I’ve had my original ego from when it first came out 7 or 8 or whatever years ago and still amazing👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👍🏾👍🏾

I prefer mowing
Interesting. I have noticed the same, but I really do prefer the cut of the Toro. I still use my Ego for the backyard and it's short person friendly LOL
It cuts great! Thanks for the love girlZlawn! 👊🏻
I have an EGO select cut -- the 7.5ah model -- and my neighbor has a Toro electric, so we've already done this side by side. They cut about the same, but I do like the Toro's "personal pace" feature. For me, the EGO's self-propel speeds go straight from "I'm pushing it because it's too slow" to "It's taking me for a drag."
Still, I think I win 'cause I got my mower for $162 on clearance.
In all seriousness, that's quite a lush carpet you got there. Makes me want to redo my lawn from scratch this spring.
Love the feedback. Thanks for sharing.
That rye is lush!!! 😁
Ego has the personal pace feature now :). And if you're into reel mowing and willing to splurge, Allett is using Ego's battery platform

@@sj7601 I've seen that. I invested a lot into my allet system. review coming on the allet this spring.
Thanks vinny! Great to see your comments once more
My experience with my ego is that its just ok.
Great feedback. Thanks for sharing. I will have to try mowing lawns with greater inclines
I have the EGO lawnmower, chainsaw and the weed eater and love them. All good 👍PS. If you use the high air lift blade the cut will be awesome.
i'll give it a go! thanks.
I have two Toro's, one Recycler and one Super Recycler. Both have been problem free and good battery run time. Everyone i know who has the Ego mowers love them the first year, likes them the 2nd, start having problems the 3rd year. Hates them the 4th because of battery and wiring shorts and broken plastic parts.
thanks for sharing
I switched to the Ego this last year when I got a steal of a deal on a used one where the owner wanted to go back to gas. I have TTTF in Nebraska. I mow between 3-4” depending on the timeframe. One thing I’ve noticed is that if I want a cleaner cut (still not perfect), I have to bag and I have to mow slightly slower. Not a big deal as I like the convenience of being able to mow at all times of the day/night, and my yard is only 4k sqft. I do wish it it had the personal pace system as I loved it on my TimeMaster.
Great feedback. Going slower makes sense. 👊🏻
Last year I was able to buy that same toro electric mower for $150 on Facebook! It had no battery but I already had a 6ah battery. A seriously good find.
I wonder if the shoot could be modified to not be so steep. I just run mine in mulch mode.
that's an awesome deal. as for modifying the shoot, not sure. i haven't taken the plastic off the shoot area to know. be a fun project.
Great suggestion!
My Toro kicks into high speed reliably, not really bogging down. It seems to leave a lot of grass around the wheel tracks whenever it needs to increase the power. Either I also have to cut more frequently, or I make a second pass across the direction I originally mowed to clean up the deposits.
Your not the only reviewer who has not figured out that the the ego has the ability to easily move the handle totally out of the way to empty your clipping bag, thanks for the review.
its not that I haven't figured it out. its inconvenient to have to do every time. I'm that lazy.

I have a gas powered Toro which is only a few years old and it leaves tons of clippings also so i dont think its a issue of the battery power. Has to be in the design of the deck and blade and shoot.
Interesting. Thanks for the feedback
I have a older Toro supercycler and a older lawn boy both are if not the best mowers ever made ill even mention Snapper they are awesome too!!
I had a snapper. Very first mower. Loved it. I’ve really enjoyed the gas powered toros. High quality in my book.
I had a 3-blade Snapper riding mower that was build like a tank.
Love the detailed comment. Thanks for sharing 💪
I have an older Ego, and the self propel without the blade spinning is one of my favorites too. I can plop my trimmer and blower on it and wheel them around the yard haha
great way to do it.
The batteries are costly. Thanks for watching

I'm excited to try a few other models this season. I've heard some rumors that there's some better models on the horizon.
the adaptive self propelled is a game changer.. Like this is my 3rd electric mower.. I personally like how you don't have to worry about speed because it goes how fast you are walking. and Toro quality is nicer than my other electric mower.
Agree. I wish they had a turbo button
Old school or no school 👊🏻😁
my yard isnt that great alot off weed but ego does the job . i have 4 ego products just got the new 28inch snowblower power+ cant wait to use it own 5 batteries FYI my lawn mower is 7 years old also i change the blade on my ego for a lifting blade to fix that issue
I know Toro says that blade is good for bagging and mulch, but I believe there is a high lift blade to bag better. I’m a Toro fanboy though. Lol
The place I work I seen too many Ego’s come back for me to be interested.
Good idea. I love the cut quality. Wasn’t as impressed with the ego
@@pestandlawnginja yes sir I agree, nothing cuts like a Toro !!
Wondering where you been. Welcome back! 👍
Hey, thanks! I dropped a video a week and a half ago
Thanks!!!
The battery models are getting so much better everyday. I’m hoping by next year they’ll have matched power
The Milwaukee and top of the line EGO already match or beat gassers. Party is over for gas very soon…at least for lots up to 1/2 to 3/4 acres.
I think you can get gas-powered reel mowers. Key to the old push reelers is to not let the grass get too high!
Adapt boomer. 😂
Good to know!
Great idea, see what I can do.
That's why I've been looking at battery power, all the things you listed.
2:25 was really expecting Rolls to mark his territory 😂 our boy is looking beefy and healthy. Glad to see the Ginja back. Good stuff my dude, looking forward to a good season this year
👊🏻😁 my man.
Rolls is a tank 😂
Love it! Lot of honda fans out there.
great video. Thanks for sharing. Regarding price for the EGO: 2023 price with out discount at ACE was $450 for my push model EGO w/ a 6 Ah battery. Self-propelled model adds about $125. Perhaps they have come down in price since this well made video.
That's a great price!
Just curious as to why you would review a mower named "The Recycler", and NOT use it to recycle (mulch)? I mulch all season, then bag leaves in the fall. I get great results with Tall Turf Fescue.
Great question. In my first video I showed the mulching results of this exact mower.
Please review the new Toro Stripe. It's based on the Recycler chassis with a composite deck, longer runtime, built in roller bar (for stripes).
I'll put in a request!
Just bought the strip and no roller bar, just a mat
I have both the ego and the toro 60v 22inch recycler. It's not even close the toro cuts and feels much better.
Great feedback. Thank you
The Toro has a mulching blade on it, instead of a draft blade.
I have a video up and coming with more details on this
I'll be interested to see the results!@@pestandlawnginja
I have the same toro but petrol and it mulches and catch’s very good maybe your problem with it not mulching and catching is because it is not as powerful as the petrol or maybe it is the grass types I live Australia and you live overseas and grass types is different to what I have. toro is a good brand in my opinion and it has not let me down yet
Agree. It is a good brand. This model in particular has had issues. Changing to a different blade type helps
@@pestandlawnginja I am thinking about changing it to the performance blade just to see if it will help
@@astonsellers sounds like a fun test
will you be testing the just released Toro stripe plastic mower? Also the Husqvarna le322r battery mower just came out at lowes.
few people have requested it. I'm see if i can't get a machine to try out. thanks for the request!
Great review. I don't think I'll be giving up the old gas operated Honda for a while.
happy to help!
Few points. Front door entrance ✔, Mowing higher ✔, nice review ✔now just waiting for someone to come up with a handled robo mower 🤔😂😂
😂 love the feedback
Facts about the toro bagging system. I rage quit my bag one day and threw it in the trash cuz it was basically useless
Hahaha that’s pretty bad
This mans beard is sparkling and i love it
the gift that keeps on giving hahaha
Exactly the comparo I needed to see. TY!!
Awesome 👏
I'd have liked to see a comparison of the Ego in movement vrs the Toro Personal Pace. I love my old (gas) Toro Personal Pace as I don't have to fight with the mower if I need to backup, go up a slope, etc.
No
I will write it down and see if I can get ahold of the equipment
Great review, and I like the fact you always give a very honest answer.
BTW, how would you rate the Toro 60v - vs Toro 22 Gas Recycler?
Lean the egos handle forward it makes the bag removal way easier
will do!
Is that the Barenbrug rye grass on your front lawn that you planted a while back? It looks amazing right now.
that indeed is the RPR by barenbrug!
The only reason I'm looking to go electric is not because I want to be eco friendly, it's because of the noise and I don't like to have to change oil and fill with gas, my gas mower. Plus I have a very small lawn. I'd rather just slap in a battery, mow and be done with it.
great option for that
Do you like the metal deck better and the feel over the plastic? The Ego looks so light.
🤣🤣🤣 I’ll still be attacked for pushing products
HIgh-lift blades cause more noise and drag on the battery. It was probably designed and tested to function properly, then some bean-counters came in and made them use a quieter, gentler blade because it costs less and the mow time would be longer. Or something like that.
could be. its a good thought.
The high lift blade makes a difference. Uses battery faster but does a better job.
I’ve heard that. I’ll give it a go
The front baffle under the deck on the Recycler has a "bumped-out" section that does not exist on the Super Recycler and other mowers.
No clue. 👎
Really great comparison , Im still on the fence about going electric . There's just something about the sound of a gasoline engine
technology is almost there. just have to spend $$
So we have the Toro 60v snowblower and are looking to get a battery mower since we already have the battery which is a lot of the investment cost. We have the Ryobi riding ower but need a walk behind for getting under our trees and tight areas. Have you gotten your hands on the Super Recycler to see if the design it better?
not yet. hoping soon.
In case it helps anyone, I have had bad experience with the Stihl RMA 510 V. Plastic gears are the weak link in the chain, and once they break after a couple years, you have an expensive piece of junk on your hands instead of a mower. I am very happy with Stihl battery weed whackers, though.
Right on. Thanks for sharing
Did you put the bagging blade on the EGO? That actually makes a big difference on the cut.
You know….. I don’t recall
As soon as the freaking 3 feet of snow melts into the lawn, .ay consider it HA!
Good gravy, R/R is a beast. Love from kamas

Duuùude.
Good options. The cut quality on the ego isn’t as good as I’ve shown in the video. My thoughts are it’s due to the polymer deck as you’ve suggested
@@pestandlawnginja is that in relation to the EGO or Toro? I commented on both there
It would have been nice to see which has the best mulching performance.
Love the feedback 👌 😀
Good review but was the Husky a rear wheel or front wheel drive?
The ego is rear wheel as is the Toro
Which mower is good for mulching st augustine grass
mowers that mow above 2.5" are great. most mowers do a good job with st augustine. I prefer honda and toro.
Love the dog.
Thanks Gerard!
Egos next upgrade needs to be a throttle control for the blade. Like they have on the zero turn. I need max power when cutting my thick blue grass sod. Then the cut would be superior.
totally agree!
It's the new LM2167SP model that has the ECO, Normal & Turbo settings for the minimum blades spinning rpm.
Thanks for the review. As a safety feature, to access the discharge bag for the EGO, tilt the handle forward (auto disengage the motor with internal switch build into the handle bar) by depressing the handle height adjustment lever and taking the bag out is super easy without any obstacles. Best cutting result on EGO Select Cut mowers regardless of bagging, mulching or discharging is using the high lift blade so it will increases the motor rpm due to the extra weight of the high lift blade and will have enough suctions to cut through higher grass with next to none clippings.
great feedback and detailed comment. appreciate it.
I have a high lift blade on mine and don't notice a difference
@@vinnypinatelli221 great feedback!
@@vinnypinatelli221 which model, how high are you cutting and what type of grass?
@@Jeo-What tttf the 21" select cut and 3" tall
Bought a couple of egos a couple of years ago and returned both for the same quality of cut issues. Want to go electric, for storage, ease of use, but the technology just doesn’t seem to be there for their mowers. At least with ego, and I kind of wanted to go ego for their entire eco system but the mower would be the first product and can’t get there.
Have you ever tested a Sabo mower with the TurboStar suction system?
I have not had the pleasure
I think the issue with any of these battery mowers and bagging, is they don’t run the RPM as high like a gas mower would be running to get that battery life. I tried an Ego years ago on my Bermuda and it was horrible at it. Went back to my Honda till I got into reel mowing. Miss seeing your stuff man!
love me some high RPM's ;) Its good to be back!
The new LM2167SP not only have the touch sensitive (no buttons or leavers) "Speed IQ" RWD wheels, It also provide ECO, Normal and Turbo blade speed to ramp up the minimum rpm with a 12.0Ah battery.
@@Jeo-What they all need the manual speed option
Reel mowers are best.
@@geod3589 they are, with a few pain points. mainly just the annual / every other year grinding of the reel.
Welcome back 😂
Thanks brother!
Wish I knew. Hopefully someone chimes in
Hey Ginja, what would it take to get you out to Savannah, Ga? My backyard is completely dead and gone and I need some HELP!!
Be a fun trip. Be a dream to travel and help people
@@pestandlawnginja Well brotha, you tell me where to send pictures of this backyard and I’ll send them. Would probably make for some great content!
The Toro deck is the same one as the gas mowers. Solid no plastic
@@Anonymousoldguy1 true 👍
Ego has a new model out LM2167SP which has speed IQ, a turbo button, comes with a 12ah battery and generates 8.3 ft lbs. of torque. I think this will outperform most gas mowers.
rad. I'll have to check it out.
I will stick with my 1982 SNAPPER with a 2001 7.25hp Briggs Engine swap!
Mulch, Bag, and RWD to go...
That was the first lawn more I started with as a kid 😁
Does the ego have the select cut?
That model did not
On ego you can put the bar forward to remove the bag easier
yes you can! thanks for the comment.
Has Toro come up with a solution yet? I have a 60V Toro Mower and the clipping issues are driving me insane........
No clue. I haven't had a chance to check out the newer designs
Would much rather a handle extension for being tall as well as height, not just a height as it brings you closer to the mower.
That is one thing Ozito of all brands with its telescopic handles have done extremely well for ergonomics as I'm 183cm, it works SO much better than any other mower I've tried for my back and it is CHEAPER than all of these (in Australia anyways)
awesome. love the feedback
