  • So here's why I sold my Toro 22" 60v Personal Pace Battery mower. First let me say that the mower has more pros going forth and cons, but the cons caught up to me. I feel that the suction on the mower is not very good I also feel that the mulching blade that comes with it is absolute garbage. The mower tends to leave around clumps of grass whether you are bagging or recycling. This just means you have to run back and forth across the grass to clean up everything that's left there.
Now this isn't a problem for you, you're going to love the mower. I feel this fits really well into the routine mowing category, a person who isn't really looking to have epically perfect grass, or perhaps somebody who just needs a well built electric mower without a ton of plastic parts. The battery life is just fine for mowing an average sized lawn, the recharge time is not very long on the battery, and overall it is a good machine for a person who is mowing the lawn periodically.
I ran my toro mower for three full seasons, so I would say that I've got enough experience under my belt to know how it will be for the average person. The prices have come up so much in the last couple of years and I only expect them to go further in the future. We have entered into a time where gas mowers will become obsolete within the next 5 to 10 years in the residential marketplace. My hope, is that more manufacturers will see videos like mine and make improvements to the mowers for ultimate consumer satisfaction and performance. I still have interest in seeing the milwaukee mower in action, maybe i can convince a friend to but one.
I also go over my experiences so far with my Robomower automower and I will keep everyone up-to-date as the year goes on and see if I still like it as much then as i do now.

Thank you for honest review of this mower. I got my Toro 60 volt flex in 2021 at Home depot . I also got the string trimmer ,blower and hedge trimmer . The mower came with the 6Amp battery but it would give out before I finished the yard. I purchased 7.5 and that dude was expensive ,almost as much as the mower. I agree about the bagging ,it is not so good, the gasoline mower does a much better job. I had a recycler before I moved to the coast . I was moving into a condo on the beach so I didn't any lawn care equipment. I left all my equipment in my home town and gave it to a dear friend. We sold the condo and bought a house with a yard and a driveway and scrubs. So I needed to get stuff to keep my yard up. So we decided on battery. The Toro is a Toro ,they made lawn equipment ,they don't make power tools , or chain saws or bulldozers! I have been mowing grass for way over 50 years . I have to say that machine is amazing . it cuts a nice yard .It seems to have good power and torque. The battery life is good. The other day I mowed my neighbors yard. I cut for over an hour and still had battery. Now the grass was not heavy or wet and I didn't stand around ,I mowed. Everybody is jumping on the battery band wagon ,quick frankly ,some of these companies need to stick to power tools and the like. By the way when I mowed my neighbors yard ,my Apple watch told I had walked 2.25 miles!

Thanks for the honest Toro review. My Mother-in-Law had the same mower in the gas version and it was no better. The motor spewed oil out the valve cover and the motor crapped out on her after 8 uses. She now owns a Honda. By the way, I fought Toro & Briggs for 4 months to get it warrantied. Neither of them would do anything until I submitted a review to the BBB.

How does the Toro BATTERY itself stack-up against other battery packs?
    Charge time?
Dows it maintain its functional “ceiling” of 60mins?
Can you leave it plugged into the charger without damaging the battery-life?
    Etc?

I bought the Makita XGT 40v max lawn equipment. The Makita XGT 480mm lawn mower is fantastic. Cuts long 2 foot grass without lifting deck or stalling. In Australia we get the 4x swing back blades as standard. So you get finer cuts and good lift (winged tips). Does a good job mulching and bagging particularly. Has rear side discharge, not side discharge. Can take two 8ah batteries but only needs 1 and auto switches with 2. Only negative but other mowers do the same thing. Is it will wait a few minutes (fading power) till the battery is dead before switching and not switch on power demand. manually switching the batteries will get around it.

I have the 22 inch rear drive Toro Recyler 60V. Have had it 3 years now. I cut 5 lawns a week. I have 3 batterys the 6.0 ah the mower came with and I bought an extra 7.5 ah and also bought the snow blower which came with a 7.5 ah. It takes two passes to get a nice cut. I cannot complain because 5 lawns per week for 3 seasons is like 15 years of normal use! I want a super recycler next but this one just keeps going and I cannot justify the 800 bucks but if by chance there is a season end deal I will be sure to get the super recycler as the normal only draw back is not fully filling the bag and leaving the trails of grass hence I do a double cross cut two passes.

I’m pretty certain that if more widely available from more manufacturers, cordless reel mowers would be much more suited to matching their performance goals with those of their gasoline powered counterparts than mowers of rotary design will. At the present moment only a few from very high end manufacturers are available but if mainstreamed I think that eventually the reel design will also make its way into robotic mower designs as well.

As we’ve had a heavy snow year in Utah (compared with the past four to five seasons) I bought a Toro 60V snow blower. Form, function, ease of use and power are amazing. I love not waking the dead with 2 cycle engine noise and not breathing fumes, having my clothes smell like fuel. I’ve used it four times as of mid February. That comes to a around $225 per use. I only hope the battery lasts a few years to get some value. I’ve wanted the 60V mower so I could use the battery vs sitting on the charger for months. My gas mower is the Toro Timesaver which is going on ten years old and is like brand new. No battery (which will cost around $350 to replace) will ever last ten years. I’m pretty mixed on the idea of everything going battery operated.

You asked about the Milwaukee, well I’ll give my honest opinion as an avid Milwaukee Tool user. First off, I owned a gas Toro super recycler with 190cc Briggs engine and loved it but just sold it to stay battery only. So now I currently own last years Toro 60v recycler 22” and now the new Milwaukee Fuel mower. I absolutely love the Milwaukee which I was concerned about the drive system because of how much I love toro’s personal pace but it’s not an issue like I anticipated. My front yard in total is 6,900 sq. Feet and I can cut all of that 1-1/2 times before the batteries die on the Milwaukee which exceeded my expectations tremendously! It has plenty of power and cuts great with sharp blades but I have found if I wait just a little too long to cut the grass and am taking a little too much off it does struggle to fully get an even cut and you have to hit spots again sometimes. But overall I am very impressed with it and it doesn’t leave behind as much clippings as the Toro Recycler unless your taking too much off which almost any mower will at that point.

My yard is about 10 k sq ft of grass and it just seems like the 60 volt battery is not cutting the grass as good as the gas model. I am very fussy and i keep my lawn pristine. Tough decision because i hate taking my gas toro for a spring tune up and dealing with buying gas. And to me you would think the battery model would be less expensive than the gas model.

The "autobot" looks like a good idea for the small flat English back yard, however those of us with trees and leaves to pick-up, need a bagging capacity. It is either that or keep raking until the blisters show up. As for electric vs gas, I was sold on electric after I bought my first cordless tool years ago, a Greenworks hedge trimmer. Then I switched to EGO because of their improved tool line and battery ratings. I do appreciate "Green" and still like my gas Toro super recycler. However, I'm moving to an electric mower next to save my hearing. A 20-25 db drop in noise output is a big deal.

I think it's important to note which model Toro 60v you had as there are a few different ones that have been available over the years. I have one of the original models 20366 which I'm assuming you are referring to here. Newer models have the ability to run the mower on full speed permanently instead of only when needed which drastically improves the cut. This is an important difference that people should be aware of. There are also changes to the mower deck in newer models and they now have a 60v super recycler model as well.

    • @minoutv7347
      @minoutv7347 Рік тому +2

Totally agree! I had the 60V Recycler when it first came out. Then switched to the 60V Super Recycler when it became available. The Super Recycler offers three blades one is a regular blade, another is a high lift blade and the third is even a higher lift blade. With tall fescue, the highest lift blade works best for our lawn, but higher lift blades consume more battery time. I believe at some point I’ll go with a robo mower, but not at that point yet.

However, the LCN has a video comparing the two and they seem to be on par, though these were both gasoline engines in this particular video. What I do know is with the Toro Super Recycler 60V, my lawn looks like it has been cross cut, even though I only made one pass in one direction. My local Toro dealer said the reason why is because Toro put one of their professional motors on the consumer Super Recycler and that is why it gives a better cut. However, as I stated before, I have not compared this side by side with a Honda. But I have never seen such an even cut in one pass with the older 60V Recycler model.

I have the same 60v Toro mower (last year's model version) and agree with the shortcomings talked about here. I do enjoy using it though, in spite of those, and just kinda work around them. My biggest "plus" for these types of mowers is that they are just easy to maintain and use. I despise messing with oil, filters, gas, exhaust, tune-ups, etc. You just roll it out, pop the battery in and you're off and running. They are also easy to move around and fold up/store to get them out of the way....so light and compact.

I live it TX, have St. St. Augustine, 10K Sf of grass, no hills but pretty uneven terrain in spots, sprinkler heads and septic heads and fenced in backyard and I am super Hank Hill about the way my yard looks. Because of the heat I cut it super long, 4in actually it would be higher if I could figure out how 4x4 my push mower. Will a Robo mower handle the the height and thickness of the grass, is it going to mulch well or leave trash everywhere? Are they like my robo vac and sometimes get stuck and need help? Since I have no desire to pick the thing up and move it from the front to the back and am to cheap to buy 2 could I build a robo doggie door or something for the transition from front to back yard, would it even be able to do that move since it would need to go up the driveway over several feet to get to the back yard? I'll be looking forward to the full review of the robo-mower; this is kinda shocking that you are being so positive so far about it, as I know you are highly demanding
....personally I just decided to stick it out for another 5 more years with my original 80v Pro GreenWorks tool lineup, and get a fresh mower and battery of the same again; as the rest of my tools are in great shape, but I was very abusive to the first mower - so for $500 I refreshed the mower(take better care of it this time) and upped it to a 5ah battery(400watt hours), then I can gift the beater mower and decent battery to my Mom or someone, as it still works fine(likely a new blade) then that will give me a total of 10 years(5 before, and another 5 to come) to see what will be developed new then - as I know the GreenWorks is ageing some in design, but really all eMowers are still so close to the same; so I'll feel better sticking it out with my whole tool lineup, instead of taking a small side-step to adopt another battery system of tools - as you really have to consider that battery lawn tools/eMowers make the most sense when you get multi products in that line, so they all can share the same batteries which is where the investment is
I suppose it could be different if you only had a single tool like the eMower alone, and you could jump around; but then you are missing out on another of the biggest advantages of these battery systems

I just shut off the system for the next three days as we are getting heavy frost every night through Monday. We will see how she goes.

My concern with robo mowers are this. It mows when I’m not watching it so what’s stopping someone from stealing it right out of my yard? I don’t live in a poor neighborhood but it is a big neighborhood and I don’t trust some of my neighbors. I don’t even know some of my neighbors. It would be really easy for someone to grab it and go. With theft so high even at public stores, I’m afraid to get a robo mower. To answer another comment, I have the HRN216 Honda and despite its “twin blades” I’m very disappointed in it. The cut is terrible and the engine has had multiple problems. Honda is recalling all of their mowers and they pulled the remaining ones from stores. They also stopped making lawnmowers permanently. There will be no Hondas anymore. My 20 year old Honda still runs like a champ, better than the new one did. I found a brand new EGO 56V with a 7.5aH battery for $350 on Facebook. I only took the chance because I have other EGO tools that can use that 7.5 battery so it was worth the gamble. I still haven’t mowed with it yet.

Early, and cheaper, electric mowers focused on efficiency at the expensive of cut quality. Much like electric cars - if you put bigger wheels/tires, more acceleration/speed, then you lose range.
If you put bigger blades on an electric mower, or spin the blade faster, you lose time. My 22" toro60v cut quality and suction was poor out of the box. I switched for a high lift blade when I want to bag or switch to toros 22in atomic blade when I want mulch (interestingly, the 22" 60v comes with a 21in blade, likely to save battery lift). Both blades significantly improve the quality at the expense of runtime.
