    I have lusted over one of these for about a year now. Eventually I will have one but I'm sure it will be a few more years before I can afford it. Thanks for the video.

    That foot switch is a great thing. I have a wall switch at the tail side of my lathe that shuts power off to both my lathe and dust collection system.

    I currently turn on two old lathes.... A 1960s Powermatic 90 and an equally old Oliver 2159. My plan is to treat myself to a new Robust AB when I retire and then sell one of the old guys. Thanks for the review.

    Greetings Sam, I'm over west of you in Idaho and was considering making an 8 year review of my AB now that it is out of warrantee but really nothing much to say. It's rock solid, functions like new. I wish my hand wheel was numbered, as well as the quill but that's minor. I've never missed a speed readout. Have viewed many of your videos and thanks. Also, you mentioned around 12:20 about the fan coming on to cool the motor. Its actually the van that cools the VFD.

      Thanks I agree. The American Beauty is an awesome machine. A little pricey at first but I have never been sorry and thanks for the info on the fan. I didn’t know that Sam.

    If I were in the market for a new lathe Robust would certainly be high on the list of prospects. Thank you for sharing. Have a great holiday and stay safe.

    The AB lathe has a bunch of great features.

    Sam, I’m probably going to take a deep breath and blow the necessary money on an AB. The only qualm I have is the lack of a speed display. Any comment on that?

    • @WYOMINGWOODTURNER
      @WYOMINGWOODTURNER  2 роки тому

      I really don't find it an issue. If you need to know the speed, there is a speed scale around the speed dial. Could you email me at samandcheryle@gmail.com we can carry on this conversation in private. Thanks for looking into a Robust lathe. Sam

    I know that these are highly regarded lates but I think I'll just stay with my Nova Saturn. Does about everything thats shown on this video at about 1/2-1/3 the price

      Same here. The only thing my NOVA DVR XP struggles with is coring. Because this is available with a 3HP motor, however, it's on my retirement wish list. Well...at least that's the plan (for now).

    What a fantastic lathe! Id absolutely LOVE to have an American Beauty! But, I suppose first, id probably need a shop to put it in!

    I've been considering getting a bigger lathe, but I have a bit of a dilemma. My shop is in the basement; it's accessible through a ground level door in the rear of the house. I don't know how I'd move a big lathe from the front of the house to the rear and inside the basement. Do they ever ship these knocked down? It would still be difficult to move the pieces, but much easier than the assembled tool. I've also thought about getting one of those Harbor Freight folding shop cranes to disassemble it in the garage and reassemble in the basement. I can't the first to come up against this. Is there a common solution?

      Jim, I have an American Beauty and love it. When I was considering getting a big lathe I looked at a lot (all I could find adds for). The only draw back I saw on the AM was no readout. I haven’t missed it a bit. The fact that Robust is as much MADE IN THE USA as possible made the decision easy. As for getting it into your basement, you can take off the tail stock, banjo, headstock and legs. Then you (and a buddy) could carry these and the bed to the basement and reassemble. If you need any help on this process you can always call Robust and Brent English or one of his experts will gladly help you. The have to be one of the best customer service companies in the US. Hope this helps and good luck with your Christmas present 😉👍👍👍 Cheers, Tom

      Thanks for your post. What would you say about the Robust lamp vs. the ones available from Woodworkers Wonders?

      @@jimbalz3017 I actually have the Super Nova from WoodTurners Wonders. I’ve been using it for about 1-1/2 years and really like it. I really haven’t looked into the Robust light, but I found interesting Sam’s articulated light/camera mount. I may have to check into that one. Cheers, Tom

      Jim, I understand the problem. I sold a lathe to a gentleman with a similar situation. He had a daylight basement entry in the back of his house. He is a teacher in a high school and used part of the football team to literally carry the lathe around the house. I think taking the banjo and the tailstock off would help ( a little) but the headstock would be difficult with all the wiring attached, Please email me so we can continue this conversation. samandcheryle@gmail.com

      I think needing the readout depends so much on the individual
      turner. I sometimes look at a digital ready when turning just out of interest and not that I need to know how fast the RPMs are running. But it would be nice. The on/off control does have a scale on the dial that does work-it just takes a second longer to read it. Sam

      Frank, thank you for this comment. You do make me a bit nervous, I fear that you will start making UA-cam videos with a much higher quality than what I can produce-and put me out of business. 😫 -

    • @FrankMac59
      @FrankMac59 5 місяців тому

      @@WYOMINGWOODTURNER I wouldn't worry too much. I haven't wood turned for 10 years and just getting back into it so there's no competition and if I ever did video in the future, it certainly wouldn't be about Woodturning.

    • @WYOMINGWOODTURNER
      @WYOMINGWOODTURNER  5 місяців тому

      @FrankMac59 I do take your point that perhaps this video was repetitive. But here is a big consideration when doing a video. I have a certain audience of loyal viewers. They may not watch other UA-camrs. And maybe many of them have never seen a particular video so doing the same content someone else does is not repetitive for them
      Thanks Sam
