You are an amazing pilot. I flew hang gliders in the 80s and your skills would have blown us away. Watching your videos reignites my passion for flying. Thank you Wolfgang.
I also flew hang gliders in 1976 to the early 80's then got sidetracked into airplanes. I built a Glasair 1RG 245 HP. Larry Tudor taught me the transition from seated to prone at the point of the mountain near SLC. Dave Rodriguez of Wasatch Wings was my primary instructor.
yes technology is advancing, but there are still so many good pilots who forget to hang on ... two weeks ago, a young 28-year-old apprentice instructor was killed like that in the French Alps.
John K n Kent Harper.did it back in the 90's. There was an article about it in the June 1996 issue of Hang Gliding magazine. They flew off the Foresthill Bridge in Auburn, CA
I can't believe you had enough energy to skim and then 180 and still use up most of the LZ! Bet it was interesting getting the wing out to the ramp when semi's went by :-) I would like to see the full external shot from the bridge (without the distortion).
I wish had known you were doing this. I live an hour away, and would love to have watched you live. That wing truly becomes part of you. Soooooo damn cool!
Stay strong, you'll get back to it most of us are with you waiting for the world to start back up. I really have enjoyed your videos the last few days and had to subscribe. This is something I've always wanted to do and I'm going to do it. I already quit my job as an operating engineer and I'm going to buy a used glider and travel the US and just do it all on my own.
Super Video gratuliere!
The New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia would be a great place for you to do this. They close the bridge to traffic one day out of the year and do base jumps, bungee jumps and the like. Don't think anyone has launched a hanglider from there yet. Check it out.
I must learn to hangglide. I went out and bought a hanglider wanting to get into the sport unfortunately I didnt do enough research and the wing I bought happened to be a vintage delta wing , i have another hangglider that was sold to me with it i have yet to open it. I live in new England Maine nh area
John Kockleman and Kent Harker jumped off the Auburn bridge in California 1997. They used a platform extension to launch. The Auburn bridge is the tallest bridge in California and similar to the one Wolfie used in this jump. 730 feet. John Kockleman also top landed a hang glider on Mount Whiteney. 14, 505 feet ASL. His glider was confiscated by the park rangers.
Awesome again! Wish you didn't use the 360 camera though. How many of the BASE letters do you end up with? Building, possible, if you haven't done it already. Span, you just did it. Earth, done. That leaves antenna left. Hard to do, but I'm sure you can figure out something. Then you would be the worlds first HG to get earned full BASE credit ;-) Cheers.
This is the Perrine Bridge in Twin Falls, Idaho. BASE Jumping is sanctioned and supported by the City of Twin Falls - 100% legal. The small platform was already there.
Can you set up and break down the wing on that platform ? :) Awesome Video Woolgang. Now for part 2... a balloon drop from over the bridge with a dive under the bridge into a loop and back over the top upside down.
Hi friend I love your videos and thanks to you encourage me to want to learn to fly. Greetings from Colombia. My dream is one day to be able to fly with you over the clouds as in the tictoc video
You are really crazy man))) be careful, we wannna more videos) sorry for my bad english, im Russian. Hi from Russia friend! by the way I wish learn to fly by paraplan and hope will do it soon
Can recommend you the airpark of Yutza near from Pyatigorsk to learn flying with paraglider. I work, live and flew there for many years. Ask for Aleksandr Schpak. One of the best instructor in field of paragliding привет от Йенса
@@TheFjordflier I know I would have fun, but my beginner glider cant dive that fast, do a low pass over the water then 180 into landing! And I dont yet have the skills to pilot a topless glider and do that myself without a meaningful chance of getting killed. But I do admire wolfi A LOT maybe one day I'll get to his level!

Hey Wayne. I too flew Hang Gliders in the 80's - and have recently got back into flying again.
The technology advance is truly amazing!

@@TheFjordflier Yes he did... 😢
Skills!!! Well done bro. 🤟
Your turn Tucker ... you need to try HG one of these days
Lol good idea. Tucker give it a try! Maybe let Wolfe fly you tandem.
Tucker, come take a tandem with us. We would love to show you how we fly!
Wolfgang Siess AND Tucker Gott in ONE comment section??? What is this, a pilot episode?

Well, no doubt he was the first fly a hang glider off *this* particular bridge with a hang glider.
I thought so. Seems like they tried pretty much everything with a HG already in the old days :D

That they did.
I knew Kent and John. Two wild and crazy guys....maybe just one.
But it isn’t too different from a cliff launch?

This only gets more epic with time
Excellent. Could be a good place for tandem flights. Ha ha.
Charles I’d love to be his passenger! But has to be on a T3 wing. Falcon = no fun.
wow , you are an outstanding pilot, 👍
Nice!! I recognized the snake river immediately. Have a quite a few BASE jumps off that span. Good job!
Totally Awesome. Loved it. Your one of a kind, Wolfi!!
Wow Wolfgang I've seen plenty of base jumpers do the Perrine but never a hang glider. Nice video
when the guys of Bungee Jumping miss the rendez vous... :))) Cheers Wolfy !

I would really love to fly someday. Either with hang glide or parachute. I live in a camper so not sure if hang glider fits on the roof.
