Fully agree with Charlie and Gavin. The 959 is such an iconic RC kit. Should go the full chassis range and include the Toyota Celica Gr.B kit too. For me the box should remain standard with a 50th anniversary sleeve on top. Also please publish a book focused on the box-art that includes the artists that illustrated them. This would be AMAZING!!! Gav... Keep up the great work. RCKicks is boss 👌
The answer to keeping the price down and stopping kits being sold on for profit is to produce more kits. Spending £600 on what is a toy car requires a hell of a lot of disposable income especially when you have kids and I dont think anyone would complain if this became a mainstream model again so rather than it being a specific 50th anniversary model why not make it your best seller of all time? It would celebrate the 50th year in style and answer the childhood dreams of millions.
2 years for us to get saved up because you know whatever gets released it might not be cheap. A chance to make it even more special by putting in 2 body shells, the original and version of the new Dakar.
Yes sir they have to do that one it was always to much for me to get as a kid and now would be a great time to release it. ❤🎉🎉. Love the vids. Keep up the amazing work
This was my 1st rc car and boy would I like to own one now. I saved my paper round money for months but when I got it I had the biggest smile on my face. 🤞
Even with the 959 being so iconic we can’t rule out Tamiya RERe the Toyota Hilux in its iconic metal chassis and 3 speed gearbox and locking hubs Even with the Bruiser still around it means half the job is done for them and they could do a special body The 959 could be on the Tamiya to do list 😊
Most definitely the 959 for all the reasons you mentioned. It’s THE iconic Tamiya Kit, always wanted one and I remember when they came out and wished I had gotten one back then. I do also believe that they should do what Kyosho has done with their legendary series. Which is do a resto-mod 959, keep the nostalgic feel, but make improvements to make it more durable and drive better!
Great video Gav! I would have to agree with pretty much everything you said there mate. It would be delightful to see it for the 50th anniversary. Keen fan of the 959...... I own two 959s and a celica GRB. I fully restored one 959 and a celica to totally 'as new' condition at huge expense (nearly £1000 per car to get them perfect).... each has all the original box/packaging instructions etc. I then built a runner 959 with all the left over parts..... it broke every time I took it out for the first dozen or so runs due to the brittle ageing ABS plastics! So, I replaced all of the weak areas (hubs, suspension arms/wishbones etc) with aluminium upgrades! It's now a great reliable runner that I use regularly, I even race it as well!! These cars can be run, and aren't quite as weak as people make out once the suspension arms and hubs are upgraded. The gearboxes are very tough and rarely break. Body shell is like tracing paper, but i have a display shell and a running beat up shell..... the dents and dings on the runner shell actually give it character very reminiscent of a working rally car! Hardest things to get these days to keep it on the road are the tires and brushes for the technigolds motor. I have many videos of my 959s on our channel at Green Hawks RC if of any interest. If Tamiya do re re it, it needs to be as close to the original in every way, right down to the box and blister packs.... Re re's need to be exactly that-- a re release of the original. Tougher plastics for the hubs, suspension arms and wish bones YES, also thicker lexan body YES! Other than that, leave it alone. As for the motor, it's highly unlikely they will re produce the technigolds, more likely re badge a GT tuned as that is of similar performance. But, an exact re re of the technigold would be one hell of a good idea, and would make a great general release. I'm sure it would sell well for the vintage market, and a people doing restorations. I have 5 technigolds that I run, they are a great match for most vintage Tamiyas. They are bomb proof build quality, offer a nice balance of enhanced speed/acceleration whilst at the same time having mechanical empathy for vintage gearboxes. They are fully rebuildable , and the sound they give off is just devine. I'm sure Tamiya would sell heaps of them if re issued! Although I used original new old stock decals for my mint one, the MCI decals are a very good reproduction, I'm sure most people could go down that route if they do re re it for their 50th. Just please, NO TTO2 shite.... We all want it how it was!!!! Be most interesting to see how this unfolds, watch this space as they say!! By the way, the original 959 came only with rally block tires, the slicks were a hop up option back in the day mate. The slicks seem to have stood the test of time much better, and don't seem to suffer rubber decay and splitting in the same way as the harder rally blocks! Great video Gav, this ones guna get some views for sure! 😉 👍 👍 👍
I bought and built this back in the day. This was my first RC car build. Still have the model, requires a couple of transmission shaft spare parts. Classic. Lets get it re-made.
Great idea. I'm with you as long they won't limit it so tight in numbers as the 45th ones. 500 to 600 is a good range. Go over it and the gamblers smile and buy it for half the price a year later.
AGREE 1000%! My first car and start of my Tamiya obsession! ICONIC. If they made this with the specs you described I would buy one INSTANTLY. I wouldn't do a USB (do computers even have USB ports anymore?) - maybe a QR code that links to a special site with all of the video goodies and easter eggs you mentioned. That would save Tamiya some $ to put into a PROPER TECHNIGOLD MOTOR and BLISTERPACKS - which are MUST HAVES as you said. Also agree with some other comments here - a 50th anniversary hardcover coffee table book of all of the Tamiya box art plus the stories behind the illustrations/artists would be incredible.
I never saw the big deal with Tamiyas. Unfortunately I missed them as a kid. Then the good folk of Rochester RC introduced me to them and I'm hooked. Swore I wouldn't own one and now have 5 in collection including the awesome Plasma Edge II with plans for more...
The only re-re I am hanging out for. As a kid I craved one and I finally bought one NIB from Japan in early 2000’s for 500 dollars.. the greatest build ever and the hardest body. Bring it back!
If tamiya did a 959 with no visible body posts or clips, no externally visible antenna, and maybe even a pre painted body, it would sell like air to a scuba diver. An absolute MUST HAVE!
What Tamiya should really celebrate - is the fact that they still have the sense to seal their off-road buggy transmissions, make sleek lexan bodies, and include big front bumpers.
I bought the celica gr.b kit way back when it was released, the Porsche was out of stock but these 2 kits were the best available at the time with superb performance. I still have my celica which still runs but sits retired on a shelf.
We need this car and the Chassis is easily the most important part of it, that compact design is a masterpiece of miniature engineering and incredibly enjoyable to build. I want one to run and sit alongside my original, I also want the GrB Celica (I am so demanding 😂), seriously, please Tamiya, we love you, give us these cars, pretty please with sugar on top ❤
Totally agree. I have been lucky enough to build and restore one and it is a lovely chassis. Unfortunately the design was too far ahead of the plastics of the time. Today with amazing composite plastics, it could be made much stronger. That and a few small changes to some issue areas. Totally doable for sure.
Here in Australia, we are still paying nearly $1200 for a re-re Bruiser, so I would happily pay that for the 959. Everything you said is a must; gold motor, bearings etc.. and it shouldn't be an issue for Tamiya to upgrade the plastics. This kit needs to happen!! Keep up the good work, Gav.
Come on Tamiya, we need this back! I had this first time around and I absolutely loved it. Much quicker than the other kits that I had around the time and driving the car in the dark to take advantage of the lights was a great novelty… however it normally ended with a detached upper/lower wishbone😂 I’d buy another!
100% agree with you Gavin. Come on Tamiya, listen to the man! No issues with "racing" decals rather than "rothmans" as long as it's basically the same car underneath. I suppose 2 years is too early to pre-order...
Yes, this is the best RC Car ever, so Please Tamiya listen to your fans and release the Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar version as your 50th anniversary release. 🙂
1/8th version with metal components to correct the breakage . Metal swing ams , gear box cases , metal bearings , etc etc . Velcro body to shell and inner wheel arches = dirt proofing , Poly carbon light bar as always broke ! Stronger cabin material . Body that can be livery or road . Wheels yellow rally or 959s road and slicks and nobble tyres
Maybe for the 50th Tamiya could bring out a new top end contemporary 1/10 rc model. So not just looking back but also being of the moment in 2026. Like they tried to be when the 959 came out first time around.
I am definitely on board with this, don't care about blister packs, would love a pre painted white blue and gold body and to just apply decals. To solve scalpers don't limit kits, I want 2 one to run one to have in box. Just keep releasing them till we all have one or two each.
Hi Gav, did watch this when you released it, but have just re-watched, & leaving a comment as instructed ;) One thing not mentioned is the MSC vs ESC question, can't imagine a re-re with an MSC but that symmetrical servo layout was a bit of a signature for this chassis for me... Would be an epic rerelease!
Fully agree with Charlie and Gavin. The 959 is such an iconic RC kit. Should go the full chassis range and include the Toyota Celica Gr.B kit too. knowing Tamiya so well, they’ll probably rerelease the 959!!
using the tt02 chassis
😂
Definitely the car every tamiya lover wants 😊😋👍👍

yes yes yes...this kit will be very much a want for every Tamiya fans for sure!
2 years for us to get saved up because you know whatever gets released it might not be cheap.
A chance to make it even more special by putting in 2 body shells, the original and version of the new Dakar.
Porsche 959 re-release please! Tamiya, I could not afford the original kit when I was younger but now I can! Please do it!
totally agree at all! And the Celica Gr.B also - i would by both (and not only one 🙂)
real nice collection. .... even nicer display !! nice work !!!
YES PLEASE MR TAMIYA!!!!! ❤

I have nothing to add, you’ve hit the nail on the head right across the board with this one Gav… Tamiya give us this car… ❤️💙
I want the 959 kit! Tamiya please do it! I could not afford it when it was initially released. But now that I'm making money I can afford one.
I would love for Tamiya to release this kit. The 959 Dakar car is so iconic and rally fans like me love it.
Love to see a re release of the 959 !
100%, you, me and about 95% of the Tamiya RC fans but you know Tamiya, we will probably end up get it on a XM-01 PRO chassis
@@RCKickschanneli would also love to see a martini porsche 936 turbo release, was my dream car as a kid, could not afford it though…..
959 - 100% agree Tamiya take my $$$ now
Blazing Blaze
2001 Avante
King Cab / Monster
Falcon
Astute

Bring it!!! Every single release from Tamiya, I cross my fingers for the 959.
They should 1000% make this car. In addition, they should produce a “runner” series and have a 50+ vintage rc global competition
Yes Tamiya, bring it on!
The 959 in 1/10th scale would be great to have this one in line on the shelf with the other great Porsches
Yes, bring it on Tamiya!!!!!!!
100% agree . I think you’re spot on with that price estimate .
Yes! We want it!!! Pleaseeee Tamiya!!!
A 959 Roughroads sounds spot on.
Great video Gav!

👍 👍 👍
Oh yes, a very good choice for the 50th Anniversary!!! My vote is in!!!
imagine the price?
wont happen
Oh Yeah! A 959 for the 50th would be stupendous!
I still have this car from when i was a kid. Omg ide love to build it again. Do it Tamiya!!!!!
A Gold Plated Edition Porsche 934 for their 50th Golden Anniversary would be great
I think we will see something special from Tamiya for the 50th but what that will be? Who knows with Tamiya LOL.
Yes 100% please bring that Porsche 959 back please come on tamiya !!!! Love ya stuff

I want more than one kit. That's part horrible idea. At least 2, one to build, one to run.

Spot on Gavin! You're saying what we're all thinking
I swear to God if that car comes out I'm buying it. My wife will have no say. It's happening. 50th anniversary 959. Dear Santa
I'm from Germany and I hope Tamiya will do what you sayin in the Video.
Hope so
The only re-re I am hanging out for. As a kid I craved one and I finally bought one NIB from Japan in early 2000’s for 500 dollars.. the greatest build ever and the hardest body. Bring it back!

Definitely! I’d buy a few for myself. One to build and one for nib.
If tamiya did a 959 with no visible body posts or clips, no externally visible antenna, and maybe even a pre painted body, it would sell like air to a scuba diver. An absolute MUST HAVE!
Please bring this back!! I love it so. Now Porsche has the 911 Dakar so what a great opportunity to do both?!
Seems fitting. Been wanting one for decades. ❤
What Tamiya should really celebrate - is the fact that they still have the sense to seal their off-road buggy transmissions, make sleek lexan bodies, and include big front bumpers.
Rere the Striker while we're at it!
I bought the celica gr.b kit way back when it was released, the Porsche was out of stock but these 2 kits were the best available at the time with superb performance. I still have my celica which still runs but sits retired on a shelf.
Awesome ❤❤
That will be a dream come true!
As soon as tamiya bring the model back iam getting one
Snap
Porsche 959 only choice
Come on tamiya do it!!!!
I would buy this as soon as i could. And the Celica. Hopefully with some better quality plastic for the front lower wishbones.
Yes, but in 1:10.
Definitely a good vintage car!! 959!!
We need this car and the Chassis is easily the most important part of it, that compact design is a masterpiece of miniature engineering and incredibly enjoyable to build. Uk biggest Tamiya channel ......👍🏻....lol
Sure is 🤔😜
Yes, I want the 959 just like your idea. Keep origin chassis but can has some improvement, that is really important.
Totally agree with you! With all the extras with the Seals with the Name on it, would go up to 800.-
Come Tamiya! This would be the coolest thing that you could ever do...
Yes! Do it Tamiya!!
Here in Australia, we are still paying nearly $1200 for a re-re Bruiser, so I would happily pay that for the 959.

Keep up the good work, Gav.
Great video. We definitely need it to be the 959!
Preach it, Father Gavin!
lol
I am completely with you on this! 👍
Absolutely, Tamiya 959 all the way. If they build it right, I’ll buy 5 to keep me going. I got a new one for Christmas back in 1989 and still have it.
If the want to blow this out of the park, ship it with a pre-painted body.
do it Tamiya!!!
wow, i had this rc when i was a kid, it came with a technigold motor, loved that car, reminds me of childhood tamiya 959
YES YES YES!!!!
This needs help being pushed with a few of your fellow UA-camrs who are big Tamiya fans!! Power in numbers!!!
No brainer Tamiya ! Would by a kit and an expert built version !
I agree entirely with all your suggestions! Would buy one immediately
I dreamed of this car as a kid. Being 2026 is my 50th aswell it would be a great reward. 🎉
The Porsche 959 is the only Tamiya that I still want... YOU CAN DO IT TAMIYA!
Same
No
Very good and most definitely need this car!!
100% agree with you Gavin. Come on Tamiya, listen to the man! No issues with "racing" decals rather than "rothmans" as long as it's basically the same car underneath. I suppose 2 years is too early to pre-order...
Great Video. Great idea. That 959 Rothmans car is a perfect choice
I got into rc because I love to tinker.A video from the designers and engineers would be fantastic! I'd snap one of these up for sure.
Yes, this is the best RC Car ever, so Please Tamiya listen to your fans and release the Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar version as your 50th anniversary release. 🙂
Id love a 959
Great ideas Gavin😊 Pete
1/8th version with metal components to correct the breakage . Metal swing ams , gear box cases , metal bearings , etc etc .
Velcro body to shell and inner wheel arches = dirt proofing , Poly carbon light bar as always broke ! Stronger cabin material . Body that can be livery or road . Wheels yellow rally or 959s road and slicks and nobble tyres
Great ideas Gav, lets hope they take notice and take some action.
Maybe for the 50th Tamiya could bring out a new top end contemporary 1/10 rc model. So not just looking back but also being of the moment in 2026. Like they tried to be when the 959 came out first time around.
The BBX has been a big hit for them I think so one looking back and one looking forward could work like you say.
I would like to see the Blazing Blazer for the 50th anniversary
Please Please Please Tamiya release the 959 and the celica grb … fantastic cars… been waiting so many years… I would definitely buy a couple of each
I am definitely on board with this, don't care about blister packs, would love a pre painted white blue and gold body and to just apply decals. To solve scalpers don't limit kits, I want 2 one to run one to have in box. Just keep releasing them till we all have one or two each.
Yea!😂 Charlie wont argue much...tho😅loll!
Hi Gav, did watch this when you released it, but have just re-watched, & leaving a comment as instructed ;)
One thing not mentioned is the MSC vs ESC question, can't imagine a re-re with an MSC but that symmetrical servo layout was a bit of a signature for this chassis for me...
Did run mine with a Speedmaster Silver Star once i got one back in the day, but it always looked messy, and I didn't like shoving the receiver in the 2nd servos' place,
with that & the stick pack related design, I can't imagine Tamiya re-releasing the 959 without a complete redesign of the central section of the monocoque-
which could be done with the way it separates from each gearbox :) - I'd hate to see a bath-tub put in it's place though, or worse, just the body just dumped on an M-Chassis :(
Keep the pressure on though Dude- and let's see what happens! :)
Thank you for the heads up on the new coming Tamiya 50th Anniversary car.
Awesome video Gavin, let’s hope Tamiya are listening 👍🏻👍🏻
I would buy 2.
A 1/10 scale one and the OG 1/12 scale 959!
Let's go!!🤞👍
