  • During the 70s and 80s, many aliens visited the small towns of American television. One such alien that arrived on American television screens in the September of 1978 was Mork, played by the tremendously talented Robin Williams. Dressed in a red spacesuit and silver boots, Mork arrived on planet Earth to dig information on the backward beings that inhabited this planet. Mork's love for humour, which was prohibited on his planet Ork, had impelled his Orkan overlords, especially Orson, to device ways to get rid of this little twerp who kept cracking jokes and thus, he was sent to Earth on this mission.
Out of his egg spacecraft, Mork immediately runs into Mindy, a beautiful journalist, played by Pam Dawber, abandoned by her boyfriend in the middle of nowhere. Mork chaperons Mindy back to the town, starting a relationship that would keep viewers interested and fascinated for four years. This Garry Marshall-created series was a spin-off of the then hugely popular Happy Days. The show started Robin William's career and won Williams the Best TV Actor Golden Globe in 1979 and an Emmy nomination. Critics applauded Williams' portrayal of Mork and every episode of the first season of the show drew close to 60 million viewers.
In this video, we revisit the world of Mork & Mindy and highlight 16 Mork & Mindy facts that will make you say 'Shazbot'! So, hit the play button and enjoy.

In the summer of 1979, I had the good fortune of being part of the audience for the rehearsal of a second season episode of "Mork and Mindy" (I think it was "Clerical Error" - the one were Mork wants to become a Priest). It was the best early birthday present ever; not only did I get to see my comedic hero, but I also was treated to hearing Robin Williams go off book. I'll never forget the riff he did about circumcising elephants. It was pure comedy gold; so random, but it worked!

I agree with your viewpoint on the "additionals aspect". As a 10 year old at the time, I think it might have been getting a little complicated with the introduction of new characters so frequently.

As funny as Jonathon Winters as Mearth is, it would have been better without him. Mork and Mindy should have gone out travelling or bring the time travel plot in sooner. As an alien gimmick maybe the 4 years were enough, but I would have kept watching it if it had a season 5. Robin and Pam of Mork and Mindy reunited one episode on "the Crazy Ones" starring Robin Williams many years later during the 2013-2014 single season.

I'm not. I was a fan when I was 11 in 1978 and it was a new show, but for me, Williams' act wore thin by the time the 80s rolled around. That frantic, coked-up persona was too much after several viewings.

My sister's blind so I understand the frustration of not having Descriptive Video. You should look up his New York stand up routine from like 2002, its some of his best material (according to me) :)

Jonathan Winters did played Mindy's Uncle Dave McConnell on Season 3 Episode 18 on Mork and Mindy before he was recast as Mearth! I though I let you know about it: Fact Verse and everybody on UA-cam!

They could still be making it and it would be far too soon to not have Robin Williams' genius. I miss him so much.

It was also based on My Favorite Martian starring Ray Waldron and Bill Bixby.

'Though quite young at the time, I remember being shocked that one of the characters was called 'Arnold Wanker' and wondering whether the surname had the same slang meaning in the US as it does in the UK.

The word "wanker" doesn't exist in American slang, so either it was a coincidence or someone on the writing staff knew it.

Actually, it was really only a part of Love American Style in order to be aired and given a chance to grow. If it wasn’t for the success of American Graffiti, this episode would have been all we would have ever seen of Happy Days.
