I just purchased my dream truck 1980 Toyota pickup and honestly don’t know much about cars but I want to learn. Anyways thank you so much for this content.! It’s so helpful
Thanks for the excellent videos. You have inspired me to repair the rusted floors in my 1969 Cadillac convertible instead of paying someone else to do the work for me.
The steering shaft comes out through the firewall as a unit ( 4 bolts) it should come into the cab. I have never seen one yanked out like in the video? Great tip on the e-brake cable.
@@6thGearGarage hahahaha yeah or me whenever I look at my waiting new OME Steering Stabilizer, Leaf spring set, KO2 tires and all the other new parts im gonna slap on my 86 turbo truck when they will stop salting the whole country over here !
When unhooking the steering shaft from the box...did you take out the bolt out on the shaft at the top by firewall to get the shaft to slide(compress) away from the box? I have a BRAND new, not rebuilt box, (cost $650) for my 87 and its time to get it in, seeing Ive got 1/2 million miles...so far....
recently pickup up a 20R out of an 80 pickup.. its complete.. prolly needs good hot tank n honing.. but other that, no idea what im gonna do with it.. just want to build an engine n this was a really inexpensive way to get started
The cylinder heads from the 20 R engines are sought after. You can put a 20R head on an early 22R bottom end and have a bump in HP due to higher compression ratio.

Thanks! I love doing this work and sharing it with others who also find it interesting.

I didn't see that bolt on this 2wd 1980. I just removed the 2 bolts at the rag joint to disconnect the shaft from the box.
Do you happen to have a spare set of side mirrors like the ones on this body?
Sorry I do not.
@@6thGearGarage Thanks for the reply! Those are hard to come by.
I think in mine I just took out the steering column complete with the cover and all, but I am not certain it was a while ago.
I have done it that way as well, but was feeling lazy about dropping the column and disconnecting everything on this day.

@@6thGearGarage sweet.. does that also apply to the 22RE or no?
