The Land Rover Defender (originally called simply Land Rover Ninety, and later called the Land Rover Ninety and Land Rover One Ten) is a British four-wheel drive off-road vehicle developed in the 1980s from the original Land Rover series which was launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show in April 1948.
The vehicle (a British equivalent of the WWII Willys Jeep) gained a worldwide reputation for ruggedness and versatility. Using a steel ladder chassis and an aluminium alloy bodywork, the Landrover originally used detuned versions of Rover car engines.

If Land Rovers are garbage Mr Ramcharger, why is it that in most of the world, people who need to go into the bush, buy either a Defender or LC Troopie? The only place where they don't buy them, is in America and a few other countries, where they are not allowed to be sold. I'm an American, and wouldn't be caught dead trying to range the countryside in an overpriced, underpowered, unreliable, high-maintenance, midget payload vehicle like the Wrangler in any configuration. The closest they ever got to a real "bush dog", was the Wrangler "Africa" with diesel engine; but that was only a toy concept car, built for shits and giggles for the 2015 car show, which will never see production. I must admit, the above aesthetics are quite reminiscent of the local pimped whore that used to walk the streets of New Orleans; but the basic concept of this icon, sans the tacky make-up, is still as hard as woodpecker lips. I'd rather have that lip-glossed, Eastenders trollop, than anything America produces for the pseudo- "Off Road" crowd. Cheers to all my brothers across the pond; ignore my arrogant countrymen, they haven't a clue......... LOL!!!!!
Land rover Defender wasn't designed for the road anyway, it was designed for other places with no roads or rough terrain
