I myself worked almost 70 hours in a week (12 hours monday-friday and 8 hours on saturday) and for what? My health is ruined, I risked my life every day and I still only got a fraction of what I produced, barely more than minimum monthly wage needed to survive (approximately 5 dollars an hour in my country).

I think what I find fascinating about this home is just how skinny and long it is. This was deliberate, of course. When it was built there was no electricity or light bulbs. It relied upon natural lighting during the day, and likely bespoke, personal lighting solutions at night. That chandelier likely was once filled with hand-placed candles which needed regular replacement, and the various fireplaces provided the rest. A modern mansion would never had a long, skinny footprint like this, as it would not have to rely on natural light. (and it could include skylights, which were just not an option when this was built)
I personally like this set up better. Lots of natural light. Also the rooms aren't too big I noticed. They encourage closeness, socializing, and intimacy. Some of the big places built today are so huge with open plans it feels sterile and lonely and unsafe in a sense.
It’s actually privately owned by a famous decorator who renovated it and made it into a visitable museum and not a home! I actually visited it this summer, the video doesn’t even show most the crazy parts of that chateau lol

When it comes to winters there, I’m from there but haven’t actually lived there or visited during winters recently but I can say it’s not particularly harsh however Normandy is very rainy so winter is definitely not the best time to visit; idk where you are from but I’d say the weather is similar to that of England :)

You learned a valuable lesson. I was with a rich girl spending daddy’s money for 3 years. Lived in a mini-mansion and actual mansions everywhere else we went to visit. I have never felt more alone and depressed than I was at the end of that relationship. Sitting in my brand new mini-mansion with extraordinary luxury all around. It was 50% smaller, but 30 minutes from the ocean, instead of being in the Midwest lol. The location made me far more happy than the size of the house.
People forget that houses that big, lands that vast, had 100's of staff, to run it and serve you 24/7. Also, Royals, Dukes, and Nobles usually had their whole extended family and bloodlines living on-site as well as close friends (especially Louis 14th and his courtiers). Nowadays you'd just be a lonely vain billionaire in a cold dark house at night wondering why you feel so alone and spooked all the time.

I personally like this set up better. Lots of natural light. Also the rooms aren't too big I noticed. They encourage closeness, socializing, and intimacy. Some of the big places built today are so huge with open plans it feels sterile and lonely and unsafe in a sense.

It’s actually privately owned by a famous decorator who renovated it and made it into a visitable museum and not a home! I actually visited it this summer, the video doesn’t even show most the crazy parts of that chateau lol

@@ramborb8795 It’s the Château du Champ de Bataille and it’s in Normandy in northern France, not far from the city of Rouen. When it comes to winters there, I’m from there but haven’t actually lived there or visited during winters recently but I can say it’s not particularly harsh however Normandy is very rainy so winter is definitely not the best time to visit; idk where you are from but I’d say the weather is similar to that of England :)

I once house-sat a large mansion for a friend's parents when I was coincidentally in their city on a work-assignment for 2 weeks. It was actually quite lonely and since I knew no one in the area I spent most of my time in just the living room watching TV. I was happier when I got back to my crummy apartment cause at least I had some roommates there to talk to lol.

You learned a valuable lesson. I was with a rich girl spending daddy’s money for 3 years. Lived in a mini-mansion and actual mansions everywhere else we went to visit. I have never felt more alone and depressed than I was at the end of that relationship. Sitting in my brand new mini-mansion with extraordinary luxury all around. I’m much happier now in my 1,200 square foot D.R. Horton home! Drowning in peace lol
@itscomplicatedbeingawizard2892 I purposely sold my previous home because it had way more space than what I needed. I opted to then buy a similarly priced home for its location rather than size. It was 50% smaller, but 30 minutes from the ocean, instead of being in the Midwest lol. The location made me far more happy than the size of the house.

For anyone interested, this castle is in France Normandie and named "Champ-de-Bataille" (Battle Ground in english). You can visit it all year, the only room that is showed here you can't see is the library. Everything else you will see during the visit. I recommend it, it's marvelous !!
