I knew you had to oxygenate aquariums but have never heard of the problems of pond water - both you and americans call it a dug-out where we call it a pond which for a lot of farmers here would use this stored water from the winter months of runoff for irrigation in our summer. Another very informative video Cheers
Exactly.. Same as aquariums... If you have a bigger dougout they do not need tobe airated since they can hold up until spring breakup and then they start getting oxygen again.. But having them aireated is never a bad thing...
Another very interesting video of some of the things that you have to do on your farm. It sure is great to see all this by folks like myself that are not farmers. thank you. Wayne....
congratulations on 5000 subscribers. that's very unique way of aerating water. it would be neat to see an update on that in a few days. hope you're keeping warm spring is coming. have a great day
Glad a watched this I'm going to get a stone on Monday and put one in at the our old dug out the water is ugly the smell makes you want to barf thanks for the vid
Yea I used to just use a small hose with a few holes in it.. but the stone works better. I was told by a dugout limer.. and he said you dont need lime.. just have the airator going all the time.. its the best.
Very interesting lean somthing new every day, our ice in the mountains gets that thick in the mountains so it has to be cold cold there . ill bet the summers are nice though.
Well this set up has 2 lines.. I only use one.. but when you have both going at the same time the air is cut in half. But thats still a pretty good idea...
Umm I forget but my pond or dugout is about 50 x 100 more or less... and about average of 28 to 20 feet deep and its easily airated with that one pump.
i have to ask this question to u-norther farmer--so u can't drill a well for ur house water? like i have down here. isn't their a water table up their??
well even around here on account of the coal seams, we still have to have a water conditioner on the water. the iron here is so bad that it comes out of the ground red at lots of places thru out the summertime. rainwater is the best water source-IMO.
i got osage in my stove at the moment... we hedge nothing like the bone warming heat of a good wood stove... great idea for your pond i have to have one now because i never thought of doing something like that... thank you for this information
the old timers around here planted them years ago to make fence posts out of besause it never rotts... its real name is osage its a beautiful yellow wood and puts out more btu burning pound for pound any other wood... its verry hard on bars and chains because its so hard and dence... buggs wont eat it either... i wish i could send you some hedge apples so you could plant some of it... you would never have to buy another fence post...
Northern Farmeryeah, have heard of air stones they use them in ponds to add oxygen so to keep from smelling like rotten eggs from the plant that are decaying.
You bet.. there are a lot of them that you can see if you take a drive down the road... I have one to but I have just never put it up yet... they dont work pretty good to.. but not as good as a electric one..
No because the air is flowing through it and it keeps the water out.. if it ever stopped there is a valvle at the stone that doesnt let the water get back in ...
I said it in the video.... When the water is froze over it cant get oxygen so the water gets murky and smell...Water with lots of oxygen is nice and clear and tastes good
that was or is pretty cool. I did not know that needed to be done. I learn something new every time i watch thanks. Please check out desertfarmer. congrats on 5000
Learn something new everyday!!! Thanks for the video!
Same as when I watch your stuff about the dairy

Wayne....
No prob wayne
congratulations on 5000 subscribers! very informative video you made here.
Thanks...Glad you liked it.
it's going better since you have a fire to keep me warm while I watch your video. thanks for your videos keep them coming. have a great day
Haha yes and its really not to cold out right now... hovering around freezing temp
+Northern farmer hey i posted a video today... my first one... i was talking about you bringing that splitting ax to help lol
congratulations on 5000 subscribers. that's very unique way of aerating water. it would be neat to see an update on that in a few days. hope you're keeping warm spring is coming. have a great day
Thanks... I just realised I passed it lol. You have a good day to
very cool ..thanks for answering my question
have a great weekend
Glad a watched this I'm going to get a stone on Monday and put one in at the our old dug out the water is ugly the smell makes you want to barf thanks for the vid
Yea I used to just use a small hose with a few holes in it.. but the stone works better. I was told by a dugout limer.. and he said you dont need lime.. just have the airator going all the time.. its the best.
Thanks for the lesson. On very hot days do you take a dip to cool off?
Not really.. I used to have a pool..
Thats sweet how well that works!
It workes great... I thought I could get away till sping but I could tell the water was starting to change..
Windmill aerator will be interesting follow up vlog. Thanks, good info.
Thanks Karl
congratulations on 5000 subs
Thanks david
Will that one stone help your whole pond? Cool video!!
Yes it will... its almost overkill really but I like it.
Great video.
Thank you
great video, never seen a stone like that, Thanks for posting!
Yea I hadnt seen them until about 10 years ago.. before we used to just use a hose with pinholes in it
that's pretty cool it works in a pond
Yea its really the same thing.. if there were fish in there it would have to be in there steady
Thanks so much for this video!
I have heard of this but never seen it done before or how it was accomplished.
Cheers, Pete
No Problem Pete
I have never seen that before thanks for sharing that.
Yea I even have a windmill powered one that I havent put up yet
Very interesting lean somthing new every day, our ice in the mountains gets that thick in the mountains so it has to be cold cold there . ill bet the summers are nice though.
The ice isnt as thick as I thought it would be though. The summers are hot... just for 2 months only lol
two blissful months
Well thats when its really hot... july and august. Then its cools off gradually
that's really cool, never would have thought that you would have to do that.
Yup.. You would be amazed what it does for the water.
Would be a great way to keep stocktanks from freezing up
Thats a great idea... Those little motors on those compressors probably take half the power than the floating deicers do.
Yeah and if you had a couple tanks close by you could just run an air line to each one of the same compressor probably
Well this set up has 2 lines.. I only use one.. but when you have both going at the same time the air is cut in half. But thats still a pretty good idea...
congrats on the 5k subs. never seen anything like that before then again we get no cold like you. Just plenty of rain
Thanks John.. Yea I guess if you dont get froze over for this long there is no worry about that !
You do any ice fishing up there ? I seen the auger and i was wondering
Not to much.. but there are tons of people on the lake right now...
How big of a pond will that one air stone benefit ? Enjoy your videos!
Umm I forget but my pond or dugout is about 50 x 100 more or less... and about average of 28 to 20 feet deep and its easily airated with that one pump.
Good video. Wonder if that would work to keep a pond open to make it so we dont have to chop ice lol
Lol it would.
i have to ask this question to u-norther farmer--so u can't drill a well for ur house water? like i have down here. isn't their a water table up their??
We can drill a well... but the water is gross... to much iron.
well even around here on account of the coal seams, we still have to have a water conditioner on the water. the iron here is so bad that it comes out of the ground red at lots of places thru out the summertime.
rainwater is the best water source-IMO.
Hi, new sub from Chicago Illinois.
Hey David... Welcome
i got osage in my stove at the moment... we hedge nothing like the bone warming heat of a good wood stove... great idea for your pond i have to have one now because i never thought of doing something like that... thank you for this information
we call it hedge sorry
Yes it should keep the pond water in good condition.. water that doesnt move around gets stale...
Whats hedge?
the old timers around here planted them years ago to make fence posts out of besause it never rotts... its real name is osage its a beautiful yellow wood and puts out more btu burning pound for pound any other wood... its verry hard on bars and chains because its so hard and dence... buggs wont eat it either... i wish i could send you some hedge apples so you could plant some of it... you would never have to buy another fence post...
Ohh ok.. Kinda like tamarach or birch... Birch is pretty had to. That be cool.
That is very cool! 👍
It is hey... :D
Northern Farmeryeah, have heard of air stones they use them in ponds to add oxygen so to keep from smelling like rotten eggs from the plant that are decaying.
Yes... they work the best.
that's a real fine setup bud ty for this vid!
Thanks
so you only have to do it at certain times like just winter or do u do it in spring and summer too
Depends on how big the body of water is... the smaller it is the more you should add air to it.
The summer time wind.. which makes waves is mother natures way of adding oxygen...
That's cool..thank you for answering my questions I watch all your videos ..have a great weekend
Gosh you learn something new every day, are you get older good job as you also forget probably two things . But that was very interesting thanks.
Thanks Andrew... glad you found it interesting
never seen anything like that before thanks for showing
Welcome
Really smart
Thats how it works
do you have the windmill aerators out there??
@ the start of the vlog he told you about it if he has 1 or not have 1
just thought windmill would less fuel or hydro.
You bet.. there are a lot of them that you can see if you take a drive down the road... I have one to but I have just never put it up yet... they dont work pretty good to.. but not as good as a electric one..
the ice here is about 26 to 27 inches, I know it's a good foot, almost 2 feet of ice, Lmao, What?? Haha great Video Tyson you rock!!
Haha I had to go back and watch it again... and yea ... im such a boob...
congrats on your 5,000 plus subs as of now shooting for your next 5 you can do it
Thanks Joe. Looking forward to the next goal
If I go ice fishing there, will I catch anything besides a cold? lol
There is great fishing here .. Im only 10 minutes from one lake.. and a half hour from another.. .all great fishing
wont the hose freeze?
No because the air is flowing through it and it keeps the water out.. if it ever stopped there is a valvle at the stone that doesnt let the water get back in ...
o ok.. :)
The best way is to have the line burried way down below the frost line... but this does alright for now.
it would be the best way, but i'll just take longer 2 get it done.
them adapter....never get the gray ones....they brake....gt the nylon ones....they a bit more but they last forever....SALUTE
I couldnt find one...
same problem here sometimes....SALUTE
You from around high prairie?
You bet
Where you from?
Northern farmer from grande cache, my wife is from high prairie. Probably headed up there in a couple weeks though. To go visit her auntie and uncle
Cool
Much snow there..?
what's the purpose of adding air to water?
I said it in the video.... When the water is froze over it cant get oxygen so the water gets murky and smell...Water with lots of oxygen is nice and clear and tastes good
Might as well toss some fish in there too
haha.. We were planning on doing that at one point
What is name to buy
Koenders from natures pond care
How come you don't have a well for your house? too rocky?
To much iron... the water is gross.. it tastes like you licking a rusty old pipe
Northern farmer Damn, I'm sorry to hear that
Its ok... a Well would be simple.. but this is not bad...
Northern farmer At least you could pressure wash with well water!
I pressure wash with this water....Works great
that was or is pretty cool. I did not know that needed to be done. I learn something new every time i watch thanks. Please check out desertfarmer. congrats on 5000
Thanks Alvin
I have a really small verson for my fish tank
Yup... same deal just on a bigger scale
Oh watch.... someone will drive by and see the bubbles and and say you have a pipeline leak in your slough.
hahah yea
be nice to throw a dairy calf igloo over it
