- To follow my earlier tutorial showing how to add buttons, I thought it would be appropriate to do one on how to make a buttonhole by hand. It's pretty simple, and will protect your button holes from fraying.
MATERIALS USED:

*** The materials listed above are the products I actually used for this project. I find that people often want to know exactly what I use, so I've started including exact links when I can find them. However, it's simply meant as a guide and you can substitute with whatever comparable brands/products you might have available in your own area. Also some of the links may be affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission from the company if a sale is made. It doesn't cost you any extra; it's just a simple way to help support my work on this channel. (I just figured, hey, as long as I was posting the links anyway, I might as well make them affiliate links)

Concise and well explained, good job! There are a lot of tutorials for buttonholes out there that go on for half an hour - for me as a beginner, this here was straight to the point and sufficient to do the job well. Thank you very much!
Thanks, glad you found it helpful 😊
Perfect. I messed up a machine buttonhole and I am trying to repair it. This makes sense to me. Thank you very much!
Glad to help 😊
Thank you. I checked out several videos and yours was the only one that made sense. My buttonhole is perfect!
Glad you found this one easy to understand 😊
cool that a summer cicada is whirring in the background ❤️☀️🌳 thanks for the instructional video!
Yeah, my windows were open when I was filming, and there's a big meadow right outside it, so lots of cicadas out there, lol.
Refreshing my memory, been a while since I made a buttonhole. tyvm!❤❤❤
You're welcome, happy sewing 😊
Thank you so much for your informative video. You are a great teacher, it was easy to follow. I have reattached buttons but have not started a button hole. Thank you so much. 😃
Thanks, glad you found it helpful 😊

very nice tutorial! i recently bought a vintage skirt with a missing button. i’m without my machine, and have never hand-sewn a buttonhole before- your tutorial was so helpful and it came out great 😊 thank you!
Glad you found it helpful in repairing your skirt 😊 That's the best part about hand sewing, you can do it anytime, even if your machine isn't with you.
i always forget how to make buttonholes and keep coming back xDD thank you!!
I had to read the title twice for... reaons
LOL
LOL, yeah, I wondered if anybody would have to do a double take on that title if they read it too fast... 😉
Thank you for a nice short tutorial! 👍
😊
I would have preferred a coloured thread.
Good point. I'll make sure to do that next time so it's easier to see 👍
Thank you very much
😊

Your content is great, but your voice!! ❤
Glad you enjoy it 😊 I'm thinking about maybe branching off and starting an actual ASMR channel if I get enough time, since people keep asking.
The stitches are too far apart
So far I haven't run into a problem with this spacing; the buttonholes have always held up fine. But if you're worried about it not holding up, you can always just make the stitches closer, using the same technique. It's flexible.
The uttonhole looks very frail, homemade and incomplete
It is homemade, so that part makes sense, lol. As for frail, I've honestly never had a buttonhole wear out when I do it this way, whereas the storebought ones wear out fairly frequently. I've generally found this is one of the strongest ways for me to make a buttonhole, but if you have another way I'd love to hear it. Always looking to improve upon my sewing skills.
This is not proper buttonhole stitch, just small blanket stitch. This is not as stable as buttonhole stitch which has a small knot on the edge and id sewn in the opposite direction. Good luck.
Thanks for the info 😊 Though I've never found it to be a problem doing it this way. It's how I was taught and how I've always done it, and haven't had one come apart on me yet. I've even used it to repair buttonholes that came apart on bought items, and it holds well.
