NAMM 2025: Circle Guitar's New Rhythmic Possibilities
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- At NAMM 2025, we caught up with Anthony, who presented the *Circle Guitar*. This innovative instrument features a wheel with plectrums that dynamically strum the strings, offering possibilities beyond human capability. Anthony mentioned the latest firmware update, which now leverages MPE MIDI for controlling wheel speed more dynamically.
The guitar's design incorporates a multi-channel pickup, allowing you to isolate each string's volume. Two modes are available: a Player mode for real-time expression with tap tempo, and a Producer mode using MPE MIDI to enable complex rhythms and programmable gate patterns for creating arpeggios.
Anthony expressed hopes to start with a limited batch release by mid-year, with the vision of making the instrument more accessible through potential licensing. Priced at £9,995 plus VAT, the Circle Guitar is aimed at redefining sonic exploration and expression for a diverse range of guitarists.

I thought this was gonna be a gimmick…. Nope…. It’s actually the coolest and most innovative thing this show has had to offer so far
I was thinking something similar. I don’t know how many guitarists have a bent for something like this, but you’d think that some of the synth guys see the potential.
It's stupid and amazing at the same time. I love it.
Weirdly it is sort of both a gimmick and cool and innovative at the same time. Nothing wrong with gimmicks if you can also do something cool with them.
For years people have been working out ways to make guitars control MIDI , but it takes real genius to come up with a way of doing it the other way around.
Wow. Genuinely the most unique innovation in a physical guitar for a long while
1000x cooler than I was expecting
Psh I can make all those noises with my hands on any regular guitar...
If you pump my heart full of crack to the point where it's about to explode I might be able to nail these fast beats for about a second hahahaha.
i don't think i've ever found myself bobbing up and down with excitement at a NAMM floor demo video before. damn.
what a time to be alive
Why can I imagine Matt Bellamy of Muse hopping on this?? So cool!!
I was thinking MUSE right off the bat❤
Wow - way to think outside the box!! Most creative thing I’ve seen from NAMM!
I watched this video this morning. This thing is so cool. I had to come back and watch it again tonight.
This is seriously amazing.
This could also benefit handicap people with one arm or hand
as long as they are tech savvy too
Not everyone deserves to be able to play guitar.
Exactly
@@Ravejet I admit... I laughed HARD!
@@Rhythmattica as a guitarist who spent 12 weeks in a cast last year - just adapt to something that suits you 😂😂😂
I started playing synthesisers again to pass the time, now my guitars are collecting dust. I am starting to get the itch again though 😂
Finally some real innovation in the market.
This is one of those things where on paper it sounds useless and uninteresting but then you hear it and see what it can do and it blows your mind.
This is beyond amazing. It's the innovation that is long over due for guitars. And OH the irony with the 80s glam metal shredder in the background trying to pulls us back, whilst the circle guitar moves us forward
I prefer the shredding to be honest... this would be a fun thing to mess around with but not a replacement for a normal guitar.
It's an enhancement, for when you want it. You could of course have all faders up, the wheel off, and shred away. 1/4" out to your tube Amp. But the midi control, wheel, etc, enable you to become an arpeggiator, while freeing up a hand for on the fly automation.
I'm genuinely impressed.. that sounds awesome..
Now this is on another level of ingenuity.
If a Concentric Circle Guitar model is released with LEDs spinning all around, I’m all in!
This is super cool! Next-level genius! The shape isn’t quite my style (so different modern shapes would be awesome) but it’s still an absolutely brilliant idea 💡
a modern hurdy gurdy, cool
Omg the BPM drums sync to the RPM wheel on the guitar? Yes please! Now I need 2 of these (and a microphone) seriously
Does it Djent?
har har
Does it Blend?
Ladies and Djentlemen.
No, but it can make modern music 😉
Well that was a pleasant surprise ❤ I think I want a lapsteel version
Holy crap! This is amazing
That thing is wicked cool- I could see Adrian Belew picking one of these up.
Very attractive! Great demo. Crazy!
Wow! Great innovation...
I might have to get this thing. Beautiful, Amazing.
This is sooooo awesome! 'NAMM Best of Show' right here.
surf rock will never be the same
These guys had a prototype video published last year but took it down a couple months after. I'm so glad they're back
this is genius :) the future of guitaring is here
I'd like to see a demo with a great guitar player!!
this is amazing!!
ok, I was NOT expecting this to be cool form the thumbnail, now i want one!
Something different, respect!
Could you program this to only hit three strings but keep the other ones active so you could play by hand on the others?
What does picking with a plectrum and a magnetic pick sound like? (He did show what hand sliding and touching the strings with your fingers did, would it be something similar?)
Could you play tapping, while it has a midi control strumming sequence going? How would that affect it? There’s so many possibilities!
Super Cool!
I Want One!
Pretty cool actually!
that is really neat and creative!
Hi, yes please, I will take one and demo it for you. What a great deal! You don’t have to give me one, lemme borrow it, no wait, I’ll come over to your place and play it, I don’t even have to play it, I could just watch, I don’t even have to watch if I could just be in the same room, not even the same, I’ll stand outside while you describe playing it.
I just really want it.
What? amazing :O
Holy shit… 😅. NOW THAT is really damn cool. That piece he composed for this demo.. soooo cool.! Gave me goosebumps!
This might be a next level guitar like I’ve never seen before in all my 60 years. I want one bad af, wow!
Just amazing!
Super cool! Needs a whammy bar, though.
Impressive✌️✌️
The touch sensitivity of a guitar married with tools of a synth, amazing.
Astonishing 🔊❤️💪🏼🙏🏼
What an amazing toy. I want one now.
Genius idea 😮👍🏿❤
need this
As someone who has Neurological muscle waisting disability this would be amazing… my left hand can go for days on guitar and bass as its not a lot of exertion but my right arm gets wrecked from fine motor shit which sets my arm on fire in a matter of minutes of strumming 😂😂😂
Edit: to me I see it as a somewhat disability friendly instrument… hope to see more instruments like this and even more versatile towards including disabled people 🤙
Looks cool
Will it play Corey Feldman 😊
super cool!
He needs to message muse
Trust me, they are talking.
And Trent Reznor
£10,000 … $12,500 … 😂
A guitar for keyboard players!
Yeah that price is shocking haha. And I'm richer than most saying this...
How much?
Very innovative new guitar. It’s great to see people coming up with new things instead of continuing to make more 1950-1980 designed guitars that flood the market.
Awesome
I want a circle bass
or a circlele
@@deepsoy165 circle piano ?
Yes, ha ha yesss
Yes
YESS! i was trying to build smthg similar. but that magnet thing is crazy. send me one!
Is that a Cycfi pickup? It kinda looks like one. Cool to see one in the wild.
That’s maybe the hippest thing I’ve ever seen at NAMM! How did I miss this!! Next year I hope…
Now, can we get the pickups spinning separetly!?
Yes please
Muse would love this for live
I need this for baba o riley!!!
I assume there’ll be no left handed model; there never is when there’s a really cool guitar
@@Krilium This is why I learned how to play right handed guitars upside down. Makes any guitar accessible now! But its definitely easier when the cutouts are the same on both sides like with an acoustic or something like this
@ True, but that’s not feasible for me as I’ve been playing for 15 years and my career needs me to not have too much downtime. I could restring a right handed and reverse the nut but then the knobs are in the way and there’s no place for the strap! Also it wouldn’t work for asymmetrical pickups. ‘Tis a shame, but once every few years, I see a lefty guitar that really speaks to me and I buy it.
this looks iinteresting. my kinda weird gear.
I think the potential here is huge, but it would have been good if they could have fit a neck pickup between the wheel and end of the fingerboard.
No amount of EQ will make a bridge pickup sound like a neck pickup.
Over the years we’ve seen two schools of research and development: Those that try to emulate humans playing on a physical guitar instrument, and those trying to emulate the sound of humans playing a guitar on a synthesizer / keyboard instrument.
In my opinion, so far, it seems that the keyboard / synth instruments running guitar sound emulations have progressed further than guitar instruments trying to emulate human players on a guitar body instrument.
It would seem that by now developers should be able to isolate and recreate the notes and nuance / articulations on a soft synth platform of all guitars (granted the impulses and articulations would likely create a massively sized library but it should be possible)… whereas the guitar type instruments lag behind quite a bit as developers need to not recreate the guitar sound itself (since the guitar itself is producing the sounds) but they are attempting to recreate guitar player’s hands and hand movements… which is exponentially more difficult IMHO.
wowzers!!!
Crazy. It's like a 21st Century update extension of Godley & Creme's Gizmo. Has anyone told Fripp?
🔥🔥🔥
Analogue Guitar Synth?
Very kool innovative stuff. I wish you the best boss! Even if a lil over 10 grand is a ridiculously high guitar price. I'm richer than most and even I don't spend more than 2000 on a guitar typically so no thanks.
Fingers crossed the wheel doesn't break off some how and decapitate people in the audience hahaha.
"My bf's head was cut off by some kind of fancy toilet seat looking guitar"
Would be quite the story lol
mind blown
Did he say £10k?
Yes. Plus VAT.
@ Jeez!
@@smalltown2223 Makes sense considering how crazy advanced and complex it is. I wonder if wheel greasing over time is a thing that needs to be done. I'm sure it has to right???
You gotta be REALLY into crazy beats and have a good bit of money saved up to make this thing worth getting.
Still kool that it exists though!
@ I like it and I could use it. But a £499 maximum price point is what it should be. The wheel I would imagine works on bushes so wouldn’t need oiling.
This guitar looks like a lot of fun...I hope it goes into production.
very cool.
Robert Fripp would be all over this. He can already do all this on a normal guitar, so I can't even imagine what he'd do on this.
Sooooo cool
Mind blown.
Radiohead will be all over this! I might get one myself.
Wow…..dream machine for us 80's guitar and synth obsessives…
Sick
Can he play just one song ?
this is cool
Feels wild going this far without two octaves.
Is it weird, that I love this weirdness ? A concept that actually is viable........... And looks like a HOOT!
Yaaas
How many directions R left to go with this late 40's invention (electric guitar) I must say this one is dynamic and physical which is a far cry from just a digital program !
Wow this is great ! Maybe just missing a tremolo bar, that could add a lot of possiblities.
Matt Bellamy would do something fun with this!
Fuck Yes!
So I can have a beer at the same time and play flight of the bumblebee.
needs a tele bridge, lol... awesome! gonna get the kids at, look mom no computer, to make-shift me one of these. maybe, I dunno, get a triangle on there :]
3:35 went from 🤷♂️ to 🏄♂️
That's amazing! I don't have a spare 10k for a new guitar that is so specific, but if enough cryptobros buy these maybe the price will come down. Although to be honest, they're not really musicans, just posers, so are unlikely to get something like this. Shame. It's wonderful that someone is doing something new with the guitar.
