I drink soda but stopped drinking Mt Dew because I just preferred dark soda over citrus. Some months ago I'd had a realization that I didn't have mt dew for over a year. So on a whim I tried it again and couldn't finish the can. Holy cow it was cloying. My jaw hurt from it. You don't realize how gross it is (again, this is coming from someone who still regularly drinks soda) when you drink it constantly.
As someone who didn't grow up drinking soda, I feel that way about all of it.
I had 2 years without drinking any kind of soda or gas-like drink, and when I got my first soda, my throat hurt so freaking bad, I didn't drink soda that often back then but I felt so gross after doing it, as if it was a completely different drink. I think I will never enjoy it after that and I'm kinda glad about it, it's not a necessity.
That was me with energy drinks like V I haven't had one in like 5 years I did try one about 3 years ago but couldn't finish the bottle it was gross
I honestly will only drink mtn dew if it's sugar free. Can't trust it, especially with my family history with diabetes
@@Joyful_Traitorsame I just recently tried these new energy drinks and I felt sick even most sodas make me feel like that since I stopped drinking them the only ones I can stomach now is Sunkist and Dr Pepper (mind you I use to HATE Dr Pepper with a passion now I love it🤣)
8:00 Taste tests are done with small samples of each pop. The sweetness of Pepsi isn’t as overpowering in a few sips vs the relative bitterness of Coke being more apparent in a few sips. And people do generally prefer sweet things when taken in small quantities, whereas for consuming larger amounts (like a bottle or can), more people would find them much too sweet.
And blind taste tests can be skewed by many variables (which one is Sample A vs which is Sample B, which one is tasted first, what the taste tester might have eaten before the test, how cold the samples were, etc.).
you should check out the infamous “new coke” story, where they made the formula more sweet based on those taste tests and received huge backlash. one thing is people like the taste of coke because it tastes like coke. people eat things for lots of reasons, beyond if it tastes better/worse than something else.
so the answer to the coke vs pepsi thing is, the blind pepsi taste thing you're thinking of was a pepsi ad campaign. So they highlighted people who prefered pepsi.
I took the pepsi taste challenge and passed. I picked the coke.
I can understand how people would make the mistake though- to me, they tasted very similar, but the pepsi left behind a slightly wonky aftertaste. So if I had had the pepsi first, I might not have realized that was unique to the pepsi and wouldn't have seen a difference.

They found people liked Pepsi if they were drinking a small sample of it vs Coke. Coke did their own challenge where they gave people bigger samples and they found they prefered Coke.

If you're trying to give up soda pop, try switching to flavored seltzer water. If you have a Costco membership, their store brand of flavored seltzer is very nice. Otherwise Bubly and Aha are pretty good.

I found that spindrift is a good step down from soda but not quite as drastic as seltzer. Basically no sugar but at least has like fruit juice in it so there is still actual flavor and not just like essence of fruit

As someone who is allergic to pineapple I technically am lying since I don't stop eating pineapple regardless of being allergic but it's bc of the allergy shots I took for YEARS that it went from possibly severe when I was younger to being at most a mild inconvenience of an itch now as an adult. Same with shrimp. Just pop a benadryl and I'll be fine.

Ok. So regarding the blind taste tests Coke vs. Pepsi, they put the Pepsi on the drinkers' right side. Most people are right handed. They grab the Pepsi first. Pepsi is sweeter than Coke. If you drink Coke right after Pepsi it tastes bitter. I'm a Coca Cola person, but I picked Pepsi when I took the challenge. I figured out why right away.

I prefer coke, they taste very different to me personally. Pepsi feels sweeter but has this weird aftertaste where coke has a little bit of I guess bitter but it's kinda like coffee where the bitter makes the sweetness feel balanced. However, I usually also drink Mexican coke specifically and I think that also tastes different from regular Coke. idk if its all placebo but Mexicoke is made with cane sugar and I feel like the sweetness in it has a similar taste to chewing on cane sugar so it's very nice and a lil nostalgic of being a kid and chewing on cold sugar cane in the summer. Maybe its also just the glass bottle that hits different? I'm trying to cut out soda too but its hard sometimes. My family is from a part of mexico where clean drinking water wasn't always super accessible and coke was something safe to drink and that culture definitely carried over even into the states. So could also just be brand loyalty from growing up.

For me I prefer Pepsi. But only diet sodas. Regular sodas are always way too sweet for me and taste gross.
soda is meant to be filling, that's why they serve it at restaurants & it is mainly popular among the lower class because it is cheap and we eat less food because it is so filling.
soda is 90% sugar which expands the stomach thus is the exact opposite of filling, it makes you eat more food.
