His reason for suicide is very clear.
During operation Bagration he was probably about to be captured, and him being Russian would have suffered greatly

A very interesting perspecitve, indeed. I wonder if this translator went crazy seeing all these atrocities, on the other hand, his fate in the hands of the Bolsheviks would have meant a gruesome death, too. By the way, there were some fractions within the German military and foreign policy apperatus that were against this cruel style of "Vernichtungskrieg" in the East, but they were eventually too few, without meaningful influence and therefore largely ignored or sidelined by the Nazi leadership. Winning the hearts and minds instead of "Vernichtung durch Arbeit" would have prevented the growth of the partisan movement and improved German logistics considerably, especially in Ukraine and other oppressed Soviet republics (such as the Baltics).

Yes. Depressing. "Gulag," "Uncle Vanya" "Love and War." Perhaps Russians are born realists while westerners take advantage of any situation to appease the shallow mind or prove how whimsical they are.@@j.dragon651

I wonder what are the name of the writer of these memoirs, and the title of his book. I would like to purchase it if it is available in French.

Credit it to him for recognizing it, and demonstrating the sincerity of his disgust in about as dramatic a fashion as one can. It would be difficult to know what it meant to remain true to one's country if that country was suddenly seized by gang bolsheviks completely hostile to every institution that had previously defined the country.

@@hatuletoh True heheh at least Bolsheviks did not discriminate and just treat everyone like shit :D at least thats equality. "Darkies" in the USA where forbidden to use arms and had to sit in the back of the bus in the USA after they won the war of freedom and Democracy

What if your obligated by morality and your principals and value as a man to not cooperate with what your commanders have ordered you to do.
I know if my boss told me to go kill a bunch of kids and women, I would refuse and if they decide that I shall be shot unless I comply, then I hope that I will have the strength I believe I would to allow myself to die before being forced into doing evil

Many don't know this but at no point in Russian history nowhere near were there so many collabarotaros and defectors to the enemy. It is up to 1 million only Russians alone, both from abroad and Soviet Union. And that with the fact that most quite much dislike the Nazi party and Hitler personally from the beggining, and later outright revolting against them once the saw all the horrors perpetrated by them. That just tells you how bad it was that people were literally ready to side with the devil himself only to fight against stalin and bolsheviks.

A common theme in this narration , from his Russian perspective , is the chauvinism of the German soldiers . The fanaticism of the indoctrinated nazi soldiers raping and pillaging is especially disturbing .we must learn from these narrations and reflect on how we treat others of different races , creed, etc.

Because people who built an entire industry devoted to one and only purpose - the manufacture of death (Auschwitz may ring a bell) couldn't possibly be monsters.

How is he a traitor? He fought gallantly for Russia & when that country was destroyed by the Communists & transformed into the Soviet Union he left. Lots of Russians fought on the German side in the hope that Communism would be destroyed & Russia reborn.
