Wow....what a great story! He was so lucky he made it all the way back home.
While the narrator's voice doesn't convey this, this person much have had a strong inner strength to be the "fire brigade" and survive captivity....especially being part of the SS in Russian hands.

That colorization in the photo is so damn realistic - like 80 years ago was yesterday. For history buffs and historical education of young people all old WWII footages should be colorized like this.

This is an amazing story of survival. I was stationed in Munchen in 1968. The German girls were still in fear because of the suffering that their moms and grandmas had to deal with during the 1940s. The story of the mom and her daughters is very sad indeed. May the Lord protect their souls in heaven.

They didn't saw suffering IMO. I live here. In bayern. There are no traces today after literally hundreds of KZ around München. In every small village there is a table "Our lost sons in WW1 and WW2", but no mentioning about thousands of Jews, Poles, Roms, died in their Village, in their City, near their homes. All mass graves are today nicely hidden. You won't find them, because Germans don't want to remember their crimes. They like to see themselves as victims. They're not.
Victims are in Concentration Camps in:
      Auschwitz, (With sub Camps)
      Breitenau,
      Breslau-Dürrgoy,
      Esterwegen,
      Kemna,
      Kislau,
      Lichtenburg,
      Missler,
      Nohra,
      Oranienburg,
      Osthofen,
      Sachsenburg,
      Sonnenburg,
      Vulkanwerft,
      Mauthausen,
      Arbeitsdorf
      Bergen-Belsen (with sub camps)
      Buchenwald (with sub camps)
      Dachau (with sub camps)
      Flossenbürg (with sub camps)
      Gross-Rosen (with sub camps)
      Herzogenbusch (with sub camps)
      Hinzert (with sub camps)
      Kaiserwald (with sub camps)
      Kauen (with sub camps)
      Kraków-Płaszów (with sub camps)
      Majdanek (with sub camps)
      Mauthausen (with sub camps)
      Mittelbau-Dora (with sub camps)
      Natzweiler-Struthof (with sub camps)
      Neuengamme (with sub camps)
      Niederhagen (with sub camps)
      Ravensbrück (with sub camps)
      Sachsenhausen (with sub camps)
      Stutthof (with sub camps)
      Vaivara (with sub camps)
      Warsaw
Untill today even SS Soldiers say "We didn't know" it was Nazi who made the crimes... Sounds like Germany was invaded by some aliens from outer space -who called themself "Nazi"
I still think that USAAF didn't bombed them enough in WW2.

It’s understandable that some people haven’t the capacity to think outside of the box that they’ve been brainwashed to believe in, yes we get that, but obviously, you’ll never have the ability to be anything more than a little controlled dweeb who thinks they’re truly smart but really won’t ever know shit.
