Nice video with classic HB narration. To the point as usual. Great idea for using the projector. I just finished building a sign out of 2x4 for a local coffee shop here in Atlanta. As you said the most work is in transfer of text on to the canvas surface. This shop has a unique font so I had to draw and scale on paper each letter, then glue it all onto the wood, then used fine tip router bit to carve the letters edges, then with 1/4' bit hog the rest of it. After aaaaal of that I filled the letter indentation space with coffee beans and pored with resin. All of that thanks to watching one of your older videos. 👍

Ah cedar. Last winter a friend of ours asked me to prepare(ready to assemble,) 45 bee hives out of cedar he'd had curing for the past 15 years, rough sawn in 4 meter lengths. My barn-shop ended up smelling like a cross between my grandmother's interior linen chests(when people didn't store linen in plastic boxes,) and/or a sauna bath. Actually, now that I'm back to playing around in oak, I rather miss the "aroma..." cheers.rr Normandy
Hahaha. This stuff at the box store isn’t aromatic cedar. So while the smell is similar it’s much more muted. Bee hives is a cool thing to make!

Great job as always, sign making has been on my list for a long time but as yet have never attempted it, something always comes along and knocks it down the list before it gets to the top but I do poses a dremmel and some other die grinding bits so it will definitely happen at some time, when that time comes I am sure it won’t be anywhere near as easy as you make it look, I will look forward to the upcoming second video on carving 👌👌👌👍👍👍🇦🇺

No. I used to read Fine Woodworking, and in all honesty will I am confident in my skill set I don't know if it's at that level yet.

Lettering is not my favorite, but I do wish I got more carving jobs. I can throw on a podcast and just zone out. They also take up a lot less space which is nice.

You can use a router..you can remove material quicker. Of course there are many ways to do the same wood working task.
Yes, I have a video on here already showing how to do this with a router.
use the on line program rapid resizer with this on line program that you can set up a paper pattern the program sets up on 8x 10 home printer and resizes to just about any size you could want I do wood carving and use it to enlarge cartums for carvings in wood
Thanks this is a good tip for multiple woodworking uses I think, not just carving. I have done paper pattern transfer s for carving before and still think the projector is easier. But, for people without access to a projector this is a great option.

It’s from Rockler. I have used lots of their products and usually like them, but I don’t care for that feather board. You have to really crank on the knobs in order to get it to not slide in the slot. I mean really really crank on it. I don’t have experiences with other brands but I would think you shouldn’t have to tighten it that much to get it to work properly.
With something like this, with a frame like that with the dado, would weep holes across the bottom be beneficial enough to do?
I don’t think they would hurt.
Really interesting to see how you approach this kind of work as a professional running a business. Do you prefer splines to tongue and groove?
I find splines are easier because it’s just one setup for all the boards. And for the bigger sign I had just enough width, if I cut tongue and groove and lost some width on each board the sign wouldn’t be wide enough.

You may be able to borrow a projector from your local library.
Excellent point, I always forget about what great resources local libraries are.
