  • We install a custom made oak bed in our 1952 Ford F1 field find project truck. We bought the bed strips and the bed board end cap from Dennis Carpenter. We bought the oak 1 X 6 boards and the stainless steel carriage bolts locally. Drilled all of the holes and stained the boards, then installed them.

    WOW!!! I shared this before the wood was even stained. Sure glad I did. Guys, this looks absolutely stupendous and should probably have a few more superlatives attached, but with all the fucking swearing I felt an elongated sentence was better employed, in the hope of electronically injecting some dendrite space into you four. LOL. Kidding, of course. Thanks for the great video and can't wait for the next.

    Awesome stuff guys , bed wood I’ve seen have a routered edge for the bed stripes to help lock in the wood , either way killed it guys 👍🏼👌🏼

  • @micregil
    @micregil 3 роки тому +5

    It looks great guys, and I'm not complaining but I think you were supposed to route the edges of your boards so the metal strips would lay flush with the surface of the boards.

    • @IowaMercMan
      @IowaMercMan 3 роки тому +3

      I’m sure what they did will be fine. Not like heavy cargo going in there. But you’re kinda right. I bought my strips from Mar-K in Oklahoma, they provided pretty detailed measurements for routing grooves that the bottom edge of the strip can catch, which keeps side to side spacing true but still allows adjustment. But the top of the strip is not supposed to be flush with the wood. You can find the instructions if you snoop around on their site.

    • @pennyshotrodscustoms
      @pennyshotrodscustoms  3 роки тому +2

      We decided not to router out for the strips. The truck will never haul anything.

    Hey Guys. I will be boing my wood bed in a month or so. I better pay attention eh? WHY DID YOU HAVE SOME BOLTS GO THROUGH THE WOOD? ARE THEY TO HELP KEEP THE BED SQUARE OR SOMETHING? Where did you get your bolt pattern from? I would like to have things ready for when I do mine. Great job doing the guys. Thanks for sharing.🍁👍👍

    • @pennyshotrodscustoms
      @pennyshotrodscustoms  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you for watching Andy those bolts went threw the wood to the main supports underneath. The bolt patterns where just from the new strips we bought for it. There are many different ways you can do it. Just take your time Andy im sure youll do a great job.

    Turned out awesome! One thing about these year of trucks, the beds were works of art. I thought the bolts that mounted the bed down via the middle of the planks had larger supporting washers on top to keep the carriage heads from pulling through over time? Or was that the later years? Looks good fellas! V8 emblem is a nice touch!
