- If you can't afford Prismacolor pencils you will be shocked at what I found. The Amazon Brand of pencils match identically to Prismacolor colors. I have included a comparison list and they match 100%.

@@karenharris9903 what if you just don’t have the money for prisma colors or need to save for something more important? I understand what Amazon is doing is wrong, but sometimes people have to pick the cheaper option for personal reasons.

I bought these they are really lovely.
I have both Amazon Basics and Prismacolors. The colors may match, but the quality really doesn't. The pigment is not nearly as rich, and although they are buttery they can't compete with Prismacolors. Also their colofastness is not artist grade. I've swatched all of the colors for both and there is definitely a big difference.
I agree. They are second to prismacolor, but for those who like to follow tutorials and can't afford Prismas they are close enough.
I have had the Amazon ones for a bit now and I also noticed that they are really close to the Prismas, I never bothered to match them but its good to know that they really do match. The Amazon ones are pretty good and the price is really good so if you can't afford Prismas then theses are a good option. The only problem I had was that one of my Amazons one core was off center and didn't sharpen well. I have never had that happen with Prismas, though I know others have had that problem.
Imagine if Amazon came out with a 150 set? I lucked out by nabbing a 72 set on the Canadian site last week. Now it is sold out again!
They only have the 48 here. I want another 72
The thing is during the Pandemic they basically had the 24 set, maybe 48. I ended up buying several 72 sets at about $40 CAN to donate to kids.
A 150 set would be awesome. I've been om the fence with buying prismacolor pencils I want to but something is just like hold on..

@@m.ramsey6396 - What? You're not being ripped off. Do you have any idea how much time and money goes into providing quality products? You're deluded if you think cheaper is better. There's a difference between cheap & value. Cheap usually means a product that will break down sooner or offer shitty service, whereas Value is a quality investment that will stretch your dollar in the long run & offer outstanding customer satisfaction. It's bc of sweatshops in China and underpaid workers in the US that you see cheap products get pushed out just so you save a buck.
It gives you the illusion of saving money, but what happens is that these monopolies end up taking over once they force other businesses into bankruptcy. Without competitors, these cheap production companies get bigger, charge more, and pay workers the same. Amazon will have so much power that they'll be able to manipulate the market. In fact, they're already doing that. They've forced small businesses into bankruptcy, and you can't have a healthy economy without small businesses & entrepreneurs. If all you have is conglomerates, then the wealth isn't spread out enough to ensure businesses are taxed & spending back into the economy.
Big conglomerates would rather avoid taxes & spend money on lobbyists to reduce regulations, abuse loopholes, abuse tax write-offs, get free subsidies, manipulate stock value & create inflation, hoard their wealth off-shore, etc. Oh and they'll buy elections. That's exactly what Jeff Bezos tried to do in NY and in Seattle. Bill Gates himself admitted he didn't need to run for president, bc he already has way more power to move the political chess pieces. Don't for a second think that saving a few dollars won't hurt us in the long-run. In fact, our obsession with cheap products and services is exactly why everything is poor quality and comes from China. We no longer have American made products anymore, and it's bc of people with your mentality.

This makes sense. Every company that has a "store brand" has someone make their products for them... and if they have good "store brand" products, then those "someones" are good brands... and are often the good brand in a "store brand" wrapper. Sometimes there might be slight changes, but sometimes the products are exactly the same. Which is why some "store brands" are so good.

I did obtain this set and they work well. Your work on the page with high lights was impressive working on her dress, just gorgeous. These are great pencils.

I recently found out about the amazon colored pencils and have heard nothing but positive things. Will buy them in the future but not right now.
They are a good alternative to Prismacolor but if you already have Prismacolor they don't bring much to the table being they are duplicates. Then again, the quality of Prismacolor has really gone down so it may be a really good alternative.
@@ColorMyWorld I`m not really a prisma color fan. To me they are just fancy crayola colored pencils that break. I know they are soft core but its not a good excuse for the wood to be crappy.
Actually the Prismacolor Scholars are really very good too, and they actually do have some colours that the Premiere set don't have.
Right now the Scholars cost as much as the Premier
I just bought the 60 Prisma Scholar. They are very soft, feels like a crayon, My first set was from AMAZON branded Artlicious. It's a hard pencil with a nice point. I can't get the Prisma to get sharp. Anyway, I;m still a newbie so I'm trying all of them

Hi Lori. Having seen this I kinda wish I had held off buying my Prismacolors. That's crazy! Thank you for sharing the tip about labeling pencils. There are a few of mine that I can't make out the name on them. (Some were stamped in to the pencil deeper than others. Maybe I'm being too picky but I was a little disappointed with that considering the cost.) Thank you!
I have terrible trouble reading foil on pencils. I wish they would just use black and white.
The positive side to buying Prismacolor is the ability to replace used up pencils through open stock.
@@sassybanjo3586 true. That's a huge plus. I can't remember where but I saw online where you can also buy packs of a single color. They have many pluses. Had I not found them on Amazon for $80(ish) through Lori at Color My World I wouldn't have purchased them....not the 150 set anyway.
i just amazon searched it and it did not show up ...so i used the link you provided and they were out of stock . I bought them anyways and am supposed to be charged and receive them as soon as there back in stock ! Got my fingers crossed Thanks !
The 120 set is on sale for $59 due to the controversy around these pencils. Some dissolve when wet, but a lot of cheaper pencils do the same.
Some very high quality, very expensive pencils also dissolve when you get them wet. Whoever made that complaint about the Amazon pencils doesn't know much at all about expensive pencils. What controversy? There is none, except from Prismacolor fans who hate the fact that Amazon decided to copy their favorite pencil. Amazon makes a pencil, They use the same pigments from the same source as Prismacolor. They sell them cheap. A LOT of people, including professional artists, like them. So where's the controversy? This is simply business. Amazon has a product for sale. If you like it, you buy it. If you don't like it, you don't buy it. That's all there is to it.
I have both of them and think Amazon pencils are really good for price.

I got my Amazon Basics coloured pencils today and I got the Faber Castell eco pencils metallics, and I swatched the metallic pencils and they really look metallic and I used white printer paper, if I had of used black, it would have popped

The Amazon basic colors are numbered and identical to the Marco Raffine' 72 set. I have them both. Did a side by side color chart. They are identical. The Marco's are oil based the Basucs are waxy.
How old are your sets because they are nothing alike now. I have both and they are pretty new. This doesn't mean in the past they were not alike. Pencil sets change like the wind changes direction.
@@ColorMyWorld Marco Raffine' is 2 or 3 years old. Basics is several months.
@@mindylafler3456 I am having a hard time seeing why you believe they are one in the same. They don't look alike, they aren't created from the same cores. One is oil, one is wax. Help me understand. Are you just judging the colors?
@@ColorMyWorld the color numbers are the same, and the colors are the same. The cores are different formulas, but the sets I have, have the same colors, with the same corresponding number.
@@mindylafler3456 They could have gotten the numbers from the pigments. I never even thought of looking because they are so different. Remember in China they get their parts from all the same manufacturers. One place may supply cores but supply cores to 100 places that manufacture barrels and then those pencils are sent out to yet other places that package them and distribute them to retails. It's the supply chain.
I used a label maker with a 1/4 inch tape in it to re-label the pencils. Worked great, and the label is small and removable if need be.

They are so close in color to the prismas that I gave them away. Not because I didn't like them. I did very much, but they are oil and prisma is wax. They color slightly differently so I kept getting them mixed into my prismas. They went to a good home. The nice thing is you can follow any Prisma color along or use any prisma color combo.

The drawback to buying these pencils, is no open stock.
The open stock would be the prismacolor pencils since they are almost identical in color. You just replace like you would a prisma set.

Lori this is so awesome. I am always looking for a good "practice set" because I hate wasting my Prismas. Currently, I practice with my Cezanne but they are not soft or buttery like Prisma. I can't wait to get these ;)
These are not soft or buttery like Prisma, but they were fantastic color matched and did a good job coloring. They make perfect practic pictures when you want to use prisma colors. I was totally blown away by them. Best lower priced set of pencils I have tested.

I bought a set a couple of years ago, I have gone back and I can’t find them on Amazon anywhere! Australia, USA, UK no sign of them. I wanted another set, what is the story o these? Did Prismacolor shut them down? Have they stopped making them? WHY?

I have said this before but if Amazon makes 150 😢 sets Prisma is out of business.
The colors match already. The texture isn't the same, but if you get used to the Amazon brand you can produce anything Prismacolor does. Personally I like Prismacolor better, but it's just what I am used to.

I tried to find the entire list of comparisons colors but couldn't find it. I believe it was mentioned it should be on Facebook. Is there somewhere I can get access to this? I like to follow along with coloring videos, but they are always Prismacolors. Just starting out and am trying to make it look better than a 3rd grader. I caught a lot of the comparisons from the video but am missing a few.

Practically everyone that has these really really like them, from what I have seen. Saw a review of them 2/3 weeks ago by someone who sells their art, has over a million subscribers, is a Prisma gal all the way and she was also shocked.....
I hadn't heard anything about them at all so this came as a complete suprise. Tracy just said I should try them. She didn't say anything about them except they were a good price. I am so glad I got them.
I'm pretty sure I know who you mean. She sai they were nearly identical. The Amazon pencils have a slightly harder outer shell, but that is intentional, and I love it. My problem with Prismacolor is how fast they wear down. The Amazon shell takes just a little more work, but you still get the same vibrant colors, and the pencils last me longer than Prismacolor pencils.
Truth be told, I prefer Cran d'Ache, but the cost is staggering, and they really aren't worth it, in my opinion.
This much I know. Anyone who can't do professional level art with the Amazon pencils has no reason to blame the pencils. The artist is at fault, not the pencils.

I think this is really wonderful especially for young artists living in countries where Prisma is either hard to find or impossible for them to afford.

They are not as soft as Prismacolor Premier however they can maybe replace the Prismacolor Verithin pencils.
Christmas 2019 72 set was $25.99 CAN. Christmas 2020 $39.99 CAN, still waiting for them to drop the price.
Dearest Lori, its not like you're not swamped or anything, but..... Since you plan to do the book for Polychromos and for Schpirerr Farbens do you have a way to cross reference these two sets in this same way, so that those who have "Special Farbens" can replace them with the Polychromos open stock. If they are as compatible as the Prismas and Amazon Basics, It would be a perfect way to build a set as you said. Just wondering...
Doing comps is really slow work. Schpirerr is in the works. Poly will take me some time.

@@bebepreps3970 I bought a new set. My set is old. I bought the 150 set and I will find the closest match. I don't know if they will fully match but I will get as close as I can get. Enough to come close enough. My original set doesn't have pencil names and the number system changed.

It's not coming out until the beginning of January, but I will send it out to you priavely through email. Wait for the announcement and instructions. The Pencil list is growing so I decided to wait to put it out until I had all the pencils in my hands. This way I don't have to make that many revisions each time I add a pencil. I have around 7 sets now going on it and it's growing.
@@ColorMyWorld Hi Lori thank you for the response. I joined FB again just to follow you and Jennifer at Coloring Bliss so I can get it in Jan and be more involved in the coloring community. Until then I will use your video to try to find the comparisons. I am helping my daughters organize their new Amazon pencils according to the Prisma tritones I use. I so appreciate this video. My girls love their new pencils and it was an affordable way to allow me to get them involved in coloring. Hope your holidays are well ;)

Omg! I have prismacolor pencils, but im a pencil "junkie." My favorite pencils are a wax based pencil... and they truly are budget friendly pencils . Im talking about the professional range of Shuttle Art pencils. Couldn't live without them ! Lol

No, I am not Italian but I came from Long Island so I have a heavy NY accent that most people outside of NY think is an Italian accent. I don't know if they have watercolor pencils. I only tried the wax ones.

In a few more videos for the Comprehensive lessions I am doing fabric. I am going to teach it so it's easy. There is a certain laydown that if you follow it always works. It's going to be a good lesson.

Tired of trying all these pencils and they kill my hands... Lol because u have to press hard to get pigment.... I need advice!! Love that you did this video!! Thanks I love your videos
You can always return them if they were on Amazon. If I had to choose between them I would get this because following tutorials are almost always done in Prismacolors. These are prismacolor with a drop harder wax. Shuttle art pencils aren't that good or at least not like these.
@@ColorMyWorld I have prisma premier ones two of the 150 set plus spares... They just arrived oh nooo wonder what they are gonna be like and true if I don't like them I can return them and exchange for the Amazon ones!!
I have to press much harder with the Amazon but, they layer much easier and their colors compare to Prismacolor when you blend.
@@GettysburgGal so the shuttle art are really soft like prismas and they blend beautifully like prismas and with prismas
@@jamiefugate8758 they maybe soft but to apply the initial color I have to use much harder pressure to get a light base coat. But, as I build and layer less pressure and they are very much like Prismacolor that way. I almost sent them back because it is a learning curve with me using them. Prismacolors are so soft and easy and delightful. I do get a lot of wax pieces with the Prismacolor which I do not get with the Amazon. The finished picture with the Amazon is as bright as the Prismacolor and that I really like.

Hi Lori been away for a long while. Lots of medical issues. Back decided to push in towards my stomach in about 5 vertebrae and caused terrible pain 😢 can't hardly walk when it gets really bad. If I carry my 9 lb dog and walk my right side starts cramping and can't walk at all. Then started having trouble breathing like asthma but when I stopped it stopped but I was going to physical therapy for my back and it quit when I wasn't doing any little exertion. I wasn't having trouble just walking inside my house. But then started feeling like someone was pushing their fist below my breasts between my ribs so finally went to the doctor. Took my 02 sat it was 90. I said what? What is happening she said need some tests done now. Did chest xray and labs. Labs showed inflammation she thought it might be a pulmonary embolism. I said what? She wanted me to go to the E.R. since it was Saturday. They admitted me. 02 sat was 88 there. After tests for 2 days my heart is the problem. I had Acute heart failure. They took off 2 liters of fluid. The left side of my heart is stiff it's not pumping fluid off like it should. I still can't use my hands for much arthritis has really messed them up. My writing hand is worse than my left can't open anything 🙃 not even my pill bottles anymore so been pretty bad don't get on my phone often but always save your videos just incase one day I can color again. Hope your family and you are doing well with not getting COVID. My youngest daughter and her fiance got it in March were down for a couple weeks so sick coughing high fever. Her 3 kids just lost their taste. Her 4th daughter came home to take care of them and take care of her siblings while Mom got better. My other daughters and grandchildren have been just fine. Amen. They tested me for both the flu and COVID in the E.R. both were negative thank goodness. I stay inside my house so didn't think had a way of catching anything. God bless you and your family. 😁❤
OMG Brenda!!!! What an ordeal. I knew I haven't seen you in a while. I had no idea. We went though a few covid scares here. My son in law got sent home from work because he was in contact with someone who wasn't an employee but was at the company the day before and he tested positive later that day. So my Son in law and daughter had to get tested and stay out of work. It's crazy! Thank goodness they have hope for a vaccine or the world is fudged. I can't believe the numbers lately. We are all in for a long Christmas vacation as the country shuts down again. Our state stores are already starting to limit buying certain items. Well I am glad you caught me up with things. @@ColorMyWorld We just heard on the news they are limiting paper products and meat and milk because don't want what happened before nothing in the stores. So hopefully can keep supplies this time. When I did get to the store in late April had absolutely nothing no paper supplies no good meat not even in the freezer. I had no toilet paper I had to use napkins until I could get out again and the store just got a truck in. So got some toilet paper. I was so grateful. I live in Indiana. Our counts are awful. My doctor sent me home because I am immunosuppressed he didn't want me getting it. Between my Internal medicine doctor and my Cardiologist checking my 02 sats and watching my labs every couple weeks hopefully I will be in good hands. They are also going to try to put in a pain pump for my spine help with my pain getting so bad to get around. Hopefully that will help me out.
