- In this clip from www.artistshousemusic.org - Guitarist and songwriter Ray Parker, Jr. has had a long and varied career as a guitarist backing up the Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Spinners and Gladys Knight and the Pips; as the leader and chief songwriter for the chart-topping group Raydio; and as a writer of hit songs for artists like Rufus and Chaka Khan, Diana Ross and Barry White. He has also had a successful solo career, most notably topping both the pop and R&B charts in 1984 with his performance of the theme song from the film Ghostbusters.
Ray Parker Jr., a musician and entertainer from Los Angeles, talks about his career and about being a musician.
Humility is indeed the foundation of humanity. This iconic figure exemplifies that trait. Kudos Mr. Parker you are one of my true inspirations.
Awesome! So many people don't even know he ever existed and he is one of the greats!!
Never heard Ray interviewed. Man he's a cool dude. Lots of wisdom and advice. I like him a lot more now.
Ray Parker, Jr. ⟶ accomplished musician, cool and elegant gentleman.
Wow, Ray is *dropping jewels.* If you are an indie artist you should definitely take notes.
He is BEAUTIFUL! Wow.
That guitar riff on You got the love with Chaka Khan and Rufus.

I enjoyed this interview as I think he was very humble during this entire thing.
His only brother and I are long time friends. Now he is VERY much a family man. I've enjoyed his concerts when he was with his group Raydio and his solo career. I remember when he bought the house for his parents in Southfield an exclusive upgraded area in Detroit. I'm glad he's doing well and I wish he and his family nothing but the best. 🤗 He truly deserves everything he has because he earned it.
Excellent Interview...
Someone posted the following comment here, over a year ago, and it applies to me as well:
"I was curious about his interview, and was only going to watch a few minutes of it. But I found myself listening to the whole thing. Ray Parker really is a down to earth guy."
I know these comments are over a year old but I wanted to say I agree with your comments...he's a class act!
@@carlbenson6412 He's definitely more than the Ghostbusters theme man!
Ray's guitar playing on Marvin Gaye's song "I Want You" is a thing of beauty.
I'm totally inspired listening to Ray Parker Jr. Not only is he one of the greatest musicians, but he's a cool dude! Great interview for those stuck in dead end jobs.
I find him more handsome now than back then in the 70s and 80s. I wish they would have had in depth interviews like this with artist of the past. Makes them so reaI, and approachable. Takes them off the pedestal fans put famous people on. I really felt like I understood more of his personality and charm, as well as his intellect!! A very likeable guy!!! Kuddos Ray!!
He is too.

intelligent man..i've loved his music since i was a kid.
I saw his Unsung on TVOne. He was very protective of the music he wrote and because of that he is still very wealthy.

Such a lot of great insight and advice for not only music - but for life too! Whatever you want to do, go after it full force. Even if it fails, you'll atleast know you gave it your all - and that will always give you the courage to try again, try something else, whatever...just keep moving forward like the general he spoke of!
I was a big fan of his as a teenager. I loved his voice and James Ingram too! I've recently been listening again to a lot of the 80s R&B...aah memories! So glad Mr. Parker is happy and healthy and still sharing his gifts with us 💕 Thank you!
ray will aways be one of my favorites, great songwriter, great producer, great guitar player also really down the earth...
This guy is literally a musical genius. IMO he's right up there with all the greats and if you've listened to the radio for about the last 40 years he's written a significant number of the songs you grew up with.
My deep respect for this guy for being so real.
3:22 When he said "I'm going to play you the rhythm track for Superstition") I had said to myself "Stevie is going to start singing "Superstition"
True and very cool :-D
Incredible interview on perhaps the most underrated Pop/Soul/R&B artist of all time. The list of legendary musicians he's written for, or collaborated with, is incredible.
And the list of musicians who grew up in or lived in the metro Detroit area is insane. Very cool.
Very Inspirational 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿

I absolutely enjoyed this, and found myself sitting here at my desk acting like a church-congregation member... "well..." "go head, brotha.." "preach the word!" ..etc. ..lol.. What a down-to-earth, intelligent, thoughtful, and knowledgeable guy.
I grew up listening to Ray Parker Jr and Raydio. I so enjoyed this interview, not only is he so talented and humble but has very deep understanding the music business .

@@sonquatsch8585 😀😀👐🏼
Hugely inspiring Producer, Musician and a fab human being. His name on the countless credits are just a testament to his giftings as a in demand session player as well. Fully packaged!
Ray is not only an accomplished guitarist, but he is also a tech geek and private pilot. I remember when we connected over a decade ago he had Cisco setup in his home with servers. He was also into programming. Really smart guy!
San Pedro fish business purposes
Wow, what a cool, guy. Great interview Ray, thanks for your candor.
From the moment I listen to Ray's music and saw his videos, I thought to myself, what a cool and smooth musician. He and many other Detroit artists, grew up a stone's throw from my neighborhood. What a humble, and ageless man. Kinda like Billy Dee Williams! 🙏
wow everything I didn't know about him! Loved all the Raydio tunes from late 70's.
Top singer and handsome man 💖
From humble beginnings, great things can happen 👏😎👍
True artist. Much love Ray.
Ray has always been an idol of mine and someone as a kid I looked up to and emulate. He has always been a positive roll model. I really appreciate hearing his advice.
Fine as Wine. I Love me Some Him 😍😍😍😍😘😘😘😘😘😘😘💜💜💜💜😘😘😘
I love you!! I am so in love with you your songs are great
Been a fan of Ray since 1978. Back then, Ray music was not like others. He had his own sound. some of my favorite song to this day is Rock On, A woman needs Love , Two Places At the same time. I still have those original albums today.
This is good stuff. I made my son watch this video. Ray is telling it like it is. Ray's advice is applicable to other arts as well. Thanks so much Ray.
Ray, you got a very interesting musical background. What more can I say, but I love your "Ghostbusters" theme song. You are a very down to earth kind of guy.
A fascinating interview featuring one of the best, if not THE best, rhythm guitarist in history!!!
Ray Parker Jr. man you still are so handsome 😍. Such a wise man with wonderful advice to the beginners and up comming stars 🌟. Such a beautiful smile still.
Ray is a very smart guy!
Seems like a really down to earth cool guy.
I just love your song you can't change that Ray Parker I still listen to it everyday
Ray drop'n major music game, he's giving you a PhD to be an independent artist.
I love you forever your songs make me cry don't know, why maybey cause I go back in the pasr.
This might have been the best spent half hour in my life. This guy puts more wisdom in one sentence than Kaye West has ever strung together in his entire life. Yes, I am that frustrated old guitarist that has always said he could do it. I am 55 but still feel life hasn't really started yet as I have not gone out there and do what I have always believed was inside me. Ray Parker Jr, you're more inspirational than anyone I have listened to before. This interview should be used in all music lessons around the world!!! BTW, what an incredibly nice guy he is. One of the most genuine celebs. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Mean cold the truth is always wonderment of the day works
this is a great interview... experience
What a great guy! My favourite was Jack and Jill. Raydio.
mister parker looks younger than 25 years before in the Ghostbusters 1984
Gonna say it now not even half way through, this is genius. Wish I had seen this a long time ago. Bill Withers is another guy I could listen to all day, wisdom and thankfulness from these Motown legends.
Great guy..I can still listen to Raydio today
It was always there inside you it activated when it was time! LoL Love this interview especially when you talk about your father. PEACE! Love your interview Ray
A Good Son.. He care for his family and specially his Dad.
AMEN, every impression can be your first AND last, always perform your best!
That was a great teacher! We need more of them like that who really invest in their students!
