  • In this video I am installing a gear reduction high torque starter on a John Deere 2955. As some older Deere tractors age, they develop internal and external hydraulic leaks that cause the hydraulic pump to stay in the stroked position all the time. This also occurs during the starting process which adds extra strain on the engine starter and causes the starter to turn slow and sometimes prevent engine startups. The starter I installed worked out great and even started the tractor one morning in the 20's (temp) without having the coolant heater plugged in.
P.S. - I am not affiliated with AJ Electrical. I just like to share experiences with stuff that works.

Do you know if a 2550 can get the same modification

It does work. AJ-electric website doesn't show 2550 on the list of tractors this fits but it fit mine. tractor seems to be cranking a lot better so far

Good deal! Hope it works out! My starter seems to be holding up well still. Fingers crossed!
