The only place I turn to on the internet for help in fixing my Volvo myself is here and to Robert. ONCE AGAIN.... ROBERT SAVED THE DAY! I was experiencing the frustration of random stalling. I knew it could be a variety of things, but didn't know where to check first. After watching this video I quickly made myself a squab (jump) wire, pulled my relay, and let the car run. It did not shut off so I went to work ordering one right away. Advance Auto wanted about $66 for my 1998 V70 AWD, while AutoZone was around $47. I had it same day, easily replaced it (as easy as replacing a light bulb at home) and the next day confidently drove it out of state with about a 400 mile round trip. It did NOT STALL and has not stalled since. Robert, you are worth your weight in gold and just an all-around nice guy (whom I have even had the pleasure of chatting with on the phone). Robert you are the man!!!!! Thanks to you, I finally figured out my weird starting problem with my 1997 Volvo 850 wagon!!!! It was the fuel pump relay! Its been so frustrating because it would start fine but then if I drove it for a bit, stopped and tried to start it again, it would't start. If I then waited about a half hour, it would start again. But this would only happen when it rained out. I got stranded so many times waiting for it to start again. I replaced the fuel pump relay and drove around all day in the rain today with no issues restarting it. I've been trying to figure this out for a long time. I'm a 51 year old woman with not a lot of money to go to a mechanic so THANK YOU SO MUCH, ROBERT!!!!
I can't believe I waited suffered for the last couple of years with intermittent stalling. Leave it to the Black Swede to come to the rescue. Mechanic says my fuel pump is operating about 90%, so I doubt that's the reason. Relay testing sounds like the first thing to check. Thanks, dude.
thanks to you I just bought a 1998 Volvo S70 with a stalling issue and your video fixed it up. previous owners had put thousands into this problem and you fixed it for some scrap copper wire. Bought the car for 500 bucks and I owe you a six pack my friend. Thank you thank you thank you.
Thank you Robert! My 99 xc70 had intermittent stalling, hard starting and sometimes wouldn’t start at all. It ended up being the relay, it looked brand new but when I jumpered it like you suggested the car fired right up. Thanks again for all your helpful videos over the years. If you’re ever in the Massachusetts area, I will buy you a nice dinner 🍻
Just about to try this in my '99 S70. It died on me yesterday afternoon. The engine quit on me in town, but I was able to restart it straight away. I had presence of mind to come home at that point (about a 20 minute drive) and the car drove normally. After stopping the engine while I took a few things out of the car, tried to start it up again, and this time, nothing doing. I studied the repair manual, which tells you almost nothing, but wiring diagram shows the circuit very clearly. I was just a bit dubious about hitting the pump with a constant 12v supply, but from your video it looks like the pump won't suffer in the short term, so that's what I plan to do.
Thank You Robert! I am still redoing vacuum leaks, but I will check the fuel relay and go on to your other suggested videos today! You are the first person I turn to when I need serious help with my 94 650 wagon. I will be sending a donation.
Robert: thanks for this series of videos, I have learned a lot that I wish I know when I owed an S90. Never needed to work on my 245. In any case, now I've got an 1988 S70 GLT that has been nothing but a headache. Drove well for a year after buying with 180K, but for the last 6 months its been noting but CEL, trips to the mechanic, and then new problems arise. Latest issue is random stalling when the weather gets hotter (over 80 degrees). In recent weeks I've replaced the plugs, rotor, distributor cap, plug wires, coil and just yesterday, the infamous fuel pump relay based on your video. It was NOT a Volvo part, but a Kaehler unit. Now random stalling has increased to the point where if it's over 80 degrees, stalls almost immediately while cooler temps seem to let it drag out a bit. I wait a bit, (higher temp dictates longer wait), and car starts up but then stalls again almost immediately. No codes display, just the cryptic '0 dtc' on my $29 Autozone OBD reader. Very occasionally I get the P0455 code, which I think is the J&L hoses located in the trolls-only service area.
Yes to jump wire (started, ran 5 min, stalled), yes to battery cables, watched the failing fuel pump video. You are a funny guy! Yeah, I've got the 225K miles, but car ran like a rocket ship after the recent tuneup, and always started (before it started to stall). Time for a trip to the junkyard, but if I can't find an OEM pump and fuel relay, will got to Amazon. However, I took a look at your other video about the things to look for when buying a S70. Timing belt has over 100K. AC is toast. Think I'm going to push to the back of the yard with the other projects, and take a flyer on a newer car. Once I get the current project out of the garage, this would probably be the next one. Thanks again for all the useful videos, Robert. All the Volvo mechanics in Maine I knew retired once they started bringing out the newer cars, or stuck to 240's
Thank you for your helpful video. I replaced a faulty fuel pump relay on an '04 C70 with little effort. I also like how you do not talk down to anyone.

U R the Best! Thank you. My 2004 C70 has some issues but I think that the knowledge you share is focused and directed. Knowledge is power. You are concise and do the steps in a logical order so they are easy to follow. Locating the Fuel Pump relay was a big issue for me. Now we will see if that is the problem or if Valentina needs a new fuel pump!
Thank you so much Robert. Your videos have been a huge help with my '96 volvo 850 turbo. So far I've done my own fuel pump and my blower motor with your help. Thank you.
+Robert DIY so I just did my fuel pump last fall, went to start my car yesterday and seems like it's not getting fuel. I just checked my relay with the wire connecting 87 to 15 and still no turn over. When I turn the key I can hear my pump kick on. Not sure what else to do. Please help.
Good Work!! I've had two Volvos that stalled going down the road...FINALLY traced it to the relay... I use to jump out of the car , pull the relay, blow on it to cool it....put it back in, restart the car and way we go. It was not fun on the freeway around Denver. It was the 740 and then the 850. Now I have a S60 No relay problems yet
Good job sir. Been troubleshooting 84, 245, intermittent no voltage to fuse #5, no voltage to hot side , tried jumper from buss side, still no start now. Had meter holly up when it would start but now failed completely. Old swiss friend, 83, and myself doing relays test next, lots of visual here! Hats off to your style and shade tree mech work. And, now I'm thinking, to replace any and all parts for the future, he uses is his Volvo everyday, and it's car ported.
🥇Thank you, really a lot, for your videos' collection about Volvo 850. They helped me many times with my 850 T5. Greetings from Italy! /🥇 Grazie mille, sinceramente, per la tua collezione di video sulla Volvo 850. I tuoi video mi hanno aiutato molte volte con la mia Volvo 850 T5. Saluti dall'Italia!
Robert thanks so much buddy your videos are just so simple and thorough. After so much headache, i finally replaced the fuel pump regulator and the car is going. 130,000 on this engine, it's practically new! Lol. Still needs a good amount of tlc but i can feel the promise! Thanks man!
Hi Robert. Your videos are a great help to me. My 91 940 turbo had the exact hot engine start problems as yours. Even though another guy made a video about changing the fuel pressure regulator which was my problem I wouldn't have seen it unless I followed you. Thanks again Robert
Thanks for this video. My 98 S70 refuses to start right now. It will turn over all day and just won't kick over. For a while it had been starting only on the second try, like clockwork. Fuel pump does work (I can hear it humming) so this might be it. I'll have to try that out. Thanks.
I have an issue with my Volvo v70 2000 mod. It sometime starts, and sometimes when i turn the Key very fast It starts but dies. I have changed the spark plugs, air filter Oil filter and gasoline filter, but still i have the issue. Now i Will try to change the relay. Thank you so Much for this video, you are Great at explaining and i have seen alot of your videos. I wish i Had someone here in Norway that could teach me everything you know about cars and how to fix them. You are Great.
Hi Robert! You are a huge blessing sir! I recently bought a 97 850 and a few days after the car shut off. Got it fired back up but sputtered and lost power, then died. Beat on trunk floor and fired back up. No real issues for about a month other than occasional sputter. Yesterday I left car on while I went into the store, came back out and car wasn't running. Let it sit about 4 hours and came back. Beat on floor...nothing. Then beat on floor while a friend turned over. It fired up! Barely made it to my driveway and she died in my driveway. Wouldn't fire again. I'm hoping it's the relay! I will let you know if this fixed me up. BTW....check engine light stays on but no codes at AutoZone. Service light is intermittent
BINGO! This was exactly what was wrong with my 99 Volvo V70 GLT. Stalled and started & drove 75 feet, stalled, started & drove 100 feet, stalled, started then ran fine. A couple of days later, it would not start at all (good thing I already had it towed to the shop as I'm not mechanically inclined). Shop tested it pretty much like above (fuel pump worked once the relay was out and jumped like above), they replaced the fuel pump relay and #BackInBusiness! Will keep a jump wire handy from now, though, thanks!
had this issue a few months ago, didn't know what was going on but she wouldn't start. Every time I go to the junkyard now (which I go to with confidence because of these videos) I take the fuel pump relays to carry in my glovebox just in case
Robert, listen I’m traveling in souther Calif from Washington state. My 97 850 is now not starting again. I’d jumped the relay as posted in your video and it ran fine for 3 days. I located a new relay and installed it. And ran for a few days. Well now it’s doing the same thing. So I am back to the jump wire on the fuel relay but it’s intermittent starts and won’t keep running. For the life of me I can’t get this figured out. I’m stuck quite literally trying to make it back to seattle. Anything you could suggest would be appreciated.
Hey Robert, i have the issues listed above in my 1996, 850. It wouldn't start, when it would start I could drive about 100ft before it would stall out, then it wouldnt turn over. I started by replacing the relay (common issue) and the car started ! Held idle and it seemed like I fixed the issue by replacing the relay. The next morning I drove it to work and after about 30 mins on the road it died on me, same issue, Back to square one.. I went and got myself a new fuel pump.. Not OEM because I couldn't find one in town. I replaced the pump, unplugged the relay (newer) and put it back in. Tested the pump and it was humming ! Seemed to have fixed the issue... Started and it held idle ! Let it idle for about 10 mins before I decided to drive it a bit to charge the battery. As soon as I hit the gas I could feel the car bogging out and sure enough it stalled out again... I'm at a loss. The car was working fine. I was told running on less than a quarter tank too often is bad for the pump ? I'm also wondering if my new relay went bad when my car stalled out on my way to work ? I'm also wondering if the new fuel pump I put it there is a dud because it's not a Bosch. Please get back to me ! Thanks for putting out great content !
not yet i want to add the clips to the wire then going to drive it tomorrow. this has been a year long journey. car was in a shop for a week without a fix. i love your videos.
thanks helpful video , i just replaced my fule filter & fuel pump , i hear the pump running just not not getting any fuel pressure , will check out the relay and the regulator tommorow .
Hello Robert, I have a 99 S70. It has 75k miles. It starts up and drives well for as long as I drive without shutting off the engine. But once I shut it off , it wont start again for at least a few hours. Next day it starts up just fine. I changed the fuel filter. Ive tried to take out the fuel pump relay when this happens and put it back in. I also tried to jump the relay with a wire and clamps as you illustrated, but no start. I also checked the end of the fuel rail and got gas out of the cap. Could bad spark plugs and or wires make the car turn over but not start. Anything else I can trouble shoot. I love that you love Volvos. Ty you for your videos.
Thank so much Robert for all your videos. I have a 95 volvo 850, it starts and runs fine. But it stops when as soon as engine gets warm. Any clue of what is wrong?
robert. thx for being on youtube. i replaced bad fuel pump in 2004 S60 (non-turbo, steel fuel tank). new pump works well, but fuel pressure intermittently drops < 30 when running. your video makes me think it's the relay, so i wonder if you can tell me where to find that relay on my model/yr volvo.
Robert DIY thanks so much for the personal reply. can you tell me where the pressure regulator you mention is located in the car? do you mean the device on the fuel rail/manifold?
I have a 2000 Volvo s70 with 190,000 miles on it. I bought it from my neighbor who had it sitting in her yard for 4 years. I changed the oil, put coolant in, cleaned the spark plugs, and lubricated the cylinders. I also tried to remove the old gas but nothing was coming out so I put 3 fresh gallons in. I also put a brand new battery in it. Then I went to crank it and it starts for maybe a second and immediately dies. I’m not sure what the next step is. I checked next to the fuel injectors to see if they were getting fuel and it seemed like they were. I’m 19 and I was motivated by your videos to buy this car. I could send you a 30sec video if you’d like to see exactly what it’s doing.
Robert DIY I have replaced the antenna ring and the problem still occurs. The engine starts for maybe 1 second and dies. Is that enough time to scan it for codes. I have tried everything I can think of. I also replaced the spark plugs.
Thanks Robert for the very useful video. My 1998 petrol volvo v 40 would not start.I suspect the fuel pump. The relay is good.I ve ordered a new pump.Just wondering if you can replace the pump yourself. Is it a big job.Where is it located and how to reach it.Thanks.
Can I just leave the jump wire connected in the circuit box until the cars either home or for a couple days until we get the new relay in the mail? Thank you for all your videos they really help Sir'.
Thank you so much for your shared car knowledge. would you know if I could swap out a 5 pin relay for the 4 pin fuel pump relay? I noticed that there are placements for more then 4 pins in the circuit board that the fuel pump relay connects to. How long could I drive with a jumper wire. I need to go about 40- 55 miles. I am waiting to find a fuel pump relay for a 89 S70. Thank you for allowing me to gain some of your expertise.
Thanks Robert! The relays were both Kaehler's. If it runs better on the jump wire, I'm assuming I should get the Volvo relay? Also, do you have any suggestions for how I could I determine if is the fuel pressure regulator or pump going out? There are no other codes, just P0230. Thanks again Robert! With your videos I'm at 236,000, hoping for 300,000+!!!
If it runs good with the jump wire, it's likely the relay. If you pull the vacuum hose off of the pressure regulator and there is fuel in there, it's bad.
I've been following you awhile. I work on my 2007 Volvo C70 and for the life of me I can't find what is causing ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE URGENT and my code reader is giving me P0230. I am gonna start testing the relays next though. Carbstarts fine and drives fine.
Thanks bud, are you in Alb, saw the plate, maybe would like to have you take a look if your not too busy, of course I would pay you for your time. Thanks Michael
Hi Robert, thanks for all your videos. I have a 1998 S90, it has a lot of pressure in thank, I also has a strong smell of gas inside the car. any ideas what will cause this problem? Thank you
Hi Robert....I bought my 98 Volvo s70 three years ago and have been a fan of yours ever since. This car has been one problem after another. We have been stumped lately and haven't had much luck finding the right info on getting my car to start. I am hoping maybe you can help. One day out of nowhere the key stopped working and the ignition tumbler locked up and wouldn't turn. For a quick fix my husband removed the dash and we were starting the car with a screwdriver in the ignition switch...that worked for several weeks until it didn't. One day it just stopped turning over at all. The head lights come on, the radio and dash lights everything works but it doesn't even try to turn over. We have since tried replacing the tumbler, replaced the switch, replaced the starter, the battery, the neutral position sensor. He's checked all of the ground wires, fuses ect. Nothing has changed. Do you have any idea what the problem could be? Thanks in advance, Sincerely from a desperate wife looking to help her husband Jessica
Hi Robert, I need you to help me, the car was very helpful and I tried to saw off the nut that it brings to regulate it, but I did too much and it turned off and no time, it does not want to turn on that I can be s70
Thank you Robert! I will mention this to my Mechanic! It’s been a real problem for him to diagnose! No code coming up & he has had it for a week drove it & it didn’t stall once😣 it’s odd because it happened to me on the way to the shop! I’m going to call him & determine if I’m gonna let him try again or pick it up and try a different mechanic! Any advise for a girl?? As I mentioned he’s had it since Monday! European Car Authority! 🤔 1998 Volvo S70
Hey, Robert! Could you please make a tutorial on how to lift up the fuse box? I'm interested in seeing how you can replace the B+ battery cable in a 96 850. I do not have a secondary box near the abs, just the one with the relays. Thanks!
Hello Robert, I would like to know, if you will please, would the Volvo S70 fuel pump make a noise like a pump sound for only about 2 seconds after you start it, if the relay was bad but had a good pump? On the S70, is the pump under the rear seat or in the trunk under the panel? Thank you so much for your help.
everyone if you go to autozone for this relay, use the part number on the relay to cross reference to the one they have. their computer was pointing to the wrong relay if you went by year ,make, model. they actually had the oem part made in Europe.
Hey there Mr. Robert. My name is Patrick. When the pnp switch has gone bad, wll it send a signal to the computer to stop the fuel from flowing? I found a sweet spot between drive and neutral, where the car will crank, but not start. I'm getting fire but no fuel. When I check the fuel pressure release valve, there was no fuel coming out, dripping or spraying.
BTW you may have the same symptoms (stalling, no start) if your MAF sensor is broken. It's a simple, inexpensive part to replace but unfortunately I don't know how you test it. My OBDII did not show anything but perhaps VOL-FCR would.
Hello Robert thanks for the videos. I tried to jump the relay but didnt hear anything at all from the fuel pump, and its quiet out hear. But, I did get gas coming out of valve that you spoke of. So would my pump still be good if I am getting gas. I have a 98 volvo S70.
well, the car had been sitting so I figure it wasnt just left over gas. It had a little presure to it because it didnt just fall directly down, it shot out. It was about a 3 table spoon.
If I replaced the relay but had a bad pump, would I have to get another relay when I replace the old pump ? And does having a full tank help remedy this issue ? Thanks !
Hi Robert I know this is a old video but wondered if you can advise me . I have a 1996 850 R, the car has become harder to start than normal, I cannot hear the normal pressuring up of the system when the key is position 2. When it drives it hesitates like its going to stall when you touch the peddle , its auto by the way, and it will drive away slowly and gets to 30/40 mph but doesn't want to "go" especially uphills and gear shifts are a bit random, it has the feeling of not enough fuel but can the relay only half work. It had a new fuel pump about 2 years ago. my other thought if it wasnt the relay w was fuel filter. any thoughts
Is there any thing else that would cause random stalling? Could a bad pcv system cause stalling? Plus why may the relay continue to go bad multiple times?
Can a fuel pressure regulator for a 96 Volvo 850T5 give intermittent problems? I still have the original with 165,000 miles. It passes all the tests, but could there be something wrong with it after all these years? I have occasional hesitation and very rarely stalling. Pump, filter, ignition etc.has all been replaced. I am going nuts with this. One day it runs perfect and the next day I can hardly make it across town. Idle fluctuates and then evens out some days. MAF is only a year and clean. IAC replaced with a new one.

Now we will see if that is the problem or if Valentina needs a new fuel pump!
Your car does not have a relay like mine.
As so many have said myself included thank you. You are the guru of Volvo
Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much Robert. Your videos have been a huge help with my '96 volvo 850 turbo. So far I've done my own fuel pump and my blower motor with your help. Thank you.
You are welcome.

Nice.
That was it. My 2000 v70 would shut down after relay got warm. I remembered this video and bypassed relay. Car never died. Got a relay ordered. 55$
awesome
@@RobertDIY thanks for this video.
I LOVE my Volvo 850 !!!! And you are the only one that gives so much tips n tricks about this wonderfull car ! Thank's from France !!
Cool.

Thanks for watching.
Robert thanks so much buddy your videos are just so simple and thorough. After so much headache, i finally replaced the fuel pump regulator and the car is going. 130,000 on this engine, it's practically new! Lol. Still needs a good amount of tlc but i can feel the promise! Thanks man!
Awesome!
Hi Robert. Your videos are a great help to me. My 91 940 turbo had the exact hot engine start problems as yours. Even though another guy made a video about changing the fuel pressure regulator which was my problem I wouldn't have seen it unless I followed you. Thanks again Robert
Good to hear
Thanks for this video. My 98 S70 refuses to start right now. It will turn over all day and just won't kick over. For a while it had been starting only on the second try, like clockwork. Fuel pump does work (I can hear it humming) so this might be it. I'll have to try that out. Thanks.
cool. also check lawnmower syndrome.
+xTheLoyalDutchx you are welcome. Any codes? If that doesn't fix it, try replacing the key antenna ring.
Robert DIY Nope, No codes. Hopefully Its the relay.
Was it the relay?
yes, it was my relay, sorry for late answer
LOL, Replace the fuel pump. You can get a cheap on one eBay for about $50.

You are welcome.
Thanks Robert for having way more patience than I have. And all your videos are very good

had this issue a few months ago, didn't know what was going on but she wouldn't start. Every time I go to the junkyard now (which I go to with confidence because of these videos) I take the fuel pump relays to carry in my glovebox just in case

Thank you brother. You most certainly know these vehicles 110%
Robert that was it EXACTLY. Brother you are a lifesaver my friend. Thank you my brother .
You are welcome.
And Robert, I had driven the car for two days with just the jump wire, so you’ll be aware of what I might have done. Just trying to figure this out
Very clear and concise. This is educational. Thank you
You're very welcome!
thanks for the info big help in diagnosing the no start on my s70
you are welcome.
thanks for the video. I thought my fuel pump was on its way out but it was the relay.
Common issue.

Thanks Robert, your videos are great. Very useful for me and my 850R.
Good deal, thanks for watching.
Hello Robert,
I have a 99 S70.

Any codes?

Thank so much Robert for all your videos. I have a 95 volvo 850, it starts and runs fine. But it stops when as soon as engine gets warm. Any clue of what is wrong?
If you try to start it what's missing? Has the car been maintained in service properly?
robert. thx for being on youtube. i replaced bad fuel pump in 2004 S60 (non-turbo, steel fuel tank). new pump works well, but fuel pressure intermittently drops < 30 when running. your video makes me think it's the relay, so i wonder if you can tell me where to find that relay on my model/yr volvo.
I don't think those have one. Ford system. Probably a bad fuel pressure regulator.
Robert DIY thanks so much for the personal reply. can you tell me where the pressure regulator you mention is located in the car? do you mean the device on the fuel rail/manifold?
Sad to say, I don't know.
thank you for your time and effort, steeler fan.
Great information for a amateur like me.
Tks
you are welcome.
Crank it, let it start, when it dies, scan for codes. Usually that means the antenna ring is bad.

Robert DIY I have replaced the antenna ring and the problem still occurs. The engine starts for maybe 1 second and dies. Is that enough time to scan it for codes. I have tried everything I can think of. I also replaced the spark plugs.
much appreciated im gonna ccheck on mine soon just tonsee how old it is

Thanks Robert for the very useful video. My 1998 petrol volvo v 40 would not start.I suspect the fuel pump. The relay is good.I ve ordered a new pump.Just wondering if you can replace the pump yourself. Is it a big job.Where is it located and how to reach it.Thanks.
I don't know. Try a Google search.
awesome!! thank you!! can't wait to see what else you have related to volvo repairs.

I drove with a jump wire for about 10,000 miles.
@@RobertDIY Thank you.

B-camshaft position advanced or system performance bank

not usually
Hi Robert. Can you tell me what those three relays in the fusebox area marked with the letter "J" control?
One controls the cabin fan, one controls something with the starting circuit. You can get a wiring diagram or pull them and see what happens.
Thanks in advance,
Sincerely from a desperate wife looking to help her husband
Jessica
You should probably call me. I don't know what you are saying you are doing to try to start the car.
Hi Robert, I need you to help me, the car was very helpful and I tried to saw off the nut that it brings to regulate it, but I did too much and it turned off and no time, it does not want to turn on that I can be s70
I have NO IDEA what you are trying to tell me, you need to call or text me.

Did you watch the video? You can do this stuff yourself.
Hey, Robert! Could you please make a tutorial on how to lift up the fuse box? I'm interested in seeing how you can replace the B+ battery cable in a 96 850. I do not have a secondary box near the abs, just the one with the relays. Thanks!
I have tried a few times. I'll try again in a few days.
Most people just splice into the wire harness about 12 inches back.
I HAVE A XC70 3.2L 2010, IS THE RELAY LOCATION THE SAME AS YOUR VIDEO ? THANK YOU
Does not have one.
Hello Robert,
I would like to know, if you will please, would the Volvo S70 fuel pump make a noise like a pump sound for only about 2 seconds after you start it, if the relay was bad but had a good pump? On the S70, is the pump under the rear seat or in the trunk under the panel? Thank you so much for your help.
Huh?
ua-cam.com/video/gt9w-ZSxs9I/v-deo.html
Did you watch the video?
everyone if you go to autozone for this relay, use the part number on the relay to cross reference to the one they have. their computer was pointing to the wrong relay if you went by year ,make, model. they actually had the oem part made in Europe.
Thanks for sharing
to add.. As rob couldnt think of it.. It was no spark, the distributor rotor was the main issue
Glad you figured it out.
hi Robert i have 2005 s40 no petrol coming out of the petrol rail any suggestion?
ua-cam.com/video/NhtUXZTurzo/v-deo.html
Hey there Mr. Robert. My name is Patrick. When the pnp switch has gone bad, wll it send a signal to the computer to stop the fuel from flowing? I found a sweet spot between drive and neutral, where the car will crank, but not start. I'm getting fire but no fuel. When I check the fuel pressure release valve, there was no fuel coming out, dripping or spraying.
I don't think so.
BTW you may have the same symptoms (stalling, no start) if your MAF sensor is broken. It's a simple, inexpensive part to replace but unfortunately I don't know how you test it. My OBDII did not show anything but perhaps VOL-FCR would.
+padepede a bad MAF will normally cause a code.
Think the relay could cause the car to not get enough fuel after about 1 minute of running perfectly once started?
Sure
Can you tell me where the access panel on an s70 is for the fuel pump? Also you are very informative thanks

Hello Robert thanks for the videos. I tried to jump the relay but didnt hear anything at all from the fuel pump, and its quiet out hear. But, I did get gas coming out of valve that you spoke of. So would my pump still be good if I am getting gas. I have a 98 volvo S70.
I don't know, how much gas came out?
What's the problem with the car?
well, the car had been sitting so I figure it wasnt just left over gas. It had a little presure to it because it didnt just fall directly down, it shot out. It was about a 3 table spoon.
If I replaced the relay but had a bad pump, would I have to get another relay when I replace the old pump ? And does having a full tank help remedy this issue ? Thanks !
No, no.
Glad you figured it out.
Genuine Volvo relay is £55 do you know of a bosh that fits instead cheers
OEM
Hey Robert thanks for this video. But my car hesitates to struggle only when it's hot outside can that be the relay problem? Thanks
+Dave Cruz huh? Hesitates to struggle?
Robert DIY yea I mean it won't start right away. It's hard to start it cranks but takes a few try's. And u can hear the fuel pump clearly tho.
+Dave Cruz did you try jumping the relay socket?
Is there any thing else that would cause random stalling? Could a bad pcv system cause stalling? Plus why may the relay continue to go bad multiple times?
ua-cam.com/video/8fNCqTu7fKM/v-deo.html
Can a fuel pressure regulator for a 96 Volvo 850T5 give intermittent problems? I still have the original with 165,000 miles. It passes all the tests, but could there be something wrong with it after all these years? I have occasional hesitation and very rarely stalling. Pump, filter, ignition etc.has all been replaced. I am going nuts with this. One day it runs perfect and the next day I can hardly make it across town. Idle fluctuates and then evens out some days. MAF is only a year and clean. IAC replaced with a new one.
Probably the TPS (throttle position sensor).
Thank you, Robert. Very helpful video!
You are welcome.
Thanks Robert, that was very helpful information I appreciate it.

Ok what if it sparks how do I find the short next I shall in plug the fuel pump and see then and if it don't it's the ⛽
