Here's a trick how to extend the life of those expensive leaders, and a bait that works anywhere and everywhere. www.fishermanslife.net www.gosierrafoothills.com
I recommend using a rubber fishing net for trout. The rope nets damage the trouts slime coating if you plan on releasing them. Just like being careful about wetting hands before handling the fish. Great catch! long time subscriber :)
I still have dreams of that one monster trout in some no-name river that i was able to raise but never land. The stuff of nightmares 30 years later. But you did it! I don't know if that was the 20" you saw from the prior trip, but if it was, that's amazing; you can sleep well tonight. Your casting is vastly improved this year. Looking forward to more videos on the river.
Bro congratulations! You’ve come a long way since you started fly fishing! You’ve learned a lot and refined your techniques! Keep taking us on your journey!
I couldn't bring myself to even read the comments before you landed that PB wild trout for fear that it would get off. Hand to heart I was on the edge of my freaking seat and holding my breath for you Matts! Merry Christmas and many more blessings. Big fan.🎣👊
Wow congratulation! You make some of the best trout fishing videos on UA-cam imo, not the biggest fish or the greatest adventures but you got something that's hard to explain.. think its the transparent picture of yourself, just honest about everything, not hiding anything and to see you learning and explore this type of fishing are epic! It doesn't hurt that the scenery in your videos are very beautiful! All the best to you and im so happy that you're back and are feeling better.
matt winter is coming and you better be in shape to fight the weather up there. I learned real quick and for the decade I lived up there I was in excellent shape to fisht winter and moving all that fire wood
So pumped for you…. more pumped to see you watch it swim away 🙏🏻🤙🏻🍻💯🎣 There two types of freshwater trout fisheries in California 1.) Put and take….stocked, caught, fairly barren until next planting. 2.) Wild trophy fisheries…if everyone kept a single fish, those would become #1👀🤷🏼♂️💯 Happy for you! As you get your bearings, maybe I’ll take you up to float/fish the forks 🎣🤷🏼♂️🤙🏻🍻
Good video! Don't fall in that cold water kid! Whenever I'm fishing up near there on slippery rocks I usually wear a Hyde vest because they're lightweight and don't really restrict my cast
Carla and Ralph were my booth neighbors at the Fisherman’s Life street fair, super nice people! Hope you’ve been able to try out some Fisherman’s Gold gear
Dude I love your trout fishing videos now that you moved up to the mountains. I live in the bay and do the usual halibut salmon rockfish crabbing, but my favorite is fishing rivers like this. Need to get to the mountains more. Thanks for the great content.
The human body can adapt to anything you throw at it as long as you do it right. You dont have to start with 20, start with 10, if you can't do 10 do 5 everyday at the same time of day for a week then you start adding 5 more every week. Your muscles and joints will hurt for awhile but it's all part of the process.
I hear that eating a stick of butter per meal is the equivalent of running one mile per day, so I’m pretty sure you’ve already got about 4,000 miles under your belt. Way ahead of the game.
Beautiful fish! Hey, did you ever start exploring the gold mine on your property? I recently got into prospecting and It's been a lot of fun. Starting to build my gold stash lol
Hey bro love your vids have been watching from the start. Just wondering what do you like about fly fishing vs spinner etc? I tried it once and it was an absolute disaster with the excess line haha!
I would like to go back to the bridge on sunrise during April and May for the shad.... That's in Sacramento below the hatchery on a walk-in bridge not the red one but the one further west look it up on the map it's great for shad
From that picture of the BEAUTIFUL fish you caught... that is a Brown... Not a rainbow. Brown trout are silver fad to almost light green with black spot.. German Brown kinda sliver to a dirty drown on top with black and red spots.. just from my experience... just wanted you to know buddy.. love your videoes!!!!
Nice rainbow bro but uh use a rubber net try and keep er in the water as often as possible and let the water flow through the gills not against them for a revive and definitely don't set them on rocks.
Nice dude! That’s awesome you got a wild rainbow that big! Don’t believe the haters who say it’s a stocked fish. Tippet rings are a lifesaver for leaders and I think everyone should utilize them. I can’t wait to see you get better at fly fishing with all the rivers near you. Also, you should try the creeks near grass valley and Nevada city. If you want browns, they are tons of them there…no matter how small the creek may look…
No the fins are clean and the dorsal fin is not shriveled. It’s a wild fish. I don’t know if you realize that wild trout exist in California, dude@@raymonddoerr2523
Rivers with adequate habitat and food can support large native/wild rainbow trout especially some tailwater rivers. Not all large trout are automatically hatchery fish. That fish was clean, brightly colored and sleek with perfect fins which is not common for stockers which usually have nubby or partially damaged fins. You sir are just an uneducated hater
I once watched a huge rainbow rolling in a very little creek there was no way it could stay where it was I'm sure your Brown took a hike, he will be back?
Aloha. I fished for trout, steelhead, and salmon in California. Unfortunately Alaska ruined me. Started working up there. 24” inch minimum keeper on rainbow or cuttthroat, 36” for steelhead. All wild, all artificial, no bait. No disrespect intended, gotta do you.
@@markvanderstelt8999 I’ve caught trout double that size in a stream like that. No disrespect intended, I just don’t want people to underestimate the size trout can get to.
I'm 42 and because my old man eyesight got me at 40, I have to take my glasses off to get those knots perfect. I look 30 but an aging body is real folks.
Hey, amazing fish. I grew up about an hour north of the city but now live in Montana and fly fish all the time. If you’re ever looking for an amazing place to fish shoot me a message. I pulled a 32 in cutthroat this fall. The fish are insane
Didn't realize fishing required so much athleticism. I visited the jettys in HMB recently and didn't feel confident enough to climb on them. My legs were shaking and felt really unbalanced.
I recommend using a rubber fishing net for trout. The rope nets damage the trouts slime coating if you plan on releasing them. Just like being careful about wetting hands before handling the fish. Great catch! long time subscriber :)
I like to just get the fish back in the water soon as possible before releasing or having the net dipped in the water helps too
I still have dreams of that one monster trout in some no-name river that i was able to raise but never land. The stuff of nightmares 30 years later.

That’s a big fish
7:57 that high five man 🤜🤛 cinematic. The catch, the fight, the net. 👏 Bang

I couldn't bring myself to even read the comments before you landed that PB wild trout for fear that it would get off. Hand to heart I was on the edge of my freaking seat and holding my breath for you Matts!

Glad you released it ❤
Really enjoy the mountain river trout fishing!!! So soothing and calm. Any chance you can make these videos longer? Lol
Congratulations on your PB, awesome that you got wild rainbow trout over there
Man that's a dream fish. Absolutely beautiful. Nice release, too. You could catch it again -- you know where it lives and what it likes to eat.
I had same issue when changing lures. Thanks for info on tippet rings.😎🤙🤙
Bro you are a better man than me I don't know if I could have let it go. Good job my friend.
That is a dream fish my man. Love your videos.
man that was EPIC!! What a fight!
that vertical shooting part killed me
Nice catch ,beautiful spot
Yump! Day 1 subscriber, Keep the videos coming. Hopefully one day I'll get two fish with you.😊

Always good getting a notification.
Great catch 👍👏🎉
Wow awesome video 🥰🤗👋👍🎣🐟🐠
Fish was so dope congrats
Waiting for that catch and cook :D
Congrats!
Good video! Don't fall in that cold water kid! Whenever I'm fishing up near there on slippery rocks I usually wear a Hyde vest because they're lightweight and don't really restrict my cast
That was a Monster Wild Rainbow Trout!
Congrats on your PB Bro
#BayArea👊💥
Congrats 👍
You should also use a loop knot, when using a subsurface fli. As it gives the fli , more movement 🎣👌.
Nice catch 💪 🐟
Great fish..
Merry Christmas to you and yours 🎄
🎅🤶🧑🎄🌟🙏
Beautiful Fish Matt🎉.
JO JO IN VT 💞
What's up good too see you.
Nice fight bro, Good catch 🤙🏼
Great fish! If all else fails, and you want big browns, rapalas in rainbow patterns work great because that is what those hogs eat
This looks like Camp 9 in the Murphy's area.
Carla and Ralph were my booth neighbors at the Fisherman’s Life street fair, super nice people! Hope you’ve been able to try out some Fisherman’s Gold gear
Nice fish!
4:34 Nice save!
some good fishing
Thank you for your catch and release.
Are you kidding me these are stocked fish who cares?
@rman229 if you think that's stocked you should learn your fish
LETS GO MATT!!!
That was funny ( especially if you're old). 😂😂😂
Dude I love your trout fishing videos now that you moved up to the mountains. I live in the bay and do the usual halibut salmon rockfish crabbing, but my favorite is fishing rivers like this. Need to get to the mountains more. Thanks for the great content.
Nice fish man. Now it’s time to find a 30 inch
hell yeah!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

We called those Hellgrammites, and they are trout candy but so is grasshoppers!
I use a bobber and drift a bug looking thing the trout love it
Beautiful fish! Hey, did you ever start exploring the gold mine on your property? I recently got into prospecting and It's been a lot of fun. Starting to build my gold stash lol
Nice
Love your vids bro. You don’t need those tippet rings. Just learn how to tie a double surgeon’s knot. It takes one minute to tie super easy.
Omg😮 monster trout

A tippet ring. What will they invent next. I just tie tippets with a double uni knot. Nice video as always.
I love fishing streams and rivers. Any recommendations in El Dorado forest area?
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
It's hilarious you caught a PB trout while talking loudly. That might mean you are a fish caller.....lol!
WoW, fisherman some time wait a life time to catch PB wild trout

Gotta leave the spinning rod at home. Just take the fly rod. It will force you to hone your fly fishing skills. Good catch!
During fall anywhere from April to October between 4 o'clock and 430 they go looking for food
Nice rainbow bro but uh use a rubber net try and keep er in the water as often as possible and let the water flow through the gills not against them for a revive and definitely don't set them on rocks.

the empty casing is where the stone fly came from
nice
Come out here to bishop ca for merryfishmas next year
“Just kidding… I only lost 2” had me dying 😂
Mountain man's life
I always just tie tippet to the leader. You never have to cut the leader that way...
I once watched a huge rainbow rolling in a very little creek there was no way it could stay where it was I'm sure your Brown took a hike, he will be back?
Name that river! 3 2 1 Go! 🎣
I will guess the Stanislaus River.
❤🤙🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Need them woolly buggers they work good for me
Bro u gotta try Comanche pond.. trout so big they look like salmon….
People don't realized you can catch monster trout in California. Nice fish.
That’s not even close to a monster trout.
@@Isaiahb876 good size for the stream there are big boys in the lakes.

Try gold panning. If you do, look in bedrock cracks and little river banks.
I'm 42 and because my old man eyesight got me at 40, I have to take my glasses off to get those knots perfect. I look 30 but an aging body is real folks.
Time on the water is how you get better at fly fishing
The other option is to use a furled leader. They come with the ring and have no memory. Been using them for a long time.
Not good for nymphing tho. They are great for dry flies
Hey, amazing fish. I grew up about an hour north of the city but now live in Montana and fly fish all the time. If you’re ever looking for an amazing place to fish shoot me a message. I pulled a 32 in cutthroat this fall. The fish are insane
Instead of the tippet ring, just tie a blood knot. Nice fish!
My grandpa called those periwinkles
That’s a periwinkle
It is a helgramite and it won't hurt you
Matts i love your channel, watch every video and have watched every vid before I was subbed but could you PLEASE UPLOAD IN 4k
