Sigh...all the put-downs on here get wearisome. We get it. Not everyone likes everyone on the show. Some panelists annoy me too, but I'd rather focus on the positive. This show was/is a joy to watch. They seemed to have a great time together and nobody was hung up with PC nonsense. Go Match Game! And thank you MatchGameProductions for bringing it back!
Yes. Have you seen the gene Rayburn/ match game documentary? It is one of the favorite documentaries I've seen. One thing I remember big was how they talked about the production of the shows, how many nights they'd be drinking and by the 3rd or 4th shoot they'd all be drunk 😂😂 just good times and like you said no one was hung up on PC
I'm guilty of this, I'm sorry to say. I just got so sick of all the put downs towards Brett, I felt that if other people have the right to do that, I have the right to put down the ones that annoy me (namely Richard Dawson. His big ego gets on my nerves). But I actually prefer your view on this. The put-downs ARE annoying. Especially considering I tend to like the people most everyne else puts down (such as Brett, and in this week's case, Mitzi McCall). Fighting fire with fire is never a good thing. But at least I don't do it in every single video like some people do!
I love how she gets super stressed out when someone chooses her. I also loved how she and CNR would support and help each other when one of them was chosen for the head-to-head match. ---- Doc BLANK was harder than most head-to-head matches. The only thing I could think of (and it took me a while) was the answer Brett gave. Later I thought of Doc Martens (the shoes) but I'm not sure if they were around or popular in the early 70s. The contestant came up with a good answer too.
Those look to be the same plaid tartan pants from the legendary episode of Match Game '73 wherein Jack Carter compared Gene's ensemble to "a station break in Poland!"
Back then, smoking was more commonplace and acceptable than it is now. If you watch closely, you will see quite a few of the celebs sneaking a puff on a cigarette.
@@namk19 Charlie was great on the later seasons of Silk Stalkings too, when they intentionally threw in more comedy. And they'd occasionally bring on Mitzi as his character's wife.
Yeah, and she and Charlie Brill appeared on the Ed Sullivan show the same night The Beatles made their debut, along with a very young Davy Jones, before the Monkees.
I always thought the host of the show would have his wardrobe provided, but the comments make it sound like they were Gene's personally. I find these details interesting. Thanks for the uploads.
Rubin Brothers provided the suits but Gene had input into the styles. He choose to go with the fashion de jour which at times seems pretty gaudy now. Later in the shows run CBS started providing the suits for Gene. At that point they became more more traditional/conservative. The other celebrities had to provide their own clothes so you see outfits recycled fairly often.

Thank God this was Mitzi's last week ever on Match Game. I found her more exasperating than Kaye Stevens. Funny that the two most annoying panelists, (Gary's a close third), weren't asked back. Kaye's last week was close to the end of '74.
What if:......... Those choices cause either larger health issues down the road (smoking for example) or when it creates a larger detriment such as spreading illness during a pandemic.
Who told Mitzi she was funny? Not funny at all. And she kept trying for laughs, instead of trying to match the contestants. She acted like she was so proud of her stupid answers, holding up her cards for such a long time. She was the most annoying guest ever.
I agree. But on the other hand, in the comments of most every episode of MG so far (from #1 to now), someone remarks how refreshing it is that everyone wasn't so PC back then and didn't get offended at every little joke, and they say that they wish we could all go back to that mindset.
Everyone is so used to watching Gary as Radar that when he steps out of character it's a little bit of a shock. Everyone on the panel was encouraged to ham it up, and Gary was just going with the flow.

Only 100 episodes until CNR is back

Richard was debonair...digging Gene’s ensemble
So what was the “Doc” Brett was trying to think of?
I loved Gary's response to Gene thinking that he carried a blanket when he played Charlie Brown. "Linus carried a blanket. I carried the show."
I wish buzzr would show all of the episodes

Robert Vaughn so cute love me some Napoleon Solo!!
@Diane Newman I was an Illa fan too, he's even hot today in NCIS.
"Troubled Waters", Columbo

Why does Buzzer keep showing the same shows, yrs 78 over and over
They're starting to branch out a bit now I think. For instance this week they started showing some '75 episodes.
