What a classic album, every metalhead must own a copy of this.
In 1990, we, metal heads, used to correspond by letter and exchange demo tapes. Once, I arranged a meeting with a guitarist to form a metal band. We talked and before we had our rehearsal, he asked me if I knew Candlemass. I said I had never heard of them, and then he smiled and said, "Are you ready to listen to the best album in the world?" and then he put Nightfall on the record player. We listened to the whole album. When we finished, I said, "I want to make that kind of music!"

Messiah's voice and lyrics hit deep, like you're being initiated into the occult and the music is the soundtrack. Fucking brilliant.
This one will always be my favorite. Bought it right when it came out - without knowing anything about them beyond the hype sticker designating their sound as a wall of DOOM ha - and then had to find Epicus Doomicus at a different record shop!

Got turned on recently to Candlemass by a friend, I'm hella grateful I started with Epicus Doomicus and I have such good friends lol
This album changed my life at the age of 15. Enough said.

Man, such a great album. I always find myself playing air guitar to this album. I love how even the faster parts of songs feel like doom. "Dark are the Veils of Death" is one of my favorites I always think of, but this is an album you've got to rock out to all the way through.
