A lot of bands were influenced by the earlier doomy works of Sabbath but I always felt that these guys were the legitimate heirs to that era in that they continued what Sabbath started with doom metal.

We avert our eyes and grip the steering wheel, determined not to give an inch. Someone else can make that sacrifice. Selfish, our selfish nature makes it very difficult to understand the great sacrifice Christ made for us. When we were useless sinners, when we were absolutely powerless, He chose to die for us. Sinners….who hated God, who delighted in the very things God hates. He died for us. It’s hard to get our selfish brains wrapped around that notion. We were on the verge of perishing and He gave Himself away to save us. Who does that? What a great friend Christ is to us! That He would lay down His life to save such selfish, sinful beings.That is what is most amazing about His sacrifice. If we had all been good, righteous people--then perhaps it is understandable that He would be willing to die for us. But we were ungodly. And He STILL died for us. The depth of His love was such that, even in our sin, He loved us and died for us. He took our sin upon Himself. He knew about everything we ever did or ever would do. It didn’t matter. He did it anyway. His unwavering love for us sent him to the cross. /prayer+ Lord, I am overwhelmed when I think about what You did for me on that cross. You didn’t have to. You could have averted your eyes and looked away from my sin in disgust. Instead, You looked at me with love and You did for me what I could not do for myself. I thank You, Lord, for dying for me, so that I might live with You eternally. Help me to live a life on this earth that is worthy of Your sacrifice and help me to defeat my selfish nature that I may give to others as You have given to me. Amen.

This is my first time getting into doom metal.
My entire life (currently 22) I’ve listened to rap and hip hop. I started branching off and listening to the basics of rock, really got into 80’s thrash, and now I’m here and this stuffs awesome!

The best Doom band ever. I have always felt like im walking through an old castle or historical building when i listen to them. Me, my friends, and band mates use to listen to them while in my basment getting high and drunk nonestop before/after band practice. i miss them days. #Feromoan
Then let me recommend you to listen to dungeon synth. The atmosphere that it gives is unique. My fav is Depressive Silence - Depressive Silence II, from 1996.

I went out at 4:AM and walked around a dark forest with my eyes closed with this album blasting in my headphones and it just teleported me to another realm. I was gone. I have never done drugs and I think I managed to replicate the feeling people get from it. I was not on Earth.

Epicus Doomicus Metallicus is an essential album for the Doom metal gener.
Candlemass continued what Black Sabbath started in the early 1970s.
Doom Metal became a defined gener of Heavy Metal and Candlemass is an important band.

This is such an epic album!!! I bought it when it was released and I thought it was pure awesomeness. Now, in 2024, I'm 38 years older and the more it gets older the more epic it becomes! Like aging wine!

Check my first comment beyond.. Legend band from USA, Cirith ungol, Mercy, Nemezis. Check progressive bands from 70 like Van der graf generators.. Pentagram, Count raven. This genre is more Heavy epic doom metal. For instans Paradise lost, anathema, My daying bride is difrent style of doom.. Cathedral is mix of that..I wish years for looking Holy grail of yours best doom metal. Slava

What can I not say. I was robbed of my childhood. So; I relive it through this album that I did not learn about until Decibel Magazine top 100 Doom metal records of all time, it was # 2. Now I am trying to start a Doom metal band.

Candlemass считаю фронтменами дум жанра как такового, это их музыка! И, конечно же, Мессия в их составе, на следующем альбоме уже, создал в купе с этим инструменталом невероятный, магический, мистический и мрачный звук! А текста!! Да я их пою почти постоянно, тренировался вокалу именно у Candlemass, просто легендарны!
Помню мне сначала не зашёл, бабину у другана взял и дома уже вдумчиво прослушал. Вещь ! Во времена были....
1986 and 1987 were years where metal absolutely peaked; Candlemass - EDM, Slayer - RIB, Metallica - MOP and to top it off: Kreator - TC. I am glad I was a metalhead teenager at the time :)

This is the ultimate best Metal Album 86 recorded and Johan is the voice of Candlemass.
Messiah Marcolin is a fantastic opera singer but Johan was doom.

A lot more talent than many stoner bands. The vocals are amazing and the guitar solos are tight.
My go to doom band is Pentagram, but this is more polished.
Pentagram and Sodom are my other few go to doom bands, and of course I cant forget Electric Wizard

I listened to Dio for my whole life. I've just now switched to Candlemass. I guess you can call it a Re-Roll. Like a class from an RPG. A different perspective on Dark Fantasy Metal. Truly.
Have you already heard of the Swedish band Avatarium? The songs on their debut, which I'd classify as Doom Metal, were all written by Candlemass-bassist Leif Edling and their vocalist Jennie-Ann Smith has more than once been refered to as the female Dio. If you haven't heard of them yet, try this live-version of "Moonhorse": ua-cam.com/video/Ei32qc0KJ2Q/v-deo.html (Might not be very smart to introduce a band by what I consider to be their best song, but others might have different favourites and it's not like the other songs aren't worth listening to.) On the subject of Candlemass, they are one of my favourite Doom Metal bands and their debut is still my favourite album by them.

If i ever got exiled to a distant island and could only listen to one band for the rest of my life, it would be Black Sabbath of course. But if i had the chance to choose 2, the second one would certainly be Candlemass. After the godfathers of metal, they are the best and most important metal band of all time, so much influence to a lot of other bands, complete masters and in a way pionners of a genre.

This is not just slow, boring Doom like almost all bands classified as Doom Metal are. Candlemass is top tier Doom/Heavy Metal. Modern Doom bores me to tears.
