    I bought a used beta ar jacket (2012) from someone online. I had it for a few months and it started coming apart in the same area around the hem cord. I emailed arcteryx and sent it to them to see if they would fix it for me. They emailed me back and said it could not be fixed. They said they could send it back to me or give me a credit for over $500. So i paid the extra $100 and got a brand new Beta AR Jacket. What an amazing company that would do that.

      I have the same situation, bought a used beta ar jacket and the entire hem cord tape failed. Since they require proof of purchase, what did you do? I have not been psyched with Arcteryx so wasn't sure if I'd try to warranty this one without a receipt. In 2021 I sent photos (and receipt) of a different, very lightly used alpha rain jacket that the chest pocket material ripped/delaminated from the tape and they told me it was not covered. It looks pristine and they said it was at the end of it's life. So lame. They only offered 40% off insanely high priced jackets that don't last. I'm still using a totally ripped shell and will not be supporting Arcteryx again.

    I hand washed this (or similar) jacket with the tech wash recently before going to reapply water repellant after 10 years of use, and had the same problem of it falling apart at all of the bungie seams. Just bought a new one but glad to see they’re possibly honoring this as a return/repair.

    Great discussion and review man...very much appreciate your opinion despite it being a great jacket. May I ask what did you end up getting to replace it? I like that jacket but it might be a bit much for my typical needs too.

    Hey, I went through the same situation 6 years ago, My Beta SL with the lighter gore tex, seems started to come apart for no reason, It was an early 2010s model. I contacted Arcteryx, sent the jacket in and i was told it was a problem with the glue they used. I was offered a full refund in store credit, I was that jacket for 6 years. I got a brand new Zetha SL, equivalent model. This jacket is still going strong. My Theta AR, the hanging loop came off the jacket, i sent it in and it was repair at no cost. If you think your jacket is over kill go with the non Gore tex pro, get the SL version with the thinner gore tex.

    I think its best to wait till you can send it in so they can fix the jacket. Its an amazing jacket and only has a few edges torn but overall its great!
    In terms of washing the jacket i would Never Ever use a washing machine for any clothing i really value.
    When i wash my favourite clothes i only use cold water and wash them gently by hand in the bathtub with some handsoap. I Never use the dryer on them. Only hang dry in shade.

    Is the Atom a good everyday warm jacket? I've got loads of down jackets (all Rab) but to use them every single day is tricky as in the UK we get a lot of rain!

    • @KRTLyfe
      @KRTLyfe  Рік тому

      I would say yes, I use mine plenty for running errands and things of that nature. If it is really raining hard tho you would definitely want to put a shell over it. The atom has a small degree of water repellency but not the ideal jacket in a proper downpour.

    questions: Did you use a top loader washing machine? And do you think that the sweat and body oils building up over 10 years broke down the jacket so that when you washed it, it fell apart?

    • @KRTLyfe
      @KRTLyfe  7 місяців тому

      I did use a top loader. Body oils and sweat definitely play a part but from what I have read most if not all Gtex products will eventually fall apart unfortunately.

  • @miguelalonsoperez5609

    I always wash my membrane jackets (which are quite fragile as they are ultralight rain shells for trails, usually Pertex tissue) by hand, with just body soap or a product for delicate clothes.
    Never had an issue, even without using DWR. I think the problem are the washing machines friction, temperature and cleaners.
    As normally you want to leave the fat deposits in the little holes of the membrane in order to keep it transpirable, probably body or even shampoo are enough to clean the jacket

    Happened to me as well. Same area around the bungee cord as well the "flaking" in other areas you showed in the video. Same exact stuff. But it didnt happen in the wash as I never washed the jacket. Seeing this video and reading couple comments below tells me it is design issue. Whatever they use for taping the seams is rubish. Lucky for you, they replied to you. I guess they dont care about people from my region. It fell apart for me couple of weeks before I was heading to Nepal.. luckily, they had a glue for repair in my local outdoor store and it did the trick. Funny enough it was glue, which repairs torn scuba diving suits. So I was able to glue the fabric around the cord back togather and it sort of works..
