On your Eley reel you have the worlds worst hose in that (NO KINK) garbage that kink always and insanely. Save and buy yourself their hose.

No kink has a lifetime warranty, already replaced it once. Lowe's guy was like we don't have warranties on hoses then I showed him the label so he swapped it out 🤣

You’ve had these hose reels for a while, which one would you recommend?

Hoselink for sure the retractable feature is hands down better. Both have stood the test of time and abuse but the eley never gets reeled back in lol

I have an eley on wheels and my wife and kids will not use it. They think rewinding the hose is too much of a hassle. They are happy with the hoselink though.

Thanks for the shout! I'm curious to see how my Hoselink reels do over time as well as far as durability testing goes. I have one on the north side of my house that's shaded pretty much all day, and just installed another one on the west side which gets a lot of sun exposure during the hottest parts of the day, so that will be a good test, too.

That will be great to see!

Hoselink sell covers for the reel to protect it against UV. I wouldn’t be having it in full sun without a cover. One of the biggest selling points of the Hoselink is the anti-burst hose connections. Disclaimer: I’m not a hoselink rep, but I am an Aussie. 🇦🇺

If they made an eley hose reel that worked like the hose link (a metal hose link?) I would buy five of them right now. In the mean time I’ll just keep struggling with the old school thing you hang and then wrap the hose on.

I also have the Hoselink version. Love that thing. I do have questions about durability. I've only had it for this season. Fingers crossed it works for a few years. Love it!

I purchased the Eley last year, and it worked really well. But, this spring, the short bent copper piece started leaking like a sieve. I'm not sure why, as I believe I had gotten out all the water over the winter. At the price of this unit, I was quite unhappy to have a leak. But, I used Eley's warranty web support, and sent them a pic of the leak. They got right back to me, apologized for the problem, and fast-shipped me a new piece. Apparently that piece has been redesigned to what you see now in Tim's video. Thank you Eley for standing by your product. Now that I'm past that issue, I really do like the hose real. It seems that the plastic ones just break eventually. Now I just need to save up to get 2 more Eley's for my other faucets!

My dad has an Eley 2 wheel portable reel. It's double digits old (15-16 years maybe?) Still works. Back then they went by the name "rapid reel" I still remember the day he was winding up his hose in a cheap plastic portable reel and it broke on him. He launched that sucka across his back yard lol.

I have the Hoselink for now 2 years. I love it. It spends more than 6 hours a day in the direct sun with no issue. I live in New England so it has to come in for the winter. Just detach the lead and lift it off the mount. I purchased a second mount to store it on in my garage in the winter. The only down side is the included plastic quick connects are junk. I also find it rewinds better if I first turn off the water. That is not really a problem since you want to walk it back anyway to control the rewind. I love this and think it is a great value!

First Aussie 😁. I’ve had my hoselink 25 m Hiflow hose reel out in the front yard for three years now and hasn’t let me down . You can buy covers for the reel body for sun protection and the hose has patented no burst hose connections. Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi. 🇦🇺

I'm interested in durability of the plastic retractable one. Hope you do a follow-up video in a couple months.
The Metal one appears more durable.
    What's the price difference?

Jeez, I like your reviews but wish you’d quit hauling the camera all over the yard with you. We can’t handle all the quick movements and bouncing all around. It’s far easier to view and focus on someone filmed with an in-place, steady camera. We disdain “modern” movies too that use way too much hand-held camera work. They do it supposedly as a simulation of a viewer’s perspective if he was on scene. But onscreen it’s not the viewer that’s moving, it’s what he’s looking at, which as it dances around is enough to make him seasick, if not at least diminish the story.
Well, that’s maybe exaggerating, but trying to focus on scene details at least gets fatiguing after a few minutes. Even with Steady-cam cameras, when I’m demonstrating something in a video of any length, I always use a fixed camera. Besides, you can demonstrate just about any process or product better with 2 hands than 1.
As to the reels, I have 3 Suncast models, one maybe 15-20 years old originally built by an Israeli company. One works fine. One I’ve had to disassemble twice to fix displaced O rings that jam and cause leaks and reel lockup. The newest one, about 7, worked okay til this season when it jams repeatedly trying to pull the hose out. It reels in automatically just fine, but I have to help the hose unreel by hand-turning the reel every few feet. Tomorrow I hope to have time to tear it apart and see what’s hanging up.
Your spring-loaded one is likely less problematic than my water-driven ones. My oldest one’s plastic swivel wall mount and bracketing is breaking down; I’ve patched it with epoxy several times over the last 7-8 years. Plastic is okay except for the wall-mounting apparatus... that and where the reel mounts to it should be rust-resistant metal, because of the hose weight and torque stresses. The only minus I expect from spring-loaded ones is that the spring will weaken over time.

Sounds silly, I wanted to get rid of the large bulky hoses and find that the auto expanding (Xhose) with the brass works awesome, I have had it for 2 years and the brass end actually has a hidden secret. If you squeeze it creates a jet spray. Once you are done it shrinks back up and easily goes in a plastic plant bucket the wife no longer uses. Have tried the others "as seen on tv" ones and are junk

Question is, how do you winterize the hoselink? Normally every winter I drain my hoses and store them in the garage. Can you simply leave the hoselink out all season? If that hose gets damaged over the winter with water still left inside, is the whole unit wrecked? I can’t see it being easy to replace the hoselink hose if ever punctured or damaged

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  4 роки тому

Great question! The whole hoselink is on a hinge you can lift it straight up and carry it inside.

I love the idea of the product overviews... Why make a 10 minute video covering something as simple as a hose reel. The plastic one that auto reels itself is nice but you already know that mechanism is going to break sooner or later and then it's toast. Cheap plastic..
I own the Eley hose reel too and they are very durable! I store it away for the Winter and it's easy enough to assemble / disassemble. I had no idea they made an extended version for longer hoses!
