    First Aussie 😁. Jimmy,I have (2) 25 metre hiflow hoselink hose reels with 14 mm hose. These hoses come with the patented non leak , non burst hose and tap quick connections. These hoses are easy to pull out and retract and come with a great spray gun. Most importantly , a greatAustralian company that prides itself on quality and customer satisfaction. 😎👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

    Also, I bought a product very similar to the hoselink by Giraffe Tools and they have a 5/8” 90’ hose option which I love. Quality seems very similar to hose link. You don’t even need to walk the hose back to the box!

    Thanks for the excellent reviews. We had an Eley at our last home and loved it. It lasted for years out in the elements on the beach and is still going with the new owners. Our new home is in land and I'm thinking Hoselink. It's been 2 years since this video was made so I was hoping they had come out with a 5/8". But no, only a 9/16".

    One of the issues with plastic is UV degradation.
    However, Hoselink are designed in Australia with plastic that far more UV stable. I say this as I’ve noticed (in Australia) other brands “chalking” over time as the plastic degrades through UV exposure to our harsh sunlight. However, I have not noticed this with the Hoselink reels in use by others.

    3 years ago I decided no more cheap hose reels. I don't have irrigation system but a smaller yard so sprinklers and hand water plants. Doing my research it was either Eley or hoselink. My fear was the plastic of the hoselink. Afraid after 3 years or so it would start to fail. But that's just me being a doubter based on the cheap ones. So I went with Eley and haven't regretted it at all. Got a 2nd one ( free standing model for the front yard - no mounting). It's out of sight and tucked away so for those that are concerned about the looks that model might be an option. I personally think it looks better than the cheap reels because it's low to the ground. I got the model on 2 wheels for my 84 year old mom and she loves it. By the way the water hose they sell is awesome too. Expensive but I can tell they will last many years.

    Great review , sounds like the old saying that you get what you pay for. If you want the more high end look get the Ely which has a long time warranty of 10 years and if you don’t mind the little bit of manual labor.
    On the other hand the hose link is cheaper and it has some great perks. The automatic retractable hose, swivel, and the quick connections that come with the hose link. Doesn’t matter if it’s made out of plastic or not. Sounds like the hose link is the better option depending on what it’s needed for.

    I bought an 82' Hoselink for my front but have not installed, weather issues. Wish I could get it in to use and help with backyard choice. I am debating between Eley or Hoselink for my backyard. I have a lawn service and wash my equipment daily and need strong pressure. The Eley seems like the right choice here but $900.00 compared to $300.00 for everything I need is quite a big jump.

    Had an Eley hose cart. Found it extremely hard to put together -- had to read instructions, watch videos, repeat over and over. Then it worked great and I loved it for a few months. Then internal pieces started getting loose falling apart and I couldn't figure out how to put it back together, so that was sad. The eley, had that industrial / commercial look that just fits in a yard. Also wonder how long the hose link will last after years of use, will the retract feature bow out early. Also, UV resistance of the plastic for the hose link? As they say, you get what you pay for, not many if any bad reviews on the eley.

    I bought the Eley.
    Reasons: 3/4" capability, longer hose and built to last. I use it with my pressure washer frequently and the extra volume required makes the difference.
    Like you say, longevity-wise, I can't imagine the plastic reels lasting more than 5 years in frequent use. Maybe I'm wrong.
    Worth mention, I got the freestanding unit (model 1042). No need to bolt it to the house or a post. A downside is it's low to the ground but that also keeps it discreet (tucks behind a bench.) It is heavy but otherwise easy to move.

    Great stuff Jimmy, thanks. I was one of the persons bugging you for a comparison 😀 Awesome review but I’m still torn. I’m pretty sure I’m going Eley though. Their quick connects, hose nozzle and 5/8” compatibility are making me lean that way. Super high quality but SOO expensive. And I hate that it doesn’t swivel. If I get one it’ll probably be the cart or I might try to put it on a 4x4 split by a boat seat swivel. Might work. But that retraction of Hoselink. Tough decision! Thanks again man!

      @@JimmyLewisMows Thought I would leave some additional feedback. I broke down and bought a Hoselink because… well why the hell not. To say this thing is convenient is a massive understatement. I switched to a backpack sprayer from the ortho just because lugging the hose around was such a pain. The first thing I did with this thing was put down an Air8/Dethatch cocktail. The Hoselink made that task SO MUCH EASIER. Fun fact, the model available in the states is the “hi-flow” version. I see no issue with the smaller ID of the hose. It’s so easy to retract, just pull more out and walk a little farther… but seriously, it’s a non issue. That said, the nozzle is average at best. I bought an Eley handle and can’t wait to use it. Three pros of the Eley or cons of the Hoselink are: 1. the Eley offers a 2-wheeled and a 4-wheeled version which means it can be moved around a yard to different spigots. My home has spigots located on 3 different outside walls. Pulling a hose around a 90 degree bend can be difficult, thus the wheeled mobility of the Eley is a big plus. 2. The wheeled Eley can be placed under a patio or in a garage to keep it out of the elements thus preventing quicker degradation of components and extending its service life. 3. Lastly the Eley is made in the USA, where is the Hoselink manufactured?

    Isn’t the hose link hose diameter 9/16”?

    A con for Hoselink is that the swivel doesn't lock. In an area with high winds, the swivel needs to be able to lock in place so it won't bang around in high wind.

      Thanks for commenting this, it’s good to know here in So Cal with our Santa Anas. I may need to make a wood stop for ours when I install it! Something that can flip up from its mounting post, or maybe I’ll use foam on the case or the corner of the house and let it swing free in the wind.

    From a woman’s perspective that loves turf flowers and everything in the yard the Eley is ugly! I like to keep things hidden or out of sight but still readily available for everyday use if needed the Eley would be a no go for me for that reason and the hose link isn’t so great either appearance wise but it’s more attractive in comparison, in my opinion.

    Hey Jimmy I’m looking at hose link site and it says that the hose they use is a 9/16” hose can you tell me have they upgraded the hose since this video or is it truly a 1/2” they are using

  • @ColeSpolaric

    The additional con of the Eley is that it doesn't guide the hose onto the reel, leaving a messy looking hose. An additional con of the hoselink is that you can't use your own hose. I don't need another hose.

    Jimmy, just one comment. Do not confuse water pressure and water volume coming out of your hose. They are not the same.

    • @jeta1f35
      @jeta1f35 Рік тому

      Good comment, the diameter of the hose does NOT affect the pressure it affects flow rate, these two factors are widely misunderstood. It is a shame the reviewer does not understand this. However all other comments are well made.

    To say the Eley is a lot more expensive is simply not true in fact they are about the same price right now $207 vs $199
    2 year warranty vs 10 year and American made...Hands down Eley!!!!

    • @aanneell
      @aanneell 3 роки тому +1

      add at least $40-$50 for 100ft of hose.

    • @DMCnME
      @DMCnME 3 роки тому +2

      @@aanneell Add some quick connects and a nozzle… then you have apples to apples. Compare costs at that point. Eley is way more expensive. I’m still going that way though 😀 I don’t mind paying for quality.

    The first one seems like a harbor freight version just a simple thing. The second one seems like something that was engineered much more.
