    WHOOPS: YOU KEEP YOUR COMBAT TRACK UNTIL IT IS FULL! PAGE 17 OF BOOK 1 CLEARLY SAYS THIS. I MADE THIS MISTAKE OF A NEW COMBAT TRACK IN THE FIRST 3 VIDEOS. RETCONNED BEFORE QUEST: DUNGEON TRAINING 4 (it didn't make a huge difference, just a few stat increases I was missing, but was able to fix).

    Working alone all day today to finish up a big project before Monday.
    I can not imagine a more relaxing, fun, and pleasant companion to have playing in the background than you with your joy, excitement, and a great game.

    I have all 7 of the current books. If you like solo, and just want to focus on 1 PC in a game made for 1 PC, then D100 Dungeon has no competition. But in the realm of solo, it has to compete with 4AD Four Against Darkness which employs 4 adventurers. 4AD currently has maybe more content and range, but D100 likely has some of the hobby's best physical product out there. The books are VERY well made.

      I have been wanting to get back to D100 Dungeon (I have been thinking about it at least once a day for the last month) but there's just so many games to play it's hard to circle back because I lack self control :D
      I am trying to get familiar with 4AD and 2D6 Dungeon at the moment, and they're all "similar-ish" (a book and some grid paper), so I don't want to confuse myself by jumping around (I'm bad enough with rules as it is).

      Whatever you do, make sure you have both 3mil and 5mil. :) Roll and write pages and often handled stuff feels WAY better in 5mil. Also handy for various projects around the house. I now have some semblance of a cookbook (3mil) that will survive longer than my children's children's children. >.>

    helpful vid and a great approach for beginners. one thing I did when starting with pdf systems is take the rule book to staples or ups to have them coil bind it with sometimes sheet protect pages. made a big diff and was fairly inexpensive, that way you can get a high quality book and even a nice high quality color cover.

      I did not do this with mine as they're hardback, but definitely would with paperback. I did so with my 2D6 Dungeon Tables Codex, it was only a few dollars to have them do it.

    Also, the D100 Adventures Guide introduces a new optional rule for adjusted Encounter Table rolls of less than 1 or greater than 100. Basically re-roll 2d10+15 (for less than 1) or 2d10+80 for more than 100 - helpful if you’re looking for particular loot.

    I’m currently running “Dungeon Training 1” but with encounter table “EA” from the Adventurer’s Companion! With the “-40” Encounter Modifier, I have to roll at least a “95” or so to possibly get any parts!!

    Only about an hour in, but I do really like this playthrough, this is a great job. Especially for the fact that you have clearly read the rules and played it a bit first, so you're not making a ton of errors like most first-time playthroughs which can get very frustrating to watch. It's pretty much impossible to get this game right the first time through, but it's really worth learning.
    Just in the first hour I'll answer a couple "questions" that I'm sure you probably already know by now:
    * You are correct that starting equipment has no damage pips. Same with purchased equipment between quests. You only roll for item damage if you find it on a quest.
    * You are correct that weapons & armor go into the top section of the backpack sheet that has the damage trackers, and these are not stackable. The bottom section that doesn't have damage tracks on it is for items and those can be stacked up to 10 of the (exact) same item per slot.
    * When it's a two-handed weapon, I just put a light line through the off-hand slot to remind myself that I can't hold a shield with that weapon.

    • @CeePhour
      @CeePhour  8 місяців тому +1

      Awesome! Thank you! I wasn't quite 100% sure on these things. I feel like I fell into a little bit of "making up rules that don't exist because they *ahem* don't-explicitly-NOT-exist" which is an easy trap I often fall in to. For example, I could easily imagine buying gear in the bazaar isn't perfect, and might come with damage pips.
      Thank you so much for clarifying the gear in the backpack, I felt it made the most sense from a "physical capacity" standpoint. "Unequipped weapons/armor in the backpack" was a little weird because somewhere something (book or sheet) says something like "if they have damage on them" which is different than "CAN be damaged".
      I love this idea of just marking off the Off-hand line. My question is if I get hit on my off-hand, can I then apply "deflected damage" to the weapon? Essentially it has two possibilities of getting hit?
      I know I forgot the +5 on the Find roll in the green zone I found towards the end of Dungeon Training 2 (I noted this in the description and Klingon subtitles) and forgot to bump it up, this only changed my gold by 100, so it's easy to fix.
      Please feel free to point out any mistakes I didn't catch. It makes us all better players!

    • @Tarryk
      @Tarryk 8 місяців тому +1

      @@CeePhour Outstanding insights. I hadn't ever thought of applying damage at the market, that could be an interesting house rule. It would ultimately cost the same but if it's a bit busted up, might make it affordable in tough times.
      To answer on the 2H weapons, you are right again, since you're holding it with both hands you may consider every hit to your off-hand as a hit on your main hand.

    Dude? I just wanna say that I love your vids - other youtubers go on for about 1 and a 1/2 hrs about - er - stuff before they play the game. I watched - well, skipped forward alot - one youtuber, 1 hour 40 mins in a 'playthrough' vid and they didn't even start an adventure. So 1 hour and 40 mins and who knows what the game loop is... But yours? Here's where you buy it, here's the cost, here's how to role a character, now lets play. Beautiful. I was in two minds over D100 or 2D6 but I've decided on D100 first (might get and play 2D6 later, or maybe 4 against darkness?) because of your vids. Thank you man, you've done me a solid, you really have. And believe it or not? But I'm not going to buy the pc software... There's something about looking at tables and seeing that Spider Queen or Vamp bats or weapons or armour before you roll? And the geography or search tables? (should I run this for the quest or just get loads of drops, bail and, because it's half the cash but the items retain their value, search every room and hope for items...? Sell them all and look for more armour pieces? Then go hard for the Quest? Ya know?) I haven't even bought it yet and I'm already invested. Thank you buddy, seriously, thank you. And yes, I'll keep my combat tracker going till it's full! :D

    Hi thanks for the demo. Pretty sure that if a monster escapes (like your vampire bat) he does not remain on the map. You only add it to the area if _the player_ escapes.

    Hey, Cee! Great gameplay, as usual. Nice lucky rolls there, Claymore is godly! Also, you play really well for a self-proclaimed beginner. :)
    The Vampire Bat is gone, by the way. It remains in the area only if the hero escapes. Monsters escaping removes them completely from the map and the combat track.
    Also, the combat track continues to be filled from one dungeon to the next (otherwise, you would never get to the bottom of the rewards list - and +1HP is quite valuable, as you noticed in town :)).
    I really enjoyed this video and I look forward to the next episodes.
    My opinion: 4AD does not hold well against D100. In my view, it's a not so well done, boring, but accessible cash grab (Skyrim).
    D100 Dungeon is more serious and much more in-depth for combat (Dark Souls), much better systems, and no ineffective party "tactics". A bit too many tables and character sheet is atrocious... But with Worldbuilder, it rises to a different level, that 4AD has little chance (or interest) to reach.

    • @CeePhour
      @CeePhour  7 місяців тому

      I was corrected on the Combat Track later on, and I was able to retcon it :) I put some notes in the descriptions of the videos clarifying my mistakes. Thankfully Martin caught me and corrected me! It's not like it wasn't clear in the book, I just spaced it. That's one of the biggest things - D100 is so clear and methodical. It runs like a Swiss watch. That's a sign of a great design from the start.
      4AD has some great ideas, and is definitely fun. I'm sure with a ton of supplements it's very robust and can do a lot, but... I just don't like having to spend so much time looking up forum posts for answers. Information is scattered everywhere, and half of it seems to be someone's interpretation. I don't know if MORE supplements help or hinder that. In my opinion, as a completely new player to it (so not worth much), it desperately needs a rewrite. A Second Edition, with the current books compiled into two or three tomes and a lot of clarity on the rules.

      Having just discovered this world of "solo dungeon crawlers from books" (as opposed to board games) I'm not familiar with any others. I keep running across D100 Dungeon, Four Against Darkness, and recently, 2D6 Dungeon. Have you played the others? I am experimenting with 4AD at the moment, and 2D6 Dungeon soon.
      I'm not experienced enough to make any judgements, but what I can say is that I absolutely LOVE that everything in D100 Dungeon is written absolutely clearly. Everything is easy to find and understand. Every time there is a check for something, like picking locks, it is written RIGHT THERE; not buried in a random paragraph under Dexterity in the character creation section (for example). Information is always found where it "should be". The only mistakes in D100 Dungeon I've made were my own fault. Simply me plain forgetting. None of them were to being confused due to wording or keywords (I messed up the picking locks time penalty and the monster tracker sheet at first, not because it was written poorly, but because I simply forgot the rule). I cannot say the same about other games >.>
      I'm torn on the D100 Dungeon Mapping Game tiles. On one hand, assuming I understand it correctly (and I very well may not, feel free to correct me), there's ONE copy of each room in tile form. That means you're mitigating "really bad luck" if you're looking to find a blue room, it's guaranteed that you will eventually. I like this, and it could be easily adapted by just adding the house rule "if you've already rolled that room, instead draw the next room number down". So if I already rolled room 88, I would draw 87 instead.
      On the other hand, sometimes it's OK to experience the frustration and just deal with your bad luck when you roll the same rooms over and over. :)

      JUST YOU WAIT! I have apparently stumbled into a set of loaded dice. Which is great for treasure rolls, buuuuuut not so great for monster attack/damage rolls!
      I have never played anything like this before (only AD&D 2nd Edition in the... *ahem* _late_nineteen_hundreds_ ), and I don't pretend(/lie to myself) that I will find a TTRPG group at this point in my life. It's hard enough to get people together for a one-off board game night. So, it's the solo life for me. www.reddit.com/r/solo_roleplaying has been a fascination of mine, and it led me to D100 Dungeon (among others, such as Ironsworn, FOUR Against Darkness, and others). But I must say, D100 Dungeon is really scratching an itch!
      I put timestamps in the video description for the rolls that blew my mind (the three !'s, they have to be less than three characters or UA-cam makes them chapters), and notations in the Klingon subtitles. Some math person (come to think of it, know a math professor, I should ask her) should tell me the odds on these rolls that came up in the number of d100 rolls I made.

All you needed to say is this isnt for me but if this is something you want to checkout its on page so and so. And then move on. I'm not saying you should like or try it just don't spend so much time complaining about something. I mean you started repeating yourself in just a few minutes. Other than that good video.
