I went hiking alone in black star canyon following the trail and a huge ass condor tried to eat me!!! It hovered all the way down to make eye contact but then left scared the shit outta me
Fortunately, They are making a comeback. I grew up in the central valley in the 90s and early 2000s and I never saw one. It's only this decade when I finally started to see them while driving in to other towns in and around the fields of the central valley. They are truly majestic when they soar.
They were very lucky. They were at one time extinct in the wild and the remaining 9 had to captured and taken into captive breeding. Thanks to the efforts of zoos and conservationists, there are now 425 California Condors that are either in captivity or the wild. They've got a long way to go get off the Endangered Species List, but they have a better chance of survival now.
deathincarnate Atheist What amazes me is that animal rights people think conservationists and zookeepers shouldn't interfere. Our work in saving animals speaks for itself in many ways.
Matthew Meyer oh I see a bunch of buzzards but the California condor is unmistakable when it soars. The huge wingspan and white under the wings give them away. I'm also seeing a bunch of golden eagles this time of year too.
@Vanguarded_Heart 117 thats how it used to be and it used to be plentiful in every way. You couldn't walk through a forest bc some were so thick with trees formed together only until after humans killed most of them... You imagine a forest being spacious no they aren't not until human interference Natural untouched forests would have too much growth to travel through unless you were a monkey or cat lol. And also overpopulated in every type of species which was perfect for hunters to live in an untouched ecosystem.
I remember as a kid in mid 80s in california the urgency of saving the condor. It was common knowledge at my school. It is wonderful to see the success in saving these birds. If I remember, there were only 22 left back in my kid days. We are approaching 1000 now. Fantastic!
It wasn't just California. I schooled in Massachusetts during that time and we often heard of the species and the plight they faced for survival. I remember seeing PSA about saving the bird.
My favorite bird, since I was a little kid...had a Revell model kit, of a California Condor. Thanks, to these wonderful people for giving this majestic animal a second chance.
they re-released them first to Pinicles National Monument. I remember seeing birds tagged #3 and #7 feeding on a dead deer there about 4 years ago. So glad they're making a comeback
I'm so glad the conservation experts stepped up to the plate and got this situation under control. Only twenty-two condors left in 1987? That is scary. The condor has an important place in nature, as do all animals.
My favorite is the broken egg that Michael Clark at the LA zoo managed to hatch....really phenomenal work that these people do! Sleeping in nests (in high up cliffs and tree roosts) while the babies are being operated on....everything!
2:00 has to be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. This man just captured majority of a species of motherfucking birds that mind you have wings and can fly, with an upgraded butterfly net. We are talking in the 1900’s too, no cellphones to even pull up google maps to know where you even are let alone where one of the rarest species in the entire world is about to land. Who knows how many hours this man was laying down on the top of a god damn mountain with his butterfly net thinking “you know maybe this is kinda stupid” until it fucking worked. I don’t know what I was expecting when I looked up California condor on UA-cam but whatever I expected wasn’t this and my mind is blown away.
I remember when the concern that condors would go extinct. I'm so thankful for all those who have worked so hard to bring them back! They are a magnificent bird!
it's so sad that our trash is killing these birds. 🐦 humans are so selfish. I never litter and I recycle but one person won't change the world. we need to come together and realize how our actions affect our environment and animals in it.
same but who nows borneo because i live there theres no condors or vulture im so sad but who wants to come here its weird and theres aprince name sultan
You throw your trash away right? And you do realize that sometimes people that take care of the trash don't put them where they belong and put them in the ocean. So it's not all humans, it's just lazy people who don't carr
Let’s be honest, even if you are famous and make a speech about how littering is bad most people won’t listen. Yes you can live your whole life being good and shaming those who aren’t but people are going to be people. This planted doomed. Unless at least 25% of the population comes together and helps this global problems nothing Is going to change. Just live your life as it is and hopefully someone will acknowledge that.
I went to the Oregon zoo and was lucky to see the condor captivity, it was amazing to see such a huge bird, they may not seem that big standing but once you see that wing span you really understand just how huge and majestic they really are
thank you for not letting these animals vanish, as well as those who saved our bald eagles. I saw a bald eagle in my area last year, this is the first time ive ever seen one here it made me very happy.
Just in time I came across this video , I’ve been driving today along the highway 14 over the Columbia river gorge and I saw them flying over the rest area where I was parked , that was so beautiful seeing them around 🦅 I thought they were river hawks thanks for you video now I know the rest of the history ✌🏾
The program organized by the oregon zoo and other organization is a one step forward in conserving these California condors. I hope that there will be the same as your program here in the Philippines to help the Philippine eagles sustain their race in wild for the next generations.
yes the Philippine eagle is one of my favorite birds of prey and their population is increasing. :-) i feac there was a 50,000 dollar fine if on man kills one. Is that true?
I read there are over 400! all in all I saw one in the wild here in Utah was a beautiful heart warming sight to see such a majestic bird given a second lease on life!
Help me help the condors. Keep a flat shovel in your car trunk and when you see a road kill, pull over and scoop road kill off road--far off road at least 50ft. If the road kill is a deer, you need a strong stick with a sharp hook on the end of it. I keep an old broom stick with a hook on end in my wagon-it's perfect for pulling a dead deer off road. Keeping road kills off the road helps save the lives of predators and feeds the condors. thanks
The bald eagle came back from the brink. I've had my fingers crossed for these graceful birds for thirty years now. 200, even 500 wild birds, is still dangerously low. You need ten or twenty times that number in many isolated habitats to encourage gene diversity and protect against some new bird virus wiping out the entire population (see harbor seal). Thank you West Coast zoos for taking on this important project.
Beautiful video!! We gained interest in this while observing two vultures (or condors) on a dead tree just north of Zion National Park and just south of Kolob Lake, UT. Because we didn't have binoculars with us and the quality of the pictures we are not sure if we have Condors or Vultures, but we will figure it out. What this encounter did was increase our interest in these rare birds. We thank you for what you are doing!!!
Condors are New World vultures, so there’s no actual difference other than names and some phylogenetics between the species! Oh, and that the two vulture species known as condors are the largest of New World vultures and vultures in general. :)
The only time I went to Florida I saw one. My first full day my cousins and I walked out into the parking lot and there was a MASSIVE bird just sitting there looking at us. I was like WTF is that! And my cousin informed me that it was a condor and that we're lucky to see it because it's a rare sight in Florida.
Hunters need to realize that their bullets are not just killing intended prey, but also scavengers of said prey. Maybe they ought to make sure to not leave those lead-containing carcasses behind.
saw a giant one about 20 or 30 miles North of Goldendale, WA (south of Yakima) last summer. It was having trouble flying and was walking around the freeway. It was huge... probably had a wing span over 9 ft. It was taller than the hood of my car.
The California condor was extincted by human encroachment. Smh. The recovery mission brought them back with the last condor and in 2019: 300 in the wild. 200 in captivity breeding programs. Those condor keepers can be very proud!
2 years ago I saw a giant condor in Colorado by Delta Colorado black with red tipped Wing feathers and tail although I have video it's hard to make out but you can tell it was huge it flew with a white eagle
3 separate times myself, sister or both of us have seen huge bird. 2 times were at night. Ive never seen a bird that size in my life! Im in pacific wa. And am baffled! What giant bird would be flying around at night??
If humans disappeared altogether, would they be hardy enough to bounce back from the damage humanity already made until it all dissipated? Or would they die off, too far gone?
nice video bird guys! Looking to find out how big is a condor. You say biggest in north america, how many feet long? are there any birds bigger? how fast are them big ole boys?
California condor more bigger in height but andean condor have largest Wingspan and much weight yeah the two of this vulture is the largest vulture Species
God bless everyone working on saving these majestic beautiful birds
Instead of calling them california condors, I want to call them california condoms
Majestic yes, beautiful? Lol. Ugly things!
Steve odonoghue u ugly im sure
I went hiking alone in black star canyon following the trail and a huge ass condor tried to eat me!!! It hovered all the way down to make eye contact but then left scared the shit outta me
@Baldhina Asnake is everything ok at home??
It’s so reassuring to know that there are people on this planet so dedicated to preserving wildlife like this!!!
Absolutely
Totally.

So youve never seen a regular vulture? or just condors in particular?
Matthew Meyer oh I see a bunch of buzzards but the California condor is unmistakable when it soars. The huge wingspan and white under the wings give them away. I'm also seeing a bunch of golden eagles this time of year too.
there are almost 500 hundred california condors in 2019. beautiful news!

I even heard about their plight here in Australia in the 80’s.
That’s amazing
I don't care if these birds are vultures, or ugly. They deserve to keep living. Beautiful birds as far as i'm concerned.
They're not ugly.
Who says they're ugly! Damn fools! 😄
They are beautiful
My favorite bird, since I was a little kid...had a Revell model kit, of a California Condor. Thanks, to these wonderful people for giving this majestic animal a second chance.
Oregon Zoo
thank you for your great job
Just saw a California Condor near my house in New Mexico, top personal all time bird sighting
Absolutely beautiful bird. It saddens me that we as humans don’t care about or take for granted the beauty of nature
they re-released them first to Pinicles National Monument. I remember seeing birds tagged #3 and #7 feeding on a dead deer there about 4 years ago. So glad they're making a comeback

Thank you for the great work you do saving our condors. Their future is brighter. I hope to see one someday.
BEAUTIFUL!!!....
BEAUTIFUL BIRD!!!.
i LOVE CONDORS!!!.

One landed on my fence in Elsinore years ago. I was blown away and in shock.

*i hope they rebound back...they are so amazing...hope to see one in the flesh one day! Great work guys keep it up*
Thank you to the people who take care of the C. Condors :)
That moment when a member of the vulture family is one of the prettiest birds in my mind.
god bless entire team and their family for this great job. thankful to the government for all the support.

the world is awash in plastic bags and other plastics, which kill many species.
There are so many amazing people in this world. Keep up the good work 👏 👍
I went to the Oregon zoo and was lucky to see the condor captivity, it was amazing to see such a huge bird, they may not seem that big standing but once you see that wing span you really understand just how huge and majestic they really are

California condor Philippine eagle duo of endangered Giant bird That's a nickname for them
Great and beautiful bird🌷🌷🌹🌹
They are truly beautiful birds. They they have the cutest faces
Why can't we be more aware of other creatures. We have polluted our earth by selfish means 😔
Very cool animal. I saw a wild one at the Grand canyon about seven years ago!
I read there are over 400! all in all I saw one in the wild here in Utah was a beautiful heart warming sight to see such a majestic bird given a second lease on life!
Awesome work you’re doing. Thanks for saving this big Buzzard of the sky.
Thanks for this wonderful and informative video. Way better than reading Wikipedia.
I saw one on my way up to the north rim Grand Canyon sept.2017..it was huge !
strake750 ~~~~~ I saw them in the Grand Canyon too. I will never forget that as long as I live. Beautiful!
They are awesome birds.
Amazing, thank you all
Badass birds!

They have comical faces but my are they majestic when they're flying!
I really would love to see one in the wild.
I actually watched this after my. Field trip to Sonora because t was about defining birds footstep’s and feather type’s
The bald eagle came back from the brink. I've had my fingers crossed for these graceful birds for thirty years now. 200, even 500 wild birds, is still dangerously low. I was thinking the same thing especially with the ongoing concerns if the H5N1 avian influenza variant and it’s threat to at-risk populations.
Hi there and thank you for this video! They are a trifle scary looking, but majestic creatures nonetheless!
yayyy yayy yayy i love you all from my heart
I saw a couple in Pasadena, Ca
I couldn’t believe it !
Saw another one in Hollywood
They’re stunning animals
all these exotic birds animals and fish needs the be protected no matter where it is
Keep up the good work!

I am 100 ppl recent sure absolutely without a doubt for certain that is the bird I saw
Great effort of us fish and wildlife service

That was probably a Turkey vulture, Condors range doesn’t include Florida
@@WorldwideWyatt yes a turkey vulture with a 10 ft wingspan. They do occasionally appear in florida.
I love Condor's!!!!
condor are soooooooooooooooooo cute
These birds look like a turkey.
+Fabian Abarca ik
Fabian Abarca no he is a vulture
Non lead ammunition just makes sense. Non lead ammunition should be required everywhere.
You guys are the image of God 🙏
One day i would like to see them live.. 🙂
Beautiful birb🐤
So magical

Yes, wing span 9 feet! Amazing, we are releasing in Oregon
Nice video!
These things are so cool :) Favorite animal.
I love California condors
Informative. 👍

I was actually hiking in Berkeley a few weeks ago and had one fly like 20 feet above me
Once again humans are the problem for animals dying thank you for trying to fix the damage done x
Genuinely saddened but unsurprised that their main obstacles are human made.
They're basically ginormous Vultures (biggest in the world).
Hi I love condors
they are beautiful
😍❤
Have you guys heard of a "sky burial"? I think if we start doing sky burials the condors would repopulate a lot sooner.
If humans disappeared altogether, would they be hardy enough to bounce back from the damage humanity already made until it all dissipated? Or would they die off, too far gone?
Those condors exist on the time where Mammoths existed.
Yo vi uno Aqui en Santa Barbara y paso por encima de mi carro q hasta pare para verlo volar !! Era gigante
I really want to see some california condors in the yuma county.
So pretty
I seen a wild one once in my life in Morgan hill Ca
nice video bird guys! Looking to find out how big is a condor. You say biggest in north america, how many feet long? are there any birds bigger? how fast are them big ole boys?
This kinda bird as well as the Andean condor can pick us up and sore with one of us.
Don't you think he looks spookily like Jim Royal? From the Royal Family sitcom.
WOW
Maybe I'm quibbling, but 200, while a definite improvement, still sounds like the brink of extinction to me.
There’s 537 as of 2021. Possibly more now with this year’s chicks
condors live from the dinosaurs and they survive
xxxpackers fan yea there pretty neat huh?
The condors ( and native Americans) were doing just fine until "the man" arrived from Europe...
Linda ave espetacular.👍🏻🤝🏻💪🏻
A big salute for americans to timely protect the wild creature,... Get well :
Success story yes
I hope they still doing OK with all the wildfires.
Are they smaller or same size than the southamerican condor? The Andes condor are huge...just curious
slightly smaller, as in 10 foot wingspan instead of 11 foot wingspan.
California condor more bigger in height but andean condor have largest Wingspan and much weight yeah the two of this vulture is the largest vulture Species
However, the ancestors of the California condor were said to be much bigger.
