The California condors are among my absolute favorite animals at the Oregon Zoo, and they truly symbolize that wildlife conservation can result in major comebacks of people get their acts together and cooperate to make change. :D I feel honored that the Oregon Zoo joined the effort and has made strides in the recovery of these New World vultures. This video provides an excellent insight to the facility’s condors! :) I hope you continue to get visitors and/or donations to keep operating in these trying days.
California Condors were my #1 reason to visit the Zoo, when I was up there a few years ago. I would love to see them in the wild, here in California, some time.
🌺👍 So wonderful to see these amazing animals. Their story is so tragic yet there is still hope that people care enough to try to save them. Thanks so much for showing us this one up close. - H
Awesome video. Have you guys thought of an ambassadorship program for Oregon gun store owners? Maybe if they got to see these amazing animals up close they would be more inclined to not carry lead ammo or at least provide information to their customers about the harmful effects it has on our shared environment.
Great to save them from extinction I can only help them by watching their videos. Here in Chile the condor is on our national coat of arms and in a popular comic character "Condorito" _,,,_dº¿ºb_,,,_
I live in southern Utah, where these birds live , but I think I’ve seen them by Zion as well in Utah which I live right by Zion. They are so cool my favorite birds by the way.
to whom it may concern. when i was a boy we met some people in glendora ca. hencefourth they moved to capenteria ca . they started a program there with intent to captive breed and release wild condors . the project became so politicly charged that they had to stop. this was in the 1970s . its nce to see people keep this bird population going. thanks for your hard work oregon zoo.
Wonderful job of conserving these beautiful birds! Thank you for all your hard work. I have a question. These birds are very social yet the chicks are raised without siblings & occasional parental food visits. Why so much solitude? I really love to watch them being busy in their captive quarters. Very interesting❤️🦤
Oh my goodness is this really a condor. I would have thought vulcher or a wild turkey. Maybe that's why they are extinct. Such a noble face too beautiful for words.
A question: the necks a saw what I believe is a condor and the neck was extra long, say 3 large curves in it. It was in the tall tree that has been home to a family of turkey hawks. The one thing not mentioned in this article was the neck. Everything else is spot on. Riverbank Stanislaus County
Driving west of Portland on April 8, 2021 we saw one in the swamp area next to the highway. We were on hwy 26 headed to Tillamook. I was so surprised! It was huge. Appeared juvenile but I could be wrong. Do you think it was really a condor?
Device To Speed Up Internet Reuters Washington, April 9. - A device that operates at very low voltage but can quickly convert signals into optical transmissions promises to make surfing the web a snap, researchers have said. The device, a modulator called an "opto-chip", could also act as a steering device for radar and satellite communications, the researchers report in the journal Science. It can convert electric signals into optical transmissions at a rate of 100 gigabytes of information per second, said Larry Dalton, a chemist at the University of Washington and University of Southern California who helped lead the study. "These electro-optic modulators will permit real time communication. You won't have to wait for your computer to download even the largest files," Dalton said in a statement on Thursday. "We'll be able to take telephone signals, computer data, TV signals - any type of signal you can think of - put it on fibre optic, route it around the world with almost no optical signal loss, and accomplish this with infinite bandwidth, he added. "It has the potential of revolutionising the way we all function." Modulators act like translators, encoding electrical signals onto optical beams that can carry the information. The best ones have large bandwidth - a reference to the capacity to carry information - but need little electricity to work. Dalton and his colleagues tried using organic molecules called chromophores, embedded in a polymer matrix. Chromophores are known for their electro-optic capabilities and Scientists have been tinkering with them for years, but they tend to interfere with one another. The researchers changed the shape of the chromophores, and found this alternation minimised the clash in their electrical fields. California Condor's losses are more to due with habitat loss and environment pollution than being hunted. In fact, it a miracle they're still here, given their fossil records tell us they lived during a time when large mammals existed in North America. The fact they outlasted the large mammals that they once feasted on is a miracle to their adaptations.

Anyone else feel intimidated by these guys?
Nop
More like in awe of them.
Just you napoleon
Don’t the condors have names?
What's the species of large avian that has the white collar round their neck? Is it a species of condor as well?
A face only a mother can love.

Cool

What do I need to go to school for to do something like this? I'd love to work with endangered species and exotic animals. It's my dream job.
Its time to kick gum and chew ass, but im all out of ass.
My soul to take
are these birds related to the ones in south america? or are they a seperate speicies ? thanks/
Separate species. Andean condor (Vultur gryphus)

What happened? Why did their number so low?
Can you breed California condors with the other kind condor all South America known as Andrea condor my name is Thomas Love
Too small
Stop being so PC with hunters.
I agree.
Relax Condors are not as tasty as bald eagles 🦅, bison or sea turtles 🐢

Beautiful but ugly at the same time but guess they have to be to do the job they do. 😁
