Prof Gore, thanks one more for this wonderful lecture and it has come at a time when God opened my eyes to the words of Psalms 105:8-10 and I have been meditating on it. Because God remembered his covenant to the descendants of Abraham (Exodus 23-24), He sent them a saviour, Moses (Exodus 3:6-8). And if the words of Romans 2:29 is applied to the Christians as Covenant people of God, He sent them another saviour, Constantine. Just like in Exodus, God gave the victory to his messenger while the enemies, with their horses and riders were drown in the sea. Halleluyah! Our God is awesome, He is wise in heart and mighty in strength, who hath hardened himself against him and hath prospered? None! To God be all the glory!

wow...speechless. Thanks especially for clarifying that The Holy City of St. John's Revelation is the city of God on Earth and that we, our bodies, are God's Temple on Earth. Most people want to push that imagery into a supernatural Heaven, I think, because they don't want to take responsibility for building Christ's Kingdom on Earth. There is this elitist misinterpretation of scripture that only we and our group are to be saved and everybody else can be excluded. I see some of that in John's vision, but I also think he means for us to continue working, century after century to spread Christ's love to all the nations, to all people. People certainly have the freedom to reject it without being slaughtered as heretics, but we must offer it to everyone and build a world that loves like Christ here on earth, not just escape after we die to some distant heaven. That vision makes all the difference, doesn't it. Thank you for making Jesus' compassion for this world so clear.

Just starting this today, which you suggested. I was wondering. Is there any mention of early church leaders from different sects that mentioned baptism for the dead?

    • @GoreBruce
      @GoreBruce  3 роки тому +2

I am not aware of any specific reference to 'baptism for the dead' in early Christian writing, and it was certainly not part of any known Christian practice. Paul's allusion in 1 Cor. 15 appears to have been a reference to a known practice in the religious practice of the Roman world, arguing that even those outside the Christian or Jewish understanding had an instinct of resurrection (or life after death).
The book Under the Influence by Alvin Schmidt is excellent on the question of the Christian influence in history:

@@mightyeagle51 of course there was a bible. "By the time of the Diocletianic persecution in 303 Roman authorities, in their campaign to confiscate Christian property, included the requirement that Christian books be handed in and burned. In the words of Eusebius, "We saw with our very eyes ... the inspired and sacred scriptures committed to the flames in the marketplaces" in response to the imperial letter "ordering the destruction by fire of the scriptures" (Hist. eccl. 8.2.l and 4). The requirement showed that the authorities knew Christians had an identifiable set of holy writings and knew their importance to the Christian communities. Hierocles, governor of Bithynia and the chief promoter of the persecution, knew the Christian Bible, and had already attempted in two books against the Christians "to prove the falsehood of sacred scripture," by which was meant Christian sacred writings, as the reference to Paul and Peter makes clear. Christians themselves thought they had an identifiable set of scriptures, for they immediately experienced a moral dilemma over giving up documents to the authorities, an issue that became the occasion for the Donatist schism. Christians might hide writings, try to pass off apocryphal and heretical texts, or in some cases debate what to hand over and what not to, but for the most part they knew what books the soldiers were looking for." @@bonnenaturel6688 You are confused. Yes, they knew the Scriptures, but that was not they bible yet. The wasn't even a cannon as to what books were to be included. The Scriptures you are referring to were the Septuagint. That is not quite a Bible yet. And even if it were, there is no evidence that Constantine participated in the burning of these books. Let me correct you on this point.
      1. The Scriptures that were burnt was the Septuagint. The Scriptures that were often quoted were from the Septuagint. Furthermore, the Scriptures that were burned were not limited to the books that are now called the bible. There were many more books written which never made it into the bible and were still being burned by the pagan rulers.
      2. It is funny that you cite Eusebius of Caesaria but fail to take into account the times referred. To be specific, you cited from book 8 of Historia Ecclesiastica. If you look more closeley. You will see that it is actually the total opposite. Those who burned the Scritpres were Diocletian and Maxentius. Their rule predates the time of Constantine.

Hi Pastor Gore. I understand that early "Christian" thinkers did not have the centuries of Christian thought which have informed our own faith in Christ. But can they still be called "Christian" when they deny the Trinity or, in the very least, the deity of the Lord Jesus (like Arius and others)? Certainly, today neither Baptists nor strong Presbyterians like yourself would consider the Jehovah's Witnesses saved or Christian. This question is not meant, at all, to be provocative.

Yes, it's an interesting question. I don't pretend to know the state of the heart of early Christians who had misguided ideas. It certainly seems that our understanding has gradually, but dramatically, improved over the centuries and that we should always be seeking to embrace the truth of Christ as accurately as possible, relying on the wisdom of our many fathers and mothers in the faith.

Worth noting that the Apostolic Christians weren't trinitarian... Matthew 28:19 wasn't in the original Hebrew, but added later to the Greek. The Spirit IS God, not a separate 'person'. In John 20:22, Jesus tells us the truth: "Receive ye the Holy Spirit".
Trinitarianism is a 'three god' idea that the pagan Vatican Antichrist has pushed from the start.

We need to consider early Apostolic Christianity from Satan's perspective.
Persecution hadn't worked so he had Constantine pretend to become 'christian', along with his mother, and the pagan world subsumed Christianity. The final 10 years of Diocletian Persecution, prophesied in Revelations 2:10, is the final set up to persuade Christians that Constantine was serious about conversion.
The dream cross sign was a self-evident fraud.
His rule is the set up for the later pagan Vatican Antichrist, which continued to persecute Apostolic Christians.

@32:05 you asserted that faith cannot be induced by force or bribery, but the Islamic world was established by the sword and persecution and has persisted for 1400 years. I therefore believe that faith can, at least in a substantial proportion of people, be induced by coercive force. This is unfortunate, but I see no other possible inference. Unless, of course, you were only referring to the true faith in Christ.

Submission can certainly be induced, in many cases, by force or coercion. Genuine faith in Christ can not be induced either by force or by enticement, only by God's Spirit.

Jesus death opened the way of salvation for humanity .
God told Adam that if he eats from that tree he, Adam will die.
By disobeying God and eating from that tree Adam sined that is the original sin.
      Romans 6,23 says
"For the wages sin pays is death"
Therefore, Adam payed for that sin with his life.
And that sin was past on to Adam's offspring of which we are.
Then to get our sins wiped we die.
Romans 6 verse 7 says " for the one who has died has been acquitted from his sins"
Kind of harsh punishment but Adam was responsible for the rest of humans by how he obeyed his Creator.
Romans 5 verse 12 says " As through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin and so death spread to all men because they all sinned ".
This is it, we take it or leave it.
Well, through resurrection we come back to a kind of life God prepared for humans ,a perfect one like Adam enjoyed before he decided to follow Satan.

@@tomidomusic Provide your sources. For as much, none of the research that I have seen state that Homousios was condemned in any council, except the Council of the Oak. That one was also held in Antioch and I assume it is the one you must be referring to. However, it was not during the time of Paul of Samosata. It was much later. It was also called a Robber Council for a reason, namely, it was held by heretics to push heretical teaching. In which case, you point becomes mute.
As for the other Emperors being Arian, that is sadly the case. I do agree with you there. Constantius II and Constantine II betrayed their father's memory by supporting the very heretic that was condemned, Arius of Alexandria. Don't forget how these same Arian emperors also persecuted the Catholic/Orthodox church. As for Theodosius coming in with the sword, it was more in account of the attacks from invading sources like the Sassanids from Persia more so than the heretical impositions forced on the Church by the eastern emperors.

You are completely wrong. Constantine the Great was not a Pope at all. Constantine the Great lived from the years 274 through 337. During those times the Popes were Dyonisius (268-278), Eutiquianus (278-283), Cayus (283-295), Marcelinus (295-304), Then there was a brief interegnum because of Diocletian's persecution from 304-308. Then after Diocletian retired in 305, the Church was able to get popes again. Marcellus (308-309), Eusebius (309-310), Miltiades (310-314), Silvester (314-335), Marcus (335-336) and Juluis (336-351). As you see, Constantine the Great was never pope. Furthermore, these are popes 28-35. The sad thing is that although you are hearing these discussion of Church History, you are stubborn in your false interpretation of history. The Trinity is a completely biblical doctrine. The Trinity is not a worship of three different gods. It is one and only one God in three different beings. The fact that you do not get this proves that you do not have the Spirit yet because you are merely interpreting with human logic and not divine teaching. Pay closer attention. IN reality, the Church has always preached a trinity. The trinity was not denied until Paul of Samosata. That is when YOUR doctrine came into play.

@@michelhaineault6654 Totally false. Neither the Council of Nicea nor any other council ever introduces new doctrine. What the councils do, is they give a heretic to expound his or her ideas to be analyzed by the church LED BY SCRIPTURE, APOSTOLIC SUCESSION AND ESPECIALLY THE HOLY SPIRIT. Once the doctrine has been analyzed, if the doctrine is found lacking according to those sources, then it is anathemized. If the Council of Nicea accepted the Triune God, that is because it is Scritureally based. You will find it in Genesis 1:26 and John 1:1 as well as in Matthe2 28:19.
