    Dude, I am really enjoying your posts because I can tell the difference between those who did the thing for awhile and those who haven’t, ie a two quart canteen front and center. IMO there are two tyoes of gear/kit video’s. The first is the “I am here to look cool” cause they have zero water on their range kit video and then the “this is serious business” video because they have water available on their kit. I’ve grown tired of the “it’s to heavy” crowd. Of course it’s heavy. It was heavy when I was doing it 30 years ago. It’s always been heavy. Who said it’s not supposed to be heavy? I appreciate you showing me the new gear!

      Where I live, there is water available all over (streams, river, ponds). Water in this circumstance can mean a filter straw if weight is an issue. That said, I prefer a camelback/water bladder in a small pack. My water bladder can easily be moved into a bigger ruck so no problem there.

    Suggestion: A slightly higher camera angle looking down more at the gear would have helped. Lots of what you were pointing to on the table was out of frame and could not be seen when flat on the table, unless you were holding it up. (Harder with only 1 fully-functioning arm I'm sure!)

    Thanks......it's good to see properly grounded info in this world of ours. I have a Haley rig myself and an old black hawk one that holds 8 mags. They are both great with a pack but I need to build out something with a little more capability in case God forbid we ever need it here in the Us. It would be nice to have something besides ultralight with a ruck or plates and a light pack as choices. I really need to bridge that gap in kit.

Why isn't MARSOC training with the MEU every workup? Should MEUs have FAST platoons attached?

      Why doesn't Recon have a Regimental Commander, or Force Recon a Battalion Commander? Should there just be Force Recon Battalions instead of companies? Should the Urban Recon Course and Combat Hunter be part of BRC to give new Recon Marines a wider skillset? What are your thoughts on the Recon Sniper Course and how Recon Marines are not supposed to cover down on Sniper support for all active and reserve Infantry Battalions? Why doesn't Force Recon have a Pre-Ranger Course anymore? How does RSLC compare to BRC? Should there be a Recon Unit Leader's Course the way there is/ was a Scout/ Sniper Unit Leader's Course? Should Designated Marskman's Course be part of the Recon pipeline to increase precision marksmanship in Reconnaissance units without using as much time and money as the Recon Sniper Course? Are all Recon Marines advanced swim and scout/swimmer qualified out of BRC? Why isn't there a Small Craft Company in every Marine Division? Why isn't Recon allowed to train at MARSOC's Raider Training Center? Could it help Recon recruiting to reestablish a third Thursday of the month Recon Screener at every Recon Battalion now instead of only at 1st Force like they did in the 90's so that people don't feel like they only had two chances to go Recon (with their Recruiter or at SOI)? I don't know your situation but my advice for civilian use is go small chest rig, personally I went with a G-code build with three rifle mags dangler and a radio pouch, mag pouch on the belt (5 mags). I am of the opinion if we are put in the unfortunate opinion where we civilians have to fight against an enemy like N. Korea then we don't want to be doing things like a standard military for large resource groups its fine but not when your solo or very small teams. We would want to be hitting small soft targets where in most situations a single 30 round mag is enough to get the job done before we vanish large round count conflicts can take good men out of the future fight because they no longer have ammo due to previous ammo waste.

      @Blakewater0326  6 місяців тому +1

      Nalgene bottles are easier to clean, and ensure they're clean thanks to the clear plastic. Also because of the transparent material you can sanitize water via the sun in emergency use. They also take up a smaller profile on equipment compared to a USGI 1qt canteen.
      However, if you don't like nalgene then you can continue using the USGI canteens. Easy enough.

    • @Blakewater0326
      @Blakewater0326  7 місяців тому +2

      They're missing the point. A chest rig is your fighting load. Overall equipment is a layered system of whats worn on the body (clothing, what's in your pockets, fanny pack), fighting load (chest rig, plate carrier, belt kit, whatever), assault load (24-48 hour pack, back panel, bandolier, etectera), and your sustainment load. The more you know, the less you need to carry out. So survival can be had with what you carry on the body and in the fighting load, without turning your chest rig into a laundry list of "just in case" items.

    If i missed or misunderstood aomething, apologies in advance. Thanks.

    • @Blakewater0326
      @Blakewater0326  11 місяців тому +2

      Yes, the water drank comes from the pack. Bladder with hose for drinking on the move, and long halts are conducted periodically with one intention of allowing a canteen to be passed around the team (everyone drinks until the canteen is gone, so that a partial canteen isn't sloshing around in anyone's gear).
      The water on the fighting load, in this case, is saved for exigent circumstances. I only ever needed it once in 17 years with Force Recon, because we were denied resupply.

      I run various mags. The rig is full of old GI mags because of how many I acquired during my career, so they find their way to places. I prefer them in many cases because they can fit into mag holders with the follower up, which is how I re-index empty mags into my equipment.

      yep. didn't like it: lots of kit to take off and manage when changing out layers; items either sat wrong with the pack if on the back of the belt, interfered with mobility if on the front of the belt, or just made me too wide if on the sides of the belt as well as interfering with pocket access.
      It can be done, to be certain. However, it is quite feasible and objectively more efficient to have your fighting load on one platform. Even with the plate carrier I will drop the gun belt if I don't need it and just run plates.

    with a belt kit you wear a short back ruck like a berghaus or an assault pack. also you shouldn't be putting anything other than layers or a sleep system in your buttpack, IE things that require you to take your gear off to be used. all of your equipment, ammo, admin, etc. should be on the sides of your belt kit. on my kit the only stuff in my buttpack is gridfleece, change of clothes, goretex, and a woobie. everything else i can access myself on the sides.

The woodland flc I'm assuming is the earliest variant as it's buckles only. Just tooling at the range I like it works as a split chest rig. I found the mesh on the flc to be far worse for hot emviorments, and provided less camoflauge. Equipment carried is based on the mission requirements. I suppose playing ninja requires military style equipment, but I cannot think of a single reason why a civilian needs a full plate carrier. The mini (Micro) rigs should be more than sufficient, with the exception of the lower dangler pouch to carry first aid items (or other equipment). You won't need more than 2 or 3 mags in the civilian environment (unless you live in California). Even in worse case civilian SHTF situation, you shouldn't be far from your support (home, vehicle, etc.). Don't waste your money on all these toys. You won't be doing a patrol. You won't be doing a recce. Be real, train real, and equip appropriately.

      For one, I think it promotes a false idea that infantry guys should strip down to load bearing gear to conduct a reconnaissance task. Recon isn't about equipment, and the form of recon an infantryman undergoes is not the same as a trained and dedicated recon troop, who makes the decision to wear a rig over a plate carrier very deliberately.
      I also think its silly to strap a chest rig to your plate carrier when it is far simpler and smarter to mount pouches and placards to the chest rig directly. Honestly, I think I did a mediocre job with this video and it will require revisiting to cover more of these finer aspects.

    You see, I have to disagree with you regarding one thing. That is, the size of the chest rig. In my limited experience the size of the chest rig matters a lot when carrying a large rucksack on your back. Specifically, the shoulder straps of the rucksack will be an interference with the side pouches on a large chest rig. But if you have a mini (larger than a micro) chest rig, one that can carry 4 magazines, a dangler, attached water pouch, and a general utilities pouch, for example, then it will sit better and not be an interference with the rucksack shoulder straps. This is why I have two chest rigs; one mini and one large.
