  • Is the Chase Sapphire Preferred worth the $95 Annual Fee? In this video I will go over the pros and cons of the popular Sapphire Preferred and provide an overall review of the card.
    The CSP is a solid starting travel travel credit card with decent benefits at an affordable annual fee. The travel benefits, travel protections, and travel partners all add to the appeal of this card.
    However it becomes even more valuable when you pair it with a Chase cash back card like the Chase Freedom Unlimited or Chase Freedom Flex.

    The CSP is a card that I value extremely highly, basically solely due to the fact that it allows me to transfer out to travel partners. I may end up replacing it with the CIP or CSR down the line, but this card will always be one of my most recommended. Side note: I love that you coined the term portal-pal 🤣

      Oh ya i know how much you love your Chase travel partners 👏🏼 once my 4 years are up for the Sapphire Rule I want to test out the CSR as well

    I love your take on this card - a refresher of the benefits is always nice! I had forgotten about the extra 10% point match for the previous year spend!
    As soon as an elevated public offer, or I’m under 5/24 in 2025, I’ll be going for this card or the CSR!
    Love your content.

    Good perspective on balancing a few Business flights vs. multiple Economy flights.

    Mileage will definitely vary…..I look at 90k Chase UR points for a one way business class flight vs. 90k points for three nights at a Park Hyatt or 5 nights at a Hyatt Regency and it’s not even a decision. 😂 Great review as always!

    I think it’s worth it for sure! The $50 hotel credit plus access to great transfer partners is worth it for sure!

      TBH still have to use that hotel credit, but it definitely can be useful to cut down that annual fee

    As someone with both the C1 duo and Chase Trifecta… (perhaps unpopular opinion) I still find myself using my CFU more than my VX as my catch-all.
    Having that floor value of 1CPP for cash-back (although I never plan to redeem that way) gives me a piece of mind in case ish gets real. Also the 25% boost is clutch as well, in case I’m in a emergency situation and don’t have the mental capacity to put in the work at that time. Although I plan on traveling internationally more (hence C1 duo), majority of my travel still falls within domestic; which makes the CSP easier for me. Not having a REAL grocery category sucks, but adding my CIC into the mix helps with the additional 5% categories.

    • @ChaseYokoyama

      Agreed! Having the reliable 1CPP for cashback and 1.25 for travel is a nice feeling to have. The C1 duo & Chase Trifecta definitely have their own pros and cons

    Unless you transfer points from other chase cards, I would personally go with venture x over CSP if I had to choose only one

    • @ChaseYokoyama
      @ChaseYokoyama  9 місяців тому

      I agree, ESPECIALLY for a 1 card setup the Venture X kills the CSP

  • @DougYuen

    I got it because I needed a card that allowed me to transfer Chase points, and they had the 80k SUB at the time. I still like it, but I'm thinking of product changing it to a 2nd Freedom Flex after the 1st year. There are overlapping benefits between it and cards like the Venture X, and I probably won't use that $50 hotel credit every year, so I see it as paying $95/year just to transfer points. It's still worth it, but annoying.
    I'm planning to get the Ink Preferred, now that the welcome offer spend is more reasonable. I'll probably keep that as my one Chase transfer card. Hitting $8k in business spend in 3 months still isn't easy. But I think the Ink Preferred is a better keeper card than the Sapphire Preferred. I don't think I'll get the effective annual fee all the way to zero, but it would be a lot less than $95.

    • @ChaseYokoyama
      @ChaseYokoyama  9 місяців тому +1

      Yup right now the CSP is a card that I use to transfer my points or to use because it's a Visa. I definitely do not use the hotel credit either. At least you got 80k on the SUB for the CSP 👏🏼 I hope you are able to secure that 100k bonus on the Biz Preferred next!

      @@ChaseYokoyama Thanks! The CIP was not part of my original plan, but it's too good to pass up, and I'm at 4/24. I think the normal spending requirement was $15k or something like that, which is too high for me to hit. I'm just hoping the offer doesn't expire before I'm ready to apply!

    The CSP is a keeper card for me!
    Eventhough my AmEx Gold has become my new dining card, i still keep my CSP around for when amex isn’t accepted or when i rent cars for the primary CDW. Thats a must for me!

    • @ChaseYokoyama
      @ChaseYokoyama  9 місяців тому

      yuh Doc that primary CDW is so clutch on an affordable card like the CSP. 👏🏼 It's also my go to card when amex isn't accepted , especially internationally

    Question… If a person already has a Bilt Rewards Card, knowing they share similar travel partners on the most part, would it still make sense for a person to still apply for a Chase Preferred Card???

    • @callmeNeno
      @callmeNeno 9 місяців тому +1

    • @torrencesorrell5441
      @torrencesorrell5441 9 місяців тому +2

      Agreed ^^ especially if the SUB is right. Always good to diversify and double-dip pts into the same travel partners. Can’t go wrong!

    • @DougYuen
      @DougYuen 9 місяців тому +2

      It depends on what issuer(s) you're putting your spending on. If you're getting a lot of points from better multipliers on Chase (i.e. the CFF on quarterly categories and the CFU for non-category spend), then you need a way to transfer the points out.
      If you're putting most of your spending on Bilt, and hardly getting any Chase points, it probably won't be worth paying the $95/year. Or maybe just wait to get the CSP when you have a lot of points to transfer, get the SUB, transfer your points out, and downgrade it after the 1st year. If you're able to wait 48 months before you're eligible for the SUB again, then you can reapply for the CSP and repeat the cycle. But 48 months is a long time to wait and gather points.

    • @IkeVoorhies

      @@callmeNeno I’m not that big in chasing credit cards for a SUB… I’m looking at it more on long term use…

    • @IkeVoorhies
      @IkeVoorhies 9 місяців тому

      @@torrencesorrell5441 I agree somewhat on diversifying but in a way, it’s a bit counterproductive if u carry the same card that offers same multipliers and similar benefits like Primary Car Rental Insurance… I personally already have a broad Amex and Capital One set ups… I’m at a point, moving conservatively as far as opening more reward cards…
