  • If you're looking for some old school Detroit metal that wraps some of the nastiest muscle your money can buy in one of the best looking packages to ever prowl American streets, this badass Mopar is your kinda style!
According to the story included with this rare Dodge's sale it began life, like so many A12s, as a dedicated drag racer. The car would literally roll out of the shop on Friday, make 10 second passes up and down the strip on Saturday, and roll back into the shop on Sunday. Fast forward several owners and many years later when, in the summer of 1985, a dedicated Mopar fan picked it up for a grand total of $1500. As it sat, the car displayed what was thought to be 23,000 original miles, was still decked in its original blue and white race armor, and was a mess of broken body panels and barely running mechanical pieces. Thankfully the skilled owner set into a multi-year restoration that would begin with stripping the car's body down to its original Bright Green Metallic finish, transition to salvaging and rebuilding its many original parts, and end with a fresh combination of correct green basecoat, black Super Bee markings and mirror-like clearcoat.
Pull this Dodge's famous stainless hood pins and you'll find a correct 440 cubic inch V8 which looks ALMOST as good as it runs. Professionally rebuilt, fully detailed and ready for the strip, this accurately spec'd monster block will take its driver from 'confident' to 'scared stiff' in mere seconds! At the top of the 390 horsepower mill, a trio of correct Holley 2-barrel carburetors is housed within a fully-functional induction system that inhales today just as well as it did 43 years ago. At the base of those carburetors, a correct Edelbrock aluminum intake rides between correct heads and traditional stamped steel valve covers. At the front of those valve covers, a reliable points distributor sends spark through reproduction Chrysler Electronic Suppression wires. And at the sides of that distributor, restored original exhaust manifolds funnel spent gases into a great sounding true dual exhaust system.
Behind that thumpin' Chrysler RB block, a stout A833 4-speed twists an original Dana 60 posi-traction rear end around big, 11 second gears. Below that proven drivetrain, a heavy duty front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension has been completely rebuilt to include a correct A12 K-member, correct 'uneven' leaf springs and correct 11 inch brakes. Above that proven drivetrain, over-restored floors have been layered in brilliant green urethane and dressed with everything from a fresh stainless fuel tank to correct undercoating and fresh stainless brake and fuel lines. Exhaust is handled by free-flowing 2.5 inch pipes which jettison cooked dinosaurs via an H-style crossover, traditional turbo mufflers and spotless stainless tips. And power flows to the pavement through a fresh set of 15 inch steel wheels which spin authentic looking F70-15 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sports around chrome lug nuts and gloss black paint.
Open this Coronet's rock solid doors and sit down inside a cockpit where legendary Mopar power melds seamlessly with a no frills, no-nonsense driving environment. It's nicknamed the 'taxi cab interior', and it's been restored just as the factory intended: to provide the perfect combination of striper car weight and big car durability. At the center of the floors, rebuilt bench seats wrap firm padding and new frames in correct reproduction covers. At the bottom of those seats, like-new carpet anchors "Super Bee" stitched floor mats at the sides of a correct Hurst goose neck shifter. In front of those seats, the car's expertly restored dash hangs a full set of rebuilt Rallye gauges beside a correct Solid State AM radio that's complete with Chrysler's super cool thumb-wheel knobs. And in front of the driver, a correct three-spoke steering wheel spins a silver trimmed horn button around a rebuilt steering column.
If you're in the market for some solid Mopar muscle that'll be a constant source of pride and provide years of fun, this top notch Dodge is the car for you! Call, click or visit RKMotorsCharlot... for more information on this awesome Super Bee!

FWIW, I bought and restored this car many years ago. Shortly after purchase of this particular car, the original owner pulled the 440 and put in a 426. The car was a serious race effort (not stock) and ran with the hemi for several years and did run in the tens according to the car's mechanic at the time. After restoration the car ran 12.80s with slicks.

I don't know what BS you're putting out there about this car running a 10 second quarter mile when in fact the best time was 13.88 seconds at 106.13 mph.

I remember going with Mel to buy that car. And the work that followed building it. It was very nice when he finished it, it has had some more "improvement" since.
