He was standing by my Grand Company desk and every day I would stop by there I saw him. Just standing in the corner, looking at the wall. Never moving

I remember there was a time restriction when the game would log you out after a certain period of time for a patch or something, and the people who do AFKs did everything at their disposal, so they won't get logged out.
Ah yes the 10 minute rule they did for endwalker was the latest one

That 10 minute logout is enforced every major expansion, usually up to the .1 patch.
30 minute at least during endwalker release, I had just enough time to do my groceries and get back without being yeeted back into the multiple hour queue.
I still don't know why people AFK for days at a time in FF14...

The WoL: dancing trying to swoon some manbear Hroth or Roe for that strong-arm ERP they heard so much about in shout chat
To this day there is still a person dead in front of the atheryte in Ul’dah. He appeared like two or three months ago and he is still dead there. Don’t know how he got there or how he has died and remained dead all this time but people have started to play music and other things around the body. It’s become a landmark at this point

in Aether Jenova we have Mint Dew, the eternally dancing catgirl who still manages to get raid gear. Currently she dances at the aetheryte in the latest hub.
If this is who I think it is they have multiple accounts, and just multi box to leave that one there.
Aether Siren, the eternally dead at Uldah main Aetheryte entrance Caster Takasu(?) too
Also in Jenova, we have Cooked Toast who hangs out at the Adder's Nest. They're almost always passed out on the floor by the entrance. Though one time they disappeared for a couple days, and ngl, I was a little worried about them.

In halicarnassus we have the valentines who dance at the limsa aetheryte. They recently moved to a different spot and I about lost my shit
If turning on the game is the first thing you do in the day, and turning off the game is the last it might just be easier to leave it on permanently.
What about power usage and the wear and tear on your computer?
The topic always confounds me. The need to run a game in the background just to afk in it in the hopes that someone messages you.
It's the same as going to public square or park just to read. Some people like to be around others.

Less Clothes = More Sun
On my server we have a dancing guy in a moggle outfit with their sometimes copy dancing across from them. A Lalafell bench. Then the bara Roegadyn and Hrothgar bench on the other side.
We have a big Roe with an afro in the Golden Saucer, near the mini cactpots. The only times he's not there are when the auto kick for idles during expansions are in effect. It's been actual real life years.
apparently that moogle is an asshole from what I've heard.
Is no one going to say anything about Mr. Blackrock the sexy dancing pope in coeurl? He's in ul'dah. I have never seen him not dance in his spot.

And there is a Dancing Thancred that afks at the most recent hub every expansion. He and Link are the icons of Brynhildr.
Once upon a time I was apart of Oliver nexus’ free company in balmung. He stands in the same spot every time he afk’s, apparently he’s been doing it since the beta. Travel to balmung and you can see him in limsa I guarantee it.

On Primal Excalibur we have an AFKing default WoL in the Gold Saucer named John Finalfantasyxiv. He just...stands there...menacingly...

Don't forget Deadbear Lakshmi at the first retainer bell in Limsa.

I know of a legendary Limsa AFKer on my server who's been standing under the aetheryte pavilion tree since at least I started playing. For context, I first noticed them several months before Endwalker released.
I try not to make eye contact, for my own safety of course.

On Famfrit, there are not one but TWO massive groups of AFKers. The Jades, a group of identical Hyur women dancing in a circle in perfect syncronisation, and the Weaboo Police, a group of identical Roegadyn men who just stand there menacingly.
There's also technically the Weaboo FBI, but I consider them to just be a subgroup of the Weaboo Police.
I have been seeing the same cat girl dancing infront of the aetheryte since Stormblood...Till now

on my server, there was a snowman (Nekoo K) who's always on the bench night after night for years now
My afk spot of choice is locked on to the Limsa main aetheryte, already tabbed to the world list menu. Reason: people are so impatient that there's basically no other way to get to off-world S ranks than to just sit there waiting at one of the three places in the entire game where world transfers are possible, one click away from the actual transfer--and even then, your odds are 50/50 at best. (Yeah yeah, early pullers, don't blame everyone, blah blah blah, but you can only blame them so often when even established pull times only give you about 3 minutes at best to get through potentially huge queues, nobody shows even the slightest sympathy to folks who miss out due to trolls/impatience, and mob mentality absolutely kicks in once anyone pulls and the whole group goes ham.)
I do my best to ignore the...activity going on around me in the meantime.
There's this one Lala I know that literally I've never seen him move he's always standing under the tree in Limsa.
Granted I'm normally in Gridania but yeah. It's odd. Like he doesn't even queue dungeons or anything.
Day 31:
The wax sculpture switcheroo was a complete success! No PC is aware I have already departed, observing from the comfort of my hotel room.
Additional note: One player was intrigued enough to observe for a month straight! Must test with other sculptures for future study.

On Crystal Brynhildr, there is this Thancred in Old Sharlayan by the aetheryte who is just always dancing. They never move from their spot, they look just like Thancred, clothes too and they just..dance while AFK. I swear they were still there even after maintenance.

Back when I was still in Adamantoise before me and my friends packed up and moved to Dynamis, every day when I would go to the Maelstrom headquarters to unload my extra junk gear there would be a dude step dancing on the stone rail between the drowned wench and the hq, weeks later I went back to get better queue times and the dude was still there, he may even still be step dancing to this day

I saw this guy once in limsa standing in front of the aether, I logged out sleep, woke up go to work and when I got home logged in. The same guy is right there like wtf is he playing on a server or something
If I have to AFK for chores or the phone or something, I try to find a scenic spot and turn on music that fits my current mood.’
In my limsa there is just a body, someone has died and no one has attempted to move the body and it's been there for what feels like months

I have not seen Deadbear Lakshmi (Primal, Excalibur, Limsa Aetheryte Plaza, next to the retainer summoning bell) move in EIGHT! YEARS!
I've seen her move during major patch days. Also saw her in Bozja when it was current.
I only go to Limsa when I need to get company seal from all the old armor and weapons I get.

Every server seems to have someone who is always AFK in Limsa dancing eternally, playing dead in a rabbit suit, or just standing there with their HW DRK Relic weapon.
